I mentioned to SWMBO that our charcoal grill is on its last legs and that we'll need to purchase a new one soon. She says that she'd been wondering about getting a combo charcoal/gas grill. To be honest, I didn't know that such a thing even existed. She says that "somewhere in the back of her mind" she thinks she has seen them. She acknowledges that charcoal gives better flavor, but would love to have gas for convenience when she wants to throw some veggies out there as part of a meal or something. Do any of you know anything about these suckers?

About all I know about them is that they exist.

Looks like they run between $200 & $400

Actually, that site gives me another idea: buying the little "Patio Caddie" gas grill for quick stuff, and getting another good-sized charcoal grill for indirect/smoking/serious grilling. From reading about how the "charcoal/gas" combinations work, I'm a bit leery of them.

I thought about the Charcoal/Gas combo last month, but just went ahead and bought a Gas Grill. Who was I kidding? Given the option, my lazy ass is hitting the gas ignition button... :o

EDIT: I think that's an "embarassment" smiley....I can't tell.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing. To me it seems like your simply adding charcoal to your gas grill. Can't be the same as going straight charcoal.
