View Full Version : It's been a long, strange journey...

...but in 12 hours, I'll be done with my college career. Tomorrow at 10:30 AM, I take a final in History 113A, the Roman Republic. I'm pretty much set for the final already, plus I have a B+ going into the final; taking the test is a mere formality. It's a really strange feeling to know that I'm done, though, and to know that I have earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the field of History. It's not that I ever though I wouldn't make it...I just never really thought of what it would be like to be finished.
I have the added benefit of not starting the 'real world' for 10 more months, as well. I've held a job for my entire college career, and it pays me quite well. I am going to stick around the college town for the next year, just working. The way leases run around here, they start in late June, and end in Mid June. So if I had wanted to leave right away, I would have had to hassle with sub-leasing, etc, and I just said forget it, and got on a full year's lease with some friends. The dosage of 'real world' that I'm going to get, covering my own insurance for the first time, is going to be interesting, but not having a $700 monthly tuition payment is going to be awesome. I've already known what it's like to work 40+ hours a week...at one point I was a full-time student, and pulled 60+ hours a week between two jobs simultaneously (needless to say, my GPA is a little lower than it should be :)).
Not really much content to this post...so I'll return you to your scheduled forum surfing. Just thought I'd try to express my feelings at the end of a "distinguished" 5+ year college career.

Well, in honor of your finishing school, I'm reminded of something a very wise man once said, "The glorious sunset of my heart was fading. Soon, the super karate monkey death car would park in my space. But Jimmy has fancy plans. And pants to match."
Congratulations. :)

Maybe by the time I'm 40 I'll have managed to get some sort of degree... :(

Maybe by the time I'm 40 I'll have some sort of an idea as far as what I will get a degree in... :(

Yeah, I'm just waiting for the horrible "gladiator" reference. Maybe this post will spare us.

Congrats, Vince. I'll hopefully have a similar post to this in about five months. Something about not being able to find a Computer Science job, too, no doubt.

Thanks for all the congratulations guys :) Yesterday was a good time, and sleeping for 12 hours was definitely necessary afterwards. For the future, I've got two major options:
1) Grad School, for a teaching credential and most likely a Masters in Education
2) Starting work in the baseball industry by getting a job with a minor league ballclub.
Either way, I'm probably not going to start until next Spring at the earliest, so I've got most of this next year to figure things out.

Congrats Vince on your accomplishment! Best of luck to you over the coming year.I am here, 19 days late, but here.
Congrats Vince.
I'll try to catch up with you in... [reaching out fingers] ... eight months.
I guess you have all the time now to make a plan and make your above average IHOF team win 8+ games next season. 4 games against the European division should help. :)
