Hey Guys,
How good is this game I have downloaded the demo. But I haven't decided how much time I want to put into this game. Is it any good? How realistic is it and is it any fun?I already got a full-time job I am not looking for that kind of game?I wasn't getting a feeling of immersion.I was alittle turned off by lack of NO sound not even crowd cheer or some sound effects?Impressions please.

I personally think its a cool game - but then it could be said that I might be slightly biased ;)

Regarding the sound effects, we simply didn't have time to implement them - however there is a third-party commentary file that fans have created and I've heard rumours that someones working upon sound for the game also (the support is (in theory) still present from CM3 - we just didn't have time to source the sounds and tune their triggering in the game, which is possible via. the commentary config file).

IMO, if there's going to be sound implimented then I want some play-by-play to coincide with it, maybe in another window. It should detail such things as pitch frequency, balance, and maybe pitch frequency per balance. And I don't want to just see hertz, but beats per minute (and probably revolutions per minute as well as this would be double as necessary).

I think that in today's age that it would be fundamentally flawed if only a male voice was used. I mean what about that announce for the BoSox? I think the people behind these various voices should have agents az well.

I thinkt suond is vry impt. to this game.

P.S. - Could I get a MIDI?

Editing the commentary config will allow a user to integrate sound into the game in exactly the manner that SI would have ourselves if we'd had time (we're hoping to include sound for the next version of the game).

There are various aspects such as timing, loops etc. already catered for within the commentary config file for just this reason.

Hope this helps,

Marc

Um, I was just being sarcastic (as I could really care less about sound in text-based sims), but that sounds pretty damn cool. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif

Heh :D

Sound is one of those things if done 'right' then it does add a lot of atmosphere to the match day - unfortunately for the first release of NHL EHM we didn't have time to do it 'right' and so rather than put out something half-arsed left it out entirely, as I mentioned however the hooks for enabling sounds however were left in so users could add their own if they wanted to ...

One of the things I've found in the demo, is that simming a game takes a lot longer than it takes when playing CM. This has kinda turned me off to the game because I like a quick sim of a game and I like to deal with the rosters and trades/draft etc. Is there anyway that I could make a sim go faster, or not enter the screen with the box score. I play the game with the fastest game speed and just commentary BTW.

If you only want to handle the GM side of things, take a look in the General Manager options. It's under the menu with your name and in there you can tick the setting "Coach games yourself" to NO and this means your coach will handle the games and you'll only get the results without actually watching through the game as it unfolds.

Riz, is there any way that we could watch the game unfold WITHOUT coaching? I know that option is not available right now, but surely it couldn't be TOO hard to implement since it is there for the CPU games.

Some rhyme or reason to the tactics...

I have found that the lack of sound doesn't detract from the playability of the game. I would suggest going ahead and purchasing the game.

The game is very good (IMO) and very fun. The speed of the game is annoying at times (time inbetween days). Still, this hasn't kept me from immersing myself in my first career. I have had zero freezes or error messages. I am able to play each league in enhanced mode.

The realism can vary. Some people have issues with certain aspects of the AI. I am treating the game as a first generation game that has some quirks. Like FOF, you have to have some 'house rules' if you want the most realism.

But it, you will like it.
