I notice most new phrases annoy me these days. Maybe I'm just hopelessly old already. I'll start the list and people can add ones they don't like.

1. I'd hit it.

So and so was "tapped" to be the next intelligence "czar." Both drive me nuts.

Pretty much most modern IT speak gives me tired head.

"Let's talk about this offline." Well, we aren't friggin' online, we're in a room, dumbass.

No, I was saying it because *I* hate the Cowboys. Let's add another one to the list:

"America's Team."

I mean, who the fuck made them "America's Team?" What's all-American about the Cowpies? Besides the drunk and disorderly behavior?

I could see the Patriots being "America's Team." They've got a patriotic name and colors.

Or maybe the Redskins... they're named after the natives, and based in the nation's capitol.

Or maybe the Packers... because they're the only publicly owned small-market team in the NFL.

But the Cowboys? Dear God, can we stop with that shit already?

I can't stand when someone says "peeps" unless they are referring to the marshmallowy candy in which case it's fine.

But when used in the context of "Man there are a lot of peeps in here," that grates on me.

I can't stand when someone is telling me a story, and they say either "to make a long story short" or "blah blah blah" in their story. If I'm taking the time to listen to your story, at least give me the full story.

I also can't stand it when fans of a certain band find it necessary to speak of the band by using the lead singers first name. ie. Dave Matthews Band and fans saying "Dave", Jack Johnson and fans saying "Jack", Mariah Carey as "Mariah", or Michael Bolton as "No-Talent Ass Clown". Do you know him personally?! If you do I guess its ok, but since 99.99% of fans don't, show the guy alittle respect (totally kidding on the Bolton, because that guy truly is a no-talent ass clown).

Does anything say "I have no coherent argument, and yet strongly wish to express that I'm a smug prick" better than that one symbol?

Word! Look at all my peeps that responded to this thread and I'll start by giving a shout-out to F-No. It's obvious that we all think outside the box. I am totally jazzed about the tight responses. It's all good!!!!

Don't go there.

I also can't stand anything that has been or could be said by Snoop Dogg. "Kodos-dog dropped by fo' shizzle with the bling-bling." What the hell is that supposed to mean? Don't these people know there are any number of real languages they could speak? Doesn't have to be English -- doesn't even need to be proper grammar. Just actually words I can work with is all I'm seeking.

Rick Reilly is a hack, but the greatest line he ever coined was that they weren't America's team (at the time of the cocaine issues)- they were South America's team..

These two quotes back-to-back reminded of an era many years ago, when Monte Moore was the play-by-play man for the MLB team in Oakland, and always referred to them as the "Swingin' A's."

People that cannot complete a thought without using the word "basically." Basically, it gets freaking annoying when they basically cannnot state a simple thought without, basically, using it.

Right now Im trying to break free of using the work "Jank" or "Jenk" as a replacement for "thing."

I echo the sentiment about the eyeroll smiley...

But I really hate the retarded sports nickname trend of "first letter of first name, first syllable of last name." Please, let's bring REAL nicknames back! Kevin Youkilis -- now there's a kid with a nickname, and it ain't K-Youk.

Something really destroyed the meaning of the word "Hero" to me. Any sentence with the word hero in it makes me think of an underachieving football team who keep losing against 'guaranteed wins'.

And I bet Cthomer5000 will come in and write he's annoyed by my use of the above given emoticon.

The one that makes me angry every time I hear it, is when somebody declares themself to be humble. Seems like a lot of athletes like to pull that one out now. Eg: Last year, I came in thinking I was the bomb (another great one), but this year, I'm going to come in humble and stay humble and try to have a great year.

Is it even actually possible to be humble, when you're the one saying you are?
