View Full Version : Sorry, I Just Have to Rant Again
Coffee Warlord

I kinda was planning on not posting any more My Job Sucks threads, but, well, yeah.
So...4:30 today.
"Rob, this calendar thing needs to go in for this project that you're not on."
"I can't do it in 20 minutes, but it won't take that long."
"How about this weekend?"
...right there, I should have fled.
"No. Can't. Got to do the yard, and have plans for the evening."
Commence shitstorm. I apparently do not work enough hours, and am not a team player. Let us ignore the fact that I am their only programmer, and do everyone else's shit along with my own. Let us ignore the fact that I'm their ONLY employee.
When one guy got fired, I got his 3 year long project in a language I did not know. I got it done.
When the other guy quit, I was the only programmer left. Twice as much work for me, no raise. I still got shit done.
But no. Not enough.
More lovely excerpts from the conversation.
Them: "I have a 6 month backlog of checks, but you're getting paid."
Me: "So...I'm supposed to be grateful that I'm getting paid to work?"
Them: "You bitch about everything, and it's getting old."
Me: "That's because this shit SUCKS."
Them: "You're not doing me any favors by being here, you know."
Me: "..."
I'm so fucking pissed off right now it ain't even funny. Again, I apologize for Yet Another CW Rant, but dammit, I needed to vent. Booze run commences soon.

move to Fairfax County, Virginia. Unemployment is something along the lines of 1.2%, and there are companies constantly looking for programmers.

Coffee Warlord, I'm sick of you whining! Suck it up, man! ;)
That's pretty shitty that they don't appreciate what you've done for them. Send out some feelers for some new employment. I personally wouldn't put up with bullshit like that.

Please don't take this as trolling - but why the heck haven't you found a different job yet? You are constantly getting crapped on - at some point you're going to snap and go postal. How much more can one man take?

Though selfishly I don't want you to find a new job. I enjoy your job sucks threads because they make me feel better about my job. :)

And don't forget the part about setting them on fire.
That's the best part.

Coffee Warlord's threads could make me angry if I thought about them hard enough. Jobs can suck. Some worse than others. You nut it up like a man or you stay in the same place and cry about it. Some people are unlucky enough to not even HAVE jobs.
Bleh. I'm shutting up now.

At this point, I think I'll take "What She Said", cause I got basically nothing else.

I can attest to this..
My brother is a .NET developer and has had four jobs in four years in four years and almost doubles his salary in the process...

They've seen your yard. So have I. It's not that big. :)

Why they treated you like shit at first was because they're assholes. Why they continue to treat you like shit is because you let them. You keep not calling their bluff - you're their only programmer and you get everything done. Are they really going to fire you if you refuse to work way above and beyond your requirements? And if they do fire you, I think they'd be doing you a favor.
Believe in youself - you sound like a pretty good programmer. As such, you will be able to find another job. You might have to move, but compared to staying in your current location at you current shitty job, or moving and having a different job that is highly likely to be far less shitty, wouldn't you prefer the latter?

I wouldn't sweat it, I would work my shift and go home.
I would start looking for a new job though.
I'm in the same situation with my job, it's very frustrating.
I'm bidding out, and now I have a potential interview for a sales rep job in Hawaii...

CW:
I hope you don't feel piled on in this thread. I think everyone's sentiment is meant to encourage you to leave, not to put you down for not having left yet.

I was just going to post something to this effect.
Yes, CW can definitely get a new position and has the skills to likely get a pretty good one. But, it's very difficult looking for a job when you have one, as you are essentially working two jobs. Add to that the long hours and sometimes weekends he's working with this job from hell and it's more like two and a half jobs.
So anyway CW, I do add to the sentiment that I'd like to see you at a job where you could be happy and wish you luck in finding it soon. The day you tell your boss you're leaving will give you satisfaction as you may have never experienced. :)

My wife a programmer who is happy where she is currently working (IMO one of the best companies in south Florida), but she has still had a few headhunters contact her about other positions, so they are out there if you look CW.
Just be glad you don't work in the printing industry -- now that can REALLY suck ;)

Good luck with you, I just lost my job. It was just a temp job, but they told the temp agency that "they no longer require my services." I just wish they would have told me when I left the job, the temp agency called me at like 5:20. Anyway, I was told they just didnt have enough work to keep me busy, and while I think that is part of the reason, I don't think it is the whole reason.
I've been cautious since Tuesday that I may not be retained. I was told I did 1 thing incorrectly on Tuesday (I hit a wrong number for indexing), and then some lady who normally doesn't even pay attention comes over on Wednesday and lectures me about I how I did things wrong, even though no one told me about anything else. Then the next to days people had to watch over me like I'm a retarded chimp to make sure I did things right. Then the didn't let me do work that I was doing before, and Friday I basically sat there all day, even though I know they had work I could do. I'm not saying they were lying about why I wasn't retained, but...
Oh well, they said they were happy to offer good references, so I guess I can't be too bitter, and it was only supposed to last through August at best. I've interviewed for two different positions at law firms, so hopefully one of those works out.

the thread I am looking forward to the most here is the one where you've found a new job and tell your current dickhead employer to go screw.
I forgot one other thing, CW.
You live in Galesburg. They know you have nothing better to do.

Heh!
Well, in response to everyone. I'm trying to find a new job. I'm really trying to find a new job. I've been dumping out resumes trying to find a new job. I however, will not quit until I have a job offer on the table. Period. 8 months of unemployment during the dot-bomb era taught me that lesson.
............
AND
One of the 2 bosses showed up to my bar last night, where me and my friend were proceeding to get hammered. Couldn't freakin' believe it. The conversation went like this, and this was about all there was to it.
"So, have you been sitting here bitching about how much your job sucks?"
"Only for the first hour. After that, I was drunk enough to not care."
Whoo.
