Does anyone have any information on this film beyond the scant few paragraphs on the web site?

http://www.skycaptain.com

I love the genre (crimson sky type stuff) but I'm not sure what to make of this.

We play Crimson Skies here at our house, and that is the first thing we thought of when we saw the first trailer a few months ago for this movie. Definite period piece, with lots of stylistic action, with a few Sci Fi tweaks thrown in.

I find myself really wanting to see this movie, even if it is bad.. Sometimes a movie has a look that catches your eye, and this one really does.

It's actors against blue screen with everything else being entirely CGI, I know that much. Set in the 50's or something I think.

From IMDB:

In 1930's Manhattan, reporter Polly Perkins (Gwyneth Paltrow) has noted the disappearances of many of the world's most famous scientists. After the city falls under attack of giant flying robots, she decides to team up with her old flame/aviation officer Joseph "Sky Captain" Sullivan (Jude Law) and fly to Nepal in search of Dr. Totenkopf, whose plan is to destroy the world.

The only thing that might make me want to watch this movie is Angelina in a skintight leather suit...

I heard the movie, well, sucks. It was moved from a mid-Summer release so it would have less competition. Again, that's not necessarily fact - just what I read somewhere.

Speaking of Ms. Jolie, did she ever look better than she did in the movie "Hackers"? I own that movie just to look at her in that leather suit, short haircut and natural dick-sucking lips. To me, she's never looked better in any other movie.

Ugh. Unwatchable, no matter what.

Without a doubt, the stupidest computer hacker movie ever made. Sandra Bullock almost beat it out with "The Net," but nothing can ever unseat "Hackers" as the all time champion of computer film suckage.

I am really looking forward to seeing this flick. Jude Law has been good in most things I have seen him in. It looks like an attempt to go back to serials again. It could be fun.

Saw a preview online that showed the planes going underwater and battling a giant robot...

I read the same thing. I think it was a review on aintitcoolnews.com. The reviewer ripped it apart pretty viciously. Sad the movie made no sense at all. It's a shame because I like the feel and look of it based on the trailers. Oh well...

It's probably going to have a cult following like Starship Troopers and Hackers.

Going to give this a bump.

Also, I am very curious as to how much of a role Angelina can have in this movie as I thought I read somewhere that she spent a total of 3 days on the set?

Saw it last night, wasn't wowed. Lots of special effects, not much in the way of plot or acting. And yes, Angelina's role seemed quite a bit hyped to me.

Put Jolie in a movie and it has a 75% chance to suck. Now we throw in Paltrow and now we're closer to 95%. If naked wrestling were unvolved then I might pay to see that part........

I saw this movie last night....

I enjoyed it, worth the $4.50 that I paid to see it.

The action is great, the acting?..well....let me say Paltrow is a beautiful lady in the movie.

I'd recommend it. 3 stars out of 5.

Where in the world can you see "New" movie on a Saturady night for $4.50?

There is an older style movie theatre in Oklahoma City that charges $4.00 for new movies.

I think the title of this movie killed any chance of success in the theatres. I remember seeing a preview a while back and I was still thinking how dumb the name was after the preview was over. It makes you think the movie is for 6-12 year olds.

Agreed, horrible title.

I've actually heard it's pretty good...it doesn't take itself seriously, and is a pretty fun cornball movie.

I'm hoping to see it tonight, I love the concept..loved playing Crimson Skies on the PC...matter of fact, think I'll fire it up again now.

I think Angelina Jolie being in this movie killed any chance of this being any good... see also Gwenyth Paltrow, Jude Law and Giovanni Ribisi.

Wow, you are painting a lot of good movies bad if you are saying all of these actors only make bad movies.

Friends of mine made this film. It is their first major release.

Yes, most of it was shot against a blue screen.

Just got back from watching it, and enjoyed it.

Not quite as Crimson Skies-ish as I had expected but good nonetheless.

Some good laughs, and a great job incorporating the '40's pulp feel to it. The movie was corny, but it meant to be corny..and pulled it off well imo.

It's nothing amazing, but a good fun adventure flick.

Saw this yesterday. Fun flick, nothing else intentioned (as is obvious from watching it). Pretty neat throwback to the ole Flash Gordon style movies.

I would recommend it to anyone juts looking for a popcorn flick, but if you can't go to a theater without becoming an uber-critic in the middle of it (or if you're one of those that expects supreme quality from every phase of every movie), don't bother--I'm certain it will bug the hell out of you. ;)

Yup, almost all of it. Two sets and the main actors were the only things in the movie that were real.
