so at Hellfest in Elizabeth, NJ .. at the Rexplex .. I had my first riot experience..

This band from Philly .. The Bad Luck 13 Riot Extravaganze was playing and it got crazy. In their last show ever, they vowed to get arrested .. Now I was only there for a few songs .. but heres what I saw ..

Smoke bombs into the crowd, plastic bottles being thrown .. the tame stuff .. Next thing you know, bleachers overturned, a flourescent light being thrown in the middle of a crowd of people. A pigs head on the flood. BLOOD EVERYWHERE.

It was chaos.

They played in a gymnasium (One of four stages), so it wasn't a huge area, but hundereds of people were there. I can't believe how insane it was.

Anyways .. random nonsense ... But a story I felt was worth sharing.

I was observing because the rumors were rampant all weekend about the possibilities of the night ..

I made sure to stand back. I was bipartisan ... just a bit.

Yes. They had a pigs head .. And one of the guys was drinking its blood. It was .. vivid. (Amusing though, Hellfest had a lot of PETA people)

From what people have told me it was pretty tame. There old shows in North Philly around 98-99 where notoriously violent. Lots of fights, someone pouring a gasoline can out all over a club. Im not sure if gasoline was really in it. They used to lock the doors so no one can leave. Basically a bunch of dudes who watched a little too much japanese wrestling and ECW.

Anyway the dude who is the promoter for Hellfest, Keith. Is a total asshole and an idiot. Basically he told them it was ok for them to play as long as they didnt use fire. He should have know better but hey the guys a ripoff. He has screwed bands out of money before. Would have loved to see the look on that scumbags face as Bad Luck got the show shutdown.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of bad things about Keith. Not so much about the screwing bands of money though, can you elaborate on that?

Also, you know of FSU?

The 1st syracuse fest(later know as hell fest). He didnt pay a few bands thier guarntee. One of the years I remember he decided not to pay any of the bands, because he couldnt pay all of them. I guess he slowly payed them back over the years. I think most bands deal with it because there is alot of people and then can sell more merch than what they would at a regular show. Plus, some how I was on his mailing list, and he is one of those assholes who has to TYPE EVERYTHING IN CAPS.

FSU, I assume you are talking about the philly one, and not the boston one. Alot of people talk shit about them, but if you get to know them they are good people. People act like they just go around beating people up at shows, but most of the time its because someone trys to start a fight with them. Case in point, last month at a show in wilkes-barre and one of FSU's little brother is 13, and he is dancing in the pit. Some kid on the edge kicks him in the back. So then one of the guys in fsu goes up to him and asks him why hes got to kick a little kid in the back when he never did anything when someone else bigger was in front of him. So then the guy ends up not even apoligizing, so he gets a glass pitcher broken over his head. He could have easily avoided that but he tried to be a tough guy. But then of course after the show you see a bunch of idiots posting on message boards how they beat up some kid for no reason.

I forget most people north of here can't buy a pig's head in their local grocery store.......that's pretty funny though......
