So, I just got a Gamecube w/ controller and memory card for free. (Long Story)

No games, however. I don't have any intention of buying a buttload of console games, but I wouldn't mind something good and fun to mess with from time to time (I own no other 'modern' consoles).

So, I hereby request ideas for a good *solo* game to purchase. There a good playable sports game on the 'cube? Or any other type of game that's actually worth bothering with? (Sports is high on the list due to replayability. If I buy 2 games ever for this system I'll be amazed)

Edit: Mainly inquiring here 'cause I'm under the impression the Gamecube isn't as graphically advanced as its competitors, and thusly suspect some of the more popular titles could suck ass on it.

Tony Hawk 3 and 4 are both great solo games...
If ya want something to do when friends come over super smash brothers is the best game ever in my opninion

I'm pretty sure in terms of graphics and graphic power, the Cube is second behind XBox, and ahead of PS2. I's also recommend Smash Bros., if you like that kind of fighting game...

Matroid Prime is a very good game. Wind Waker is good, but only if you like the cell-shaded look. Eternal Darkness is a very good horror game with some cool effects... Viewtiful Joe is a game that I've had more fun with than almost any other game in the last could of years. Super Mario Sunshine is actually quite hard... well, I find it hard. Those are the games that I own, have played, and can recommend.

Prime is the best single-player game out for the 'Cube, hands down. Zelda: the Wind Waker was not bad, just way too easy...I don't think I came close to dying one time the entire game.

Other than those...I can't really help you, sadly. I don't have much time for console gaming these days.

I got this game for my wife, and I ended up playing it some too. It is on the easy side, but it quite fun. Eternal Darkness was also a fun single player game. Everything else we have for that system are for when friends or younger relatives are over.

Can't believe I forgot Metroid Prime - the best game for the Gamecube and the only game I've beaten for that system :)

I really liked Eternal Darkness, Pikmin, and the Star Wars Rogue Squadron games. Pikmin 2 is due out in Sept.

Metroid Prime, and Mario Sunshine were pretty good as well but I didn't like them as much.

Metroid Prime is a must-own. Metroid Prime 2 looks amazing as well (it'll be out later this year). I very much enjoyed Wind Waker, although as somebody else said, it's not a terribly difficult game. Tales of Symphonia is excellent, Viewtiful Joe owns you (and CC was selling it for $5 this week or last, so you may be able to snag a copy somewhere for $20 or less).

Paper Mario 2 is probably my 2nd most-anticipated game of the year (behind Halo 2) after having played it at E3, and Viewtiful Joe 2 isn't far behind.

Mario Kart: Double Dash is also supposed to be very, very good.

Ikaruga and Skies of Arcadia: Legends, while basically Dreamcast ports, definitely deserve a look. Ikaruga was only released on DC in Japan, so the GC version is its North American debut, and SoA never sold very well on the DC over here, which is a shame, because it's a fantastic game.

Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat is awesome, and I can't wait for its release this fall. Donkey Konga is a rhythm game that looks interesting, as well. Resident Evil 4 is generating tons of drool from RE fanboys, and StarFox finally looks to be in decent shape, too.

Early-to-mid '05, the new 'realistic' Zelda will hit shelves, and I fully expect that to be a fantastic game.

That's just for starters. Get crackin', boy. ;)

Gamecube:
Super Monkey Ball
Super Smash Brothers Melee
Sonic Mega Collection
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
Sonic Heroes

Those are the games I own. I'm not a big fan of a lot of Nintendo's single-player games. Smash Brothers is one of the best games ever...but not if you're just playing alone. Pikmin is a lot of fun. Eternal Darkness is neat. Both of those are cheap if you can find them. G'luck :)

Mario Kart: Double Dash wins hands down as a fun solo game - Sonic Heroes is also a good laugh, although unless you've some kids at home you'll probably find yourself stuck on the later levels (nothing like having your 5 year old to hand for the difficult parts ;) ).

Will I be ostracized for recommending Animal Crossing?

If not..then I recommend it.

Well, I bought a gamecube as a party system, but I have to say that for single player, I am completely hooked on the game Gladius. It is a Gladiator-style RPG...however, you can get it for Gamecube, PS2, or Xbox, so it isn't Gamecube specific. Good game though.

Also, as a Star Wars fan, I have played a lot of Rogue Squadron II and III.

Skies of Arcadia was very fun but had that super-annoying "cant go 2 feet without a random battle" syndrome that became even more annoying because there is about a 15 second intro to every battle that cant be skipped.

I feel I should let it be known that as (the official?) Gamecube Fanboy at FOFC, the reason I haven't posted is that I've spent the last hour going over Gamecube games with CW via AIM ;)

What is this "Gamecube" you speak of. Who makes it?

Everyone knows the only systems worth a damn are the PS2 or XBox. :D

(sadly.. there are more then a few peopl who feel this way. How hath the mighty fallen)

I only have myself playing it.. I played it for a few months, but it got boring once I got my final house upgrade. :D

I thought they fixxed that for the GC version?

That actually almost made me buy it for the GC as well. I really loved that game on the DC, but man that was frustrating.

If you never played the first Metal Gear Solid you should do yourself a favor and pick up MGS: Twin Snakes. :)

My wife asked for that game for her last birthday. She still loves it, but I just can't see the appeal in it myself.

They fixed that. First off, they've reduced the number of random battles you see anyway. So that's cool.

Second thing they did was add two items to the game, I think a white feather and a black feather. White feather, when equipped, basically eliminates random battles, so you can go wherever without dealing with that. The black feather, on the other hand, bombards you with random battles.

FWIW.

SII hope you mentioned the underrated 'Beyond Good and Evil' as one of those games!

Actually, yes it was one of the ones mentioned but I went over about 25 or 30 games.

Any new thought on Gamecube winners? Metroid Prime seems like a must have, as well as Zelda Wind Waker
