I went to the friggin Troy fair, friggin demolition derby, and friggin petting zoo.

That catch by Edmonds might be better than McGee's years ago.

With Griffey, Kearns, Larkin, and Casey all currently hurt or just getting healthy it doesn't look good. They are not that good anyway, though it would be nice to see them at least compete for the playoffs.

Here's my story of last night's game (the one with the Edmonds catch) from another Cardinals fan:

First, just for fun, I have the MLB Extra Innings package on digital cable. I haven't paid for it. I actually paid for NHL Center Ice waaaay back in October, and the cable company never turned the channels off, even after they switched from hockey to baseball. I've been getting MLB Extra Innings for free all season long (knock on wood).

I was lying in bed, and I turned the game on in the 8th inning. The Reds were up 5-2, and Renteria was batting to lead off the 8th. Since he's on my fantasy team, I decided to see what he'd do. He struck out, and I figured that the game was pretty much over, so I changed the channel. A little while later, I got out of bed and sat at my computer. I checked out my fantasy team page, and I noticed that the Cardinals had a 7-5 lead in the 9th inning. I was stunned. I told my wife that I only watched one at-bat in the 8th inning, and I had given up on the game, but I was going to turn it back on because I have Isringhausen on my fantasy team, and I wanted to see him get the save. As soon as I turned the TV on, I see Isringhausen winding up to pitch to Larue. As soon as Larue connected with the pitch, I said to my wife, "Well, so much for the two-run lead." Of course, Edmonds goes up and gets the ball. As if we were on a seesaw, as soon as Edmonds landed, I jumped out of my chair and ran around the living room screaming, "HE CAUGHT IT! HE CAUGHT IT! HE CAUGHT IT!" I watched the rest of the game, which was rather uneventful, and then I used TiVo to replay Edmonds' catch about 15 more times, hoping my wife would at least acknowledge the reason that I had turned into a lunatic moments before. I think she knows that some Cardinals player caught the ball (which would explain my joy), but I don't think she ever noticed what a great catch it was.

I should mention that she was playing EverQuest at the time. EQ must be breaking up my marriage.

The catch was incredible, one of the best of the year, Edmonds had to haul ass to get back there and catch it.

Wily Mo is a beast! He has been pinch hitting for 3 years and I think is only 21, he should have been playing all those years at AAA Louisville but has always been out of minor league years, so he's had to slowly contribute and this year with all the injuries gets a lot more PT. I say we deal Casey (while he's hot) for a pitcher, move Dunn to 1B and play Wily Mo every day.

It's Wily one L only. :)

Pena was a Yankee prospect the Reds got in the Henson deal. He was touted as a young Sosa but was signed to a major league deal that said he would have to be in the majors in 2003 or be waived. He was the Reds 25th player most of last year and was bumped up to 4th outfielder this season.

He's making the most of his chances this year.


I would play Willy Mo everyday as well. Cincy could get a decent P for Casey I would think.

Anyhow, here come the Cardinals!!!!

The Reds have tried to trade Casey, but can't. His contract is bad for a 1B who can't hit HR and he's quickly becoming a fan favorite here. I know they need to figure some way to get pitching on this team and clear the OF jam they have

Was in the Nati this weekend for a wedding and got my first chance to see a game at the Great American Ballpark. Willy Mo Pena's homerun landed 2 rows in front of us. I have to say 2 things...

1. That catch live was one of the greatest sports plays I have witnessed in person. (Topping Eric Davis against us two times in person about 10 years ago)

2. Everyone always talks about how great Saint Louis's fans are and I always think that everywhere is like Busch. Well, the people of Cincinnati are great (most of my family is from there) but the ovations that Larkin, Freel, and Casey get are about the equivalent of the cheers for a successful sacrifice bunt by the Cardinal pitcher at Busch. I was at the Griffey 500th homerun game and I think he may have gotten a louder ovation in Saint Louis than he would have gotten in Cincinnati. Man, Saint Louis athletes have it good!

True. I should have qualified with Saint Louis baseball Cardinals, but I think since they have started winning the Rams have a somewhat electric atmosphere. Maybe not a Green Bay or Cleveland but I don't know about the worst. (Actually I was running through a list of stadiums I have been to in my head and only one was worse than the dome. But the Bengals are my favorite team and I think I ragged too much on Cincinnati earlier in the thread so I won't mention where it was at. :D )
