Does anyone ever watch this? Neuqua pointed it out to me last summer I believe, and I catch it every once in a while and it's usually pretty hilarious. Respeck.

Yeah I'm a big fan of that geezer!

Frankly I'm amazed that he was able to nab people a second time. I mean didn't any of the people from the first season (I'm talking about you James Baker) watch the show? Does no power figure watch HBO? I guess I just expected more out of Sam Donaldson. I too catch the show occasionally and while it is starting to wear a bit thin it is quite enjoyable.

He interviews Pat Buchanan this Sunday, that should be worth watching.

I love that show, I think when he plays "Borat" it is hilarious too. The Daily Show had him on in, but not in character (which I hear is pretty rare). He said on the show that he once asked a senior FBI offical, "What kind of penalties do you thinks suicide bomba's should get?"

I've seen the show one time, and one line really just slayed me. The rest of the time, it was pretty disappointing, though. This line...just came out of left field. So unexpected, and as ridiculous as humanly possible. Awesome.

Ali G is the man. Got into it about 2 years ago I guess... and yeah I hear he's been far more popular in the UK for quite some time.

There were some absolutley classic interviews from last year (Newt Gingrich really comesd to mind).

It's definitely worth a watch, Ksyrup. His personas are funny. and the fact that people take him seriously, or let him get away with outrageous crap because they think he really can't speak English, etc, is great!

I think it speaks more to the fact that I've been wasting my money on HBO for 3 years. I don't have time to watch movies, and the only thing I've seen on HBO over the past couple of years, aside from an occasional movie (once every 4-6 months), is Curb Your Enthusiasm. I should probably cancel until the new season starts.

Wow, you haven't watched any of their shows? I never watch HBO movies, it's all about the shows for me. Sopranos, The Wire, Carnivale, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, Ali G, etc...if you're not watching those you might be wasting your money! :)

None of them interest me in the slightest, although Ali G sounds like it might, I just haven't seen it.

I'm with Ksyrup, as far as HBO is concerned. The only shows I really liked from HBO in the past few years were Dennis Miller Live, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Da Ali G Show. I guess I like comedy.

I hadn't realized that HBO had brought Ali G back for a second season. I watched the one with Sam Donaldson last night. I was delighted to see that Sam Donaldson has a sense of humor. I don't watch much TV news at all, so maybe this wasn't anything new, but he never looked like a funny guy to me.

As for Ali G, I thought he was as good as ever (though I've never seen any of his UK stuff). The Borat wine-tasting segment was a riot. For a change, even the gay character (is his name Bruno?) was funny to me. The only other time I found that character funny was when he was interviewing one of the Crimson Tide running backs (I think he was the star running back, but I'm afraid that I'm not as big on college football individuals as I used to be). I hope they replay Ali G on the HBO Comedy channel a lot, because I'm getting back into this show again.

Well, I don't really watch much TV to begin with, outside of sports. I used to have 5-7 series I would follow no matter what, but over the past year, I've started missing the Simpsons, L&O, etc., things I would never have missed before. I'd rather throw on a baseball or hockey game from the DirecTV packages I get than watch TV series these days. Aside from stuff that's on because my wife watches it (American Idol, etc.), I'll catch Insomniac every now and then or a Columbo rerun. Otherwise, it's sports, or I let the wife watch what she wants while I surf the net for music.

Actually, I had to laugh when I saw this line:
"ali g got old in 1999."

Got translated to:
"me got old in 1999."

I'm not a TV guy at all myself either, my point was that HBO's series are pretty much in a class of their own in television. If it was possible I would gladly take a cable plan of ESPN (original, 2, classic, news), HBO, comedy central, and the obvious network stations (for sports only).

Corey - Gotta include the History Channel. That is one of the greatest channels ever (and NOT just because I'm a History major :))

I am totally sold on Da Ali G show. Especially after I saw him about a week ago on Conan O'Brien as Borat. It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on his show.

They may be great shows, but when they are shows about stuff I don't want to watch, the quality is pretty much irrelevant. I saw 2 episodes of Sopranos a few years ago, and thought they were well done, but had absolutely no reason to want to watch the show ever again. I hate mafia stories. And westerns. I also don't want to watch shows about prison life, a funeral home, side show freaks, and the drug version of Homicide: Life in the Streets (which, surprise surprise, I never watched).

At least they canned Robert Wuhl's show. Maybe that's worth the monthly fee I'm throwing away, in and of itself.

Strangely, I did watch the first two seasons of Arli$$, and I enjoyed them a little bit, but then I suddenly couldn't stand it anymore. I guess I was just slow.

Again, I'm agreeing with Ksyrup. I'm not interested in the subjects of HBO's programs either. I also don't have the attention span to watch an hour-long show, honestly. I can get into sports, but to watch an hour of drama... egh. It's just not my thing.

I finally saw an episode of Ali G last night. It wasn't great, but it was pretty funny. Does he do the same things over and over again? Seems like it would run out of "funny juice" after a while.

I've never seen it but I don't get how they'd get guests once the show becomes a hit without the guest knowing it's a goof.

From the little I saw last night, some of the guests catch on pretty quick. At the end, he was doing a rap with the US Olympics Alumni President. After 2 questions, I think he got the clue and, to his credit, played along.

6 Feet Under is a very good show, though I don't really like the story line about hte grandmother. She is just uninteresting.

So far Enterouge (sp?) has been pretty good through 3 shows.

Heck, we got G's UK shows here in Philippines... isn't he like sooooo turn of the century-ish?

And Ali-G IS on DVD... well... here in the Philippines...

I Loved The Ali-G Movie, specially the NEON COLOR CAMO-WEARING THUGS! . :)

It's funny how they get guests... they send out a letter inviting the target to a "politically sensitive, informative talk show hosted by ****" insert any foreign-sounding intelligent name.

fwiw, I just saw that the Ali G is releasing the first season on DVD on August 17th. Going to pick that up along with Chappelle's first season.

I have an Ali G dvd. It's called "Ali G, Aiii". It's a compilation of highlights from his shows. It was lent to me by a friend. I had always dismissed him as being too silly to be funny until I got this. But watching this I've shed tears of laughter time and again watching it.

I would think if this is available in Australia it would be in the US.

Here's a list of the scenes on it:

Heaven
Dangerous Drugs ("Which one do ya recommend?" Hilarious!)
FBI
Studio 54
Paul Daniels
Borat's Guide to Etiquette
Kids of Courage
Gail Porter
Cannes Porn Festival
Mohammed al Fayed
Borat's Guide to Hunting
Animal Rights
Space
"I believe I can fly"
Borat'sGuide to English Gentlemen
Discussion Medley
Increase Da Peace
Dangerous "Weapons"
Guns
Religion
Barat's Guide to Henley
Goodbye
Jarvis Cocker
Ali's Final Thought
Out-takes

Either way, I always look forward to catchin it. Im gonna have to check out that DVD when it comes out. Hopefully my man Neuqua be remindin me when it comes out.
