View Full Version : Help me buy poker chips

One of the problems with the recent poker boom is that I had to give back my dad's set of clay poker chips. I had borrowed them a few years ago and since my dad never played, I got to babysit them for a while.

Well... Poker's hot right now, so guess what? No, my dad doesn't want them back, MY MOM DOES. She has started a poker game with "the girls" and asked me to return the chips.

sigh...

Oh well... Time for me to buy my own, I guess. Any suggestions? I figure I need at least 500 and I don't want to spend much more than $100. I will probably end up buying them off of ebay, but need some advice if you guys can give it.

These links are from a different site, but like I said, I'll buy them off of ebay to say some $$.

First of all, have you played with any of the composite chips like these? They aren't real clay, but they're obviously cheaper.

I can get these for around $60 - $70 on ebay for 500 with a case.

Or does anyone have any suggestions of something higher quality that run around $100 for 500 chips?

High quality is going to be difficult to find for $100, especially if you're looking for Clay chips. I just had a set bought for my by my girlfriend for $150 - 500 Suited chips, two decks of cards and a dealer button in a nice aluminum case. Here's a good site with tons of info on chips, among other things (thanks to analBumCover, I think, for pointing this site out the other day) -

Sorry 'bout the lack of hxxp before.

The ones you're talking about are composite, I believe. Real clay will run you upwards of $.50 per chip.

wyw.pokerchips.com is my favorite source.

Mine were $0.75, but that was mother-in-law buying them at a local retail store. I don't see you getting real clay chips for $0.20 anywhere

Yea' - my number was a total guess.

I think the misconception is when you see on eBay "300/500 Clay Poker Chips w/ Case", is that they are clay composite, NOT clay chips.

clay chips are mad pricey. I would get the composite unless you feel you absolutely must have clay.

That's the way I'm leaning. I figure the composite ones will be nice enough.

Here are my chips. Bought 'em at casinocom.com for about $.75/chip including edgewriting. 10 grams and have a nice "clink" sound to them.

The edgewriting says "LEAGUE OF DARK MADNESS" which is the name of the fantasy football league that I'm in.

[edit] I've already invested $750 (1000 chips) in them broken down to three separate purchases. They've already paid for themselves in poker winnings, and craps/blackjack dealing. :D

some companies have spyware that look for gambling links in the same way that they look for porn links. Could you please add hxxp to the first post.

thanks

Damn, you find people that let you deal blackjack and craps? Where can I get friends like yours?

Composites are still very good. You'll still be the envy of all your friends.:)

Oh, I definitely agree. They are perfect for home games.

If I really wanted clap chips, I'd probably just go get them at a casino - that way I could always cash them in when/if needed. Clay are just so pricey.

I was curious what kind of chips you used. Those are sweet. I think they are out of my price range, though. Scratch that, I know they're out of my price range.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to win enough off my friends to pay for the clay ones yet, but after winning the last two hold 'em tournaments we've had, I'm getting pretty close!

Damn, you find people that let you deal blackjack and craps? Where can I get friends like yours? Before the rise in popularity of hold'em poker tournaments, we (four of my friends and I) would host "casino nights" among our friends consisting of a 10 foot craps layout on a snooker table and a blackjack layout. We're pretty proficient in dealing craps, and our parties were such a blast, that we'd host a party once every 2-3 months.

Those days are gone for now, since our interest is running hold'em tourneys (in which I have a 133% ROI) So yeah. With this and all the casino nights, my chips have definitely paid for themselves. If not monetarily, then in fun factor alone.

Yeah, I meant to say that mine weren't clay, I just forgot to :)

Also, sorry about the live link at first...that's changed now.

Not sure if you found what you are looking for yet- but me and my friends bought 500 clay, 11.5 gram poker chips for $55 on ebay and 30 shipping. So far they are great- i found the same exact set selling for over $150 on other websites. 500 chips, 2 decks of plastic cards, a dealer button and dice. So far they are great!

I just got 1000 chips, 2 decks of cards and 10 plastic trays from ebay for $40.00. They are "super diamond" clay composite 9 gram chips. The quality leaves a lot to be desired but they are good for home games. There is a burr on the outside edge of some of the chips which comes off pretty easily with a knife or razor. You can buy these at http://www.5stardeal.com/deals/10Browse.asp?Category=Casino+Supplies%3APoker+Chips for 8 cents.

this is the exact set me and some friends got off of ebay- the price was only 85 including shipping, and there were a lot of sets being sold from the same person. If you are looking to get those, it is probably the best place to look.
