Well, apparently they've confirmed that he's alive and safe. What I heard on the radio, though, is that the military is suspicious of his story and is investigating. If the whole thing is found to be a hoax - that he faked his kidnapping and possible execution by terrorists - then he could be charged with desertion during a war, which is punishable by... execution.

It sure would suck to be a terrorist, kidnap someone and find out he is Makmud Alid Klaqik or something. I figured if he was kidnapped, once he said his name, they would figure it isn't going to have the effect of a Bob Smith being beheaded.
