You are allowed to do whatever you want on this forum, assuming Skydog likes you - see... George W Bush as an example. Complete spammer but is allowed to continue.
You aren't allowed to do anything and will be punished for doing very little in comparison to others - see... me.
Skydog obviously has issues with me, prob concerning IHOF, prob concerning that I used to run the site and took off, prob concerning how I've called him out on not doing anything on the forums (or on the main site for that matter).
His massive ego precludes him from seeing others opinions. He's done nothing with the front page but add a couple of news posts, 90% of the content on there I made 4 years ago. He would much rather spend his time sucking up to developers or trying to make himself seem more important (testing or other games, pimping his music) than do anything on this site (including actually modding when appropriate instead of only with personal vendettas).
I don't care who runs this site or mods, I don't harbor any ill will towards anyone in regards to that. I do have a problem with Skydog not being man enough to ever confront me with any personal issue he has with me. I know people have tried to talk to him and he ignores them. Instead, he acts like a spineless pussy and ghosts me.
During my last "penalty box" he ghosted me without saying anything. Of course that was over nothing and certainly nothing worse than 1/2 the crap that goes on every day here.
You can put me in the box, you can ban my IP, you can ghost me again. I can't do anything about it, but everyone here WILL know what kind of person you are. Attempting to get anywhere through PM with you obviously hasn't worked, maybe this will.

If Skydog were a man and would actually tell me what was going on this wouldn't have been nescessary.
If there was real mods on this board, I'd already be talking to Skydog on PM (supposedly) and this thread would be gone. But of course that's not the case.

Im seriously guessing this will be a "people LOSE posts" thread in the morning when it gets deleted.
so be it. I've tried resolving the personal beefs with him on PMs here, through PMs on IHOF, and other people have tried talking to him (I haven't asked them to) but he wants to take the cowards way out and not have to explain himself or even tell me the issues.
The fact that there is no mod on this board the majority of the day has drastically lead to the downhill decline of the forum.
If my disappearing a couple of years ago led to any part of that I apologize for it, it certainly wasn't my intention. There was personal crap that came up and RL takes precedence of virtual life. I'm not going to go into details as it's noones business and I'm not looking for sympathy, shit happens.
No mods have led to the out of control nature of certain threads (religion, politics, etc). People are allows to spam pointless messages and threads (not a major issue, I let thos slide) AND post inflammatory messages which make the "certain threads" worse than they need to be. Combine that with the fact that if I say "boo" I get put in the penalty box while people can use slurs or purposely make threads worse with inflammatory posts and nothing is done in the thread, much less to the poster.
I'm not out to make a huge issue in every thread (tho I'm sure Skydog would wish I would) but he refuses to be a man and deal with things and instead acts like a coward. I'm certainly going to let people know that. And, this is the only other option I can think of to get through to him. PMs here, PMs on IHOF, and other people talking to him (NOT at my asking) haven't worked.

Didn't get anywhere talking to Skydog through PM so when things get hectic in my job search I wasn't too disappointed to take a little break from posting.

but remeber, auto-ban is different from the ghost hack. The ghost hack was talked about in the HM thread (I think).
I WAS un-banned after a week in that I could post and everything seemed normal, except he had put me on the ghost hack without saying anything or even discussing issues in the 1st place so sure I was posting, but they weren't showing up. Check the HT forum for evidence tho I was suspicious before that.

That's because the shady stuff he does he doesn't want known. Take the pic complilation in OOTP 6 stupid thing as another example. He didn't do anything wrong, of course not! It should all just go away, same thing here. Don't make it know, don't let me know, keep it hush hush to preserve his "image". That's all he cares about, not about the forum or the site.
And as I said to someone in PM, I have no desire to have anything to do with the site. I feel I have to clarify before people make accusations or think that.

The Un-Ghosted Chubby
08-09-2004, 12:44 AM
nfg - I don't think corrupt is the right word. If he doesn't like you, you can do no right. He'll put you in penalty box for nothing while letting the masses run amok. You can spam pointless crap, incite flame wars, etc as long as you aren't on his list of people he really doesn't like. My last penalty box was because I said something about the modding being non-existent around here. He won't say that's why, but it is. All I get is stupid "This is a lifetime achievement award banning" PMs from him. What does that solve? Nothing, he obviously still harbors ill-will towards me and refuses to even tell me what the problem(s) are.
I DO think he's extremely ego-tistical and it's a fact he has done basically nothing in site content in his couple of years at the helm. It's also a fact that no appropriate modding is done on these forums, the out of control political/religious threads being prome examples.

I don't know what to say on the matter. While Chubby can be arrogant/annoying sometimes, I've never personally had a problem with him. While I can see where a banning would come in, Ghosting seems to me to be quite uncalled for. That being said, there could be something I totally missed somewhere...
Either way, I think that this isn't something that will be resolved...it seems that only the involved parties know the whole story. I think I'm going to end up spectating anyways, though.

Except your missing the "act like an ass but Skydog likes you" and it's ok. If he doesn't like you, you can do something 1/100th as bad and get put in the bin.

Hopefully, with your posts, he will take this to PM or AIM with you. I know you've meant alot to FOFC and this community... but Ben usually has reasons for the way he does things here.

This reminds me of a quote from happy gilmore..
"I'm gonna win it for chubbs"
And as far as unions go.. i'm in the Uaw.. its a good thing.. and its a bad thing.. bad part is it protects the worthless people who don't want to work.. good thing is it gets us great benefits/pay :)
Wegmans isn't unionized, not sure if the new place is. I won't be union since I'm management anyways but it's something I'll find out tomorrow when I get the joy of doing all my HR paperwork.

Reading this i'll throw my two cents in.
i been reading the board now for over two years, i dont post all too often. I like to read peoples opinions. And the Good Lord knows theres a whole bunch of interesting and different ones on here.
That being said, i believe Chubby has some interesting points. I've never met anybody from this board, so i can ONLY GO BY WHAT I READ. At times yes, SkyDog does seem a bit lets say "All-mighty" and seems to let others slip by with stuff while people that are on the crap list well, get punished or banned.
I think the whole "ghosting" was BS. Thats certainly not the way to do things professionally. To me it seems like a "HA! I'll show him" thing.
I know SkyDog is very respected around here, hell i tip my hat to him as well.
THese are just my opinons and observations.
Feel free to blast them to Hell..
And remember, PEOPLE PLEASE. Its just an internet Message board.
Have a nice night.
P.S. I believe this thread should be entirely left open, i personally obviously dont care about losing posts, but i think untill all the facts come out, the members should be free to know everything and discuss.
Now I know this forum is "deemed" private. But it accepts "members". therefore they are entitled to know things and not be kept in the dark on these issues.

I would have had no problem with it if he was consistent. When he bans others for similar actions then fine, but that would involve 1/2 the board. That's my beef, because of other reasons (which I can guess at but am not sure of) the bar is way lower for me than others.
EDIT to add: I read and occaisionally post at some strict boards. It's no problem if it's regulated evenly for all. IMO, it's not here.

yeah all our people are unionized. Cept the store manager and the HR person. Other than that we all are. I work in the deli. While I see a need for unions I just dont think they are needed in this day and age. Specially when I work 3 times as hard as someone and have more expeirience in the food buisness yet they get 3 times the salary and also more hours. On top of that you cant fire for poor performance.

It's a fine line. Like you said, it can be good and it can be bad. At Wegmans we were always paid well so there was never a need to unionize. Now, when RBW passes and the company gets sold to Kroger it may be a different story. But at least I won't have to deal with it :D

I lurk an awful lot more on these boards then I post but I have to say that this is one of the more interesting and informative boards that I regularly visit. And one of the reasons for this is because it so loosely moderated. People get a chance to really say what they think and feel even if this means it just degenerates into a free-for-all which is no more than name calling.
Is Skydog the embodiment of evil? Well I have never really had any run-ins with him except for what he posts and allows others to post. If he allows one person to say stuff which he doesn't allow another to say then is he really being any different to the rest of us? And since (as far as I understand) the board is his then he can be as fun or as snotty as he wants to be. If you want to play on his field then you have to play by his rules. If not, then it looks as though you will have to go play somewhere else.
Moderation can be a form of control which can all too quickly become excessive and although these forums do feel as though they are part of an exclusive club (dola?) there is nothing wrong about that. People have always seemed to willing (sometimes almost too willing) to engage in talk about anything. And for someone on the other side of the Atlantic having a chance to see how (I almost hesitate to use the word) 'normal' Americans think about the current world situation, politics, economics and trouts is what the internet is all about. Increased moderation when it stops the overall amount on posting (although I take your point on the harm it can have on individuals) would IMHO be more harmful than grievances which single people may feel.

Yup, and I had dropped things. Not that anyone would have known since no one could see my posts. Has Skydog dropped his petty grudges for whatever reason against me? Obviously not, instead of being a man and actually telling what his beef is he is a coward and ghosts me.

Never said he was the embodiment of evil, I am pointing him out as the hypocrite he is. Like I said in my intial post, he can do whatever, I don't have any control over it. But if he's going to act like this then I'll be sure to make it known.

To further discuss this.. i'd really like to see a way for us to see who is banned and for how long.. the reason is usually obvious (trolling/posting bad links/pictures etc) this is our community.. not skydog's.. not ryans's's's..
I think having a ban list would be alot like some city's having johntv (showing mugshots of men arrested for trying to pick up a prostitute)

Hmmmm...when one combines "SkyDog-is-out-to-get-me" paranoia and mischaracterization, it can be a dangerous thing.
Just the facts...
1. The last PM I received from Chubby was on July 11th at 1:03pm, a few minutes after his latest suspension. I responded on July 11th at 1:45pm. I have received no further correspondence from him since then that I am aware of. It is possible, but *highly* unlikely, that I missed an e-mail from him. Further, I just checked my PM boxes at FOFC and at IHOF. I see exactly two sets of PM's from Chubby, both coinciding with suspensions at FOFC. There is only one PM from him that I never responded to. After my "lifetime achievement" PM that he mentioned, he responded back with anger/frustration, and it didn't merit a response. I figured he just needed to blow off some steam at me, so I let him do it, and didn't want to escalate the matter by responding further. That was back on June 14th. Since that time, he has sent me exactly ONE PM, and it got a reponse from me in less than an hour. His comments about me not responding to PM's are blantant mischaracterizations, if not flat-out lies.
2. In that July 11th PM mentioned in item #1, he asked me a question about his latest suspension, thinking that I was singling him out. I responded (again, less than an hour later) informing him that I had also suspended the person he was arguing with in that thread, Bubba Wheels. This thread is literally the next correspondence I received from him after my July 11th response. Frankly, considering he had accused me of singling him out, and I responded that no, he wasn't singled out, I remember that I considered the matter closed, and thought that he must have thought it was a satisfactory explanation, considering that I received no further response.
3. Yup. When I suspended Chubba and Bubba, I also "ghost-banned" them, because I was leaving town very soon afterward and wanted to help calm things down before I left. I considered both of their recent posts highly inflammatory, and wanted them not seen for a while.
4. With the new software, suspensions are removed automatically. "Ghost-bannings" are not. I just flat-out forgot to remove the ghost-ban on them. I suspended them until 7/21, but Chubby didn't post in GD again until yesterday afternoon, and Bubba Wheels has not posted since I issued the suspension nearly a month ago. Point being, there's simply no way I could have realized that the "ghost ban" was still active unless I had re-read old threads and noticed that their posts were ghosted. It may come as a shock to some, but I don't walk around day-to-day thinking, "Hahahahaha! So-and-so is suspended/ghost-banned from FOFC. He can't come back until such-and-such date, and when he does, he'll be ghost-banned too!!! MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" ;) No, I make a decision, and typically don't think that much more about it again unless/until it is brought up again. Upon reading this thread as a reminder, I removed the ghost-ban.
5. With regard to the front page, I was prepared to make some big changes there, and had even begun soliciting help, but I first tried to get people to begin to read it, but at the time there seemed to be limited interest in going through the front page every day. If that has changed, it is something we can always re-visit.
6. As has been mentioned, I learned from Blackadar that a very loosely, generally "self-moderated" board is healthy. I'm guessing that I've issued less than a dozen suspensions in the last 6-8 months or so. Of those, my further guess is that the majority of them were in response to a user reporting a post to me either via PM or the "report post" function--and I don't automatically issue a suspension on reported posts either. I don't have nearly the time to read every thread that is out there, so I rely on the hundreds of other eyes out there to help me know when someone has gone over the line. Lesson: if there's something that you think is inappropriate, just shoot me a PM, IM, reported post, or e-mail, and I'll look at it the first chance I get. In direct response to Chubby's rantings, I'm fairly certain that he's *never* given me any specific feedback about inappropriate behavior. You think someone has gone over the line, tell me. Otherwise, generic "your modding sucks" type comments ring quite hollow in my ears.
7. With regard to "inconsistencies" in modding, I'll yield the floor to the distinguished gentleman from Mays Landing, NJ:If you act like a normal human being to someone and they like you because of it, then they let you slide with a little more because they give you the benefit of the doubt. Act like an ass and pay the price. Sounds kind of like real life?
Just to be clear, I considered only posting points #1 and #2 in the post. Calling me out publicly and mendaciously for ignoring PM's invalidates any case that there were good and healthy intentions in starting this thread.
(EDIT: Restated point #7 when I realized that EagleFan had already made that point much better than I did.)

As the former webmaster of this site, I have just a couple of comments...
1. I never could understand the feud between SkyDog and Chubby. You'd think they would have a natural "alliance", both being or have been part of the site over the eyars. Chubby's postings over the last year or so have gotten more...expressive. I'm guilty of taking a hiatus from the board, so I'm not sure if/when he stepped over the line. I've certainly never seen it, but I've seen him get awfully close so I have to assume he's done so.
It's SkyDog's board now. Frankly, I think he's done a tremendous job, even though I don't always agree with his decisions, I know enough to shut my mouth and respect them. I turned the keys over on this place - I don't have any say-so in how it's run now. Chubby's in the same boat.
2. Chubby's also getting a bit delusional. I wrote or heavily contributed to most of the connent on the front page of this site. I didn't write the code - someone at Sportplanet did via Tony Wyss - but in terms of content, it was almost all written by me. So when Chubby says "90% of the content on there I made 4 years ago", I have to take everything else he says with a grain of salt because I know that's not correct.
I had planned on changing the color scheme and layout, but never got around to it. When I couldn't make that time committment, I turned the site over to SkyDog and Ryan. SkyDog's the one who took the lead on that and he deserves the site.
3. I really wish this feud would stop. I sound like I'm coming down on SkyDog's side and beating up Chubby (and perhaps I am), but it's sad to me to see this. I have a great deal of respect for both guys for their contributions over the years and it's just a shame this is happening. Please, guys, can we bury this hatchet?
P.S.
Going through the 1st page for the first time in a while, it would be awesome to put together another strategy guide. That was one of the highlights of the FOF community in my book. Interesting that of the 7 principal contributors: Amaroq, myself, Tony, ez, Arles, Sack Attack and Dwarf - only 3 of us still frequent this board (Arles, SA and me).

FWIW, I've seen "Ghosting" be a very effective form of troll control on several forums, each of which use it more frequently than this one.
It's usually good for at least several days worth of peace & quiet from known trolls, as it takes them time to figure out why they aren't eliciting a response.
As a moderation tool, I believe it can be quite effective & is at worst a good weapon in the arsenal.

I think someone needs some attention. Try learning a little bit from this. If you act like a normal human being to someone and they like you because of it, then they let you slide with a little more because they give you the benefit of the doubt. Act like an ass and pay the price. Sounds kind of like real life?
Nicely done.
And as for the front page content subject ... I'm hard pressed to believe that more than 5% of the community actually a) gives a shit and/or b)looks at the front page more than once a quarter.
This site/forum isn't about FOF, and hasn't been in ages.

I think if you will look at both Chubby and BubbaWheels you will find something in common: The letter "U." This in itself, it would seem, may not be enough because B[b]u[/u]ccaner has been put in the box, but his alter ego Ahnyraddddududududu (er) has not. Both Chubby and BubbaWheels share the string UBB in their username. UBB, like the abbreviation for our old and frustrating message board.
I submit to you, internet friends, that SkyDog is projecting his frustrations with the former message board on those users that share that specific name connection with it.
We should take pity on SkyDog and his mental disease. He has an illness to be treated, and is not the monster some people paint.
Let it go Ben, it will be okay. We are here for you.

Interesting that of the 7 principal contributors: Amaroq, myself, Tony, ez, Arles, Sack Attack and Dwarf - only 3 of us still frequent this board (Arles, SA and me).
1. I really think it's a combination of things. I think it's part I used to have something to do with the site, part different politiacal leanings, part I have no problem speaking my mind right or wrong, part my crtiqueing of his poor beta-testing abilities in FOF4, part who knows. I've never really gone out of my way to try and provoke Skydog and prolong any "feud" but I will react when crap is pulled against me.
2. I DID write a good portion of the code for the pages (nothing on the setup, that's way above what I know, but content I did) The game pages are a good example of what I wrote (basic HTML where I could just plug them into the frameworkof the site). I prob exaggerated the % but a good deal was written by me, not that it's very good mind you :)
3. I've tried. Skydog has made no effort on his part to resolve any issues he has with me. I don't have any issues with him except when he singles me out and treats me different from others. As I've said, 95% of the board can "troll" (using the traditional definition), post multiple inflammatory posts and nothing is done in the thread or to the users. I on the other hand, get a ban when I point out someone else is trolling.
Skydog - 1. You know how many PMs I have got from you where you were the 1st to corespond? None. Unprofessional. This is where your ego comes in, you need to be the one sought out. You need to feel important. Funny, you never PMd me about this either unless I am missing some PMs, but we both know I'm not.
2. The thread in question had to do with people constantly attacking me and me responding. You've never done anything about people jumping on another's posts for no reason constantly. CThomer to me a while ago, 1/2 the people with Flasch or Bubba are other examples. You can't expect people to not respond where there is no moderation on the board whatever% of the day.
3. Again, another symptom of their being no moderation on the board. "I considered both of their recent posts highly inflammatory, and wanted them not seen for a while." Funny, I thought that was what the penalty box was for. I must have been mistaken. Again, no communication from you. I knew I was in the box when I logged on here but not the ghost-ban until last night.
4. Bubba Wheels most certainly is posting under another name, I refuse to do that without making it known it's me.
5. I really don't care what happens with the frontpage. We both know it generates a fraction of the trafiic the site receives. It was more a point to your inability to want to do any actual work around here.
6. This deals more with the central point that you are just too damn lazy in general to do anything on here. Hell, you proved it already saying you were too lazy to take off the ghost-ban yourself. Too lazy to follow through on frontpage stuff. Too lazy to maintain QOTM so that had to go. Too lazy to contribute to IHOF.
Or is it you are too busy trying to feel important on other boards/communties. You want to beta test for OOTP6, and TPF, and any other game sports sim there is under development.
There's a point in threads where it's constructive to close them, when they are nothing but flame wars (i.e. almost every political and religious thread on here) yet you do nothing.
People see you have some beef with me, I just choose to downplay it when it's brought up. Yet you continue (right up to 10:37 EST 8/9/04) to not want to do anything to resolve w/e issues you have with me. It seems you'd rather use the "I'll take my ball and leave" tactic of digging you heels in like the brewhaha over the OOTP6 Player Pic Compilation ordeal.

Obviously I have no proof that he's posting under another name, I based that on the fact that I find it VERY unlikely he would have just stopped logging in for so long. He could also have braodband like me where your IP switches (don't know how much tho, I think the 1st couple of #s stay the same?)

i am baffled by anyone that manages to get banned, penalty boxed (or whatever the hell you want to call it) from a forum wants to come back. If you've read this forum enough and have a little common sense you know what constitutes crossing the line. Even if that line is yours alone (for those that get multi-bans).
And, if you like this forum so much and apparently don't like being banned --- stop posting shit that will get you booted!
For god sakes, if you managed to get banned from an internet forum you have some bigger issues than waiting for your ban to lift.

There's a difference when one person's line is way lower than everyone elses from the beginning, especially when they get banned for not even violating a rule and I quote "A lifetime achievement ban" because someone doesn't like you. There's no consistency.

"A lifetime achievement ban"
Most people work with the presumption that once you do something wrong, if you continue to do the same things over and over, you haven't learned your lesson. Sounds to me like your bar started where everyone else's did, but you repeatedly got in trouble, and so you kept lowering your own bar, because you knew (or should have known) better, based on past experience. If you think that is unique to this board, you're wrong.
How about this - think of yourself as the Mark Cuban of FOFC, except he pays cash for his inappropriate comments and you just lose time posting at a messageboard.

The rub is I wasn't doing anything, and I certainly was never told I was doing anything wrong prior to the lifetime achievement award. That was the 1st banning, and my bar is lower because of personal beefs Skydog has with me and not because of anything I've done here. but again, I wouldn't know what those are since Skydog refuses to tell me.

I'd love to know how one who isn't an admin would have any substantive reason since we can't check IPs or anything.I'm guessing that in around half of the cases where it is discovered that someone has come back under a new name, it is because a non-admin told me, and in most cases, that non-admin has been proven to be correct. How the non-admins know has been different, but most often, it is because the perpetrator told someone and that someone told someone, and it eventually got back to me.

The Mohawks are just too good for the playoffs. They don't feel the need to test themselves in the conventional ways, but are instead happy just knowing they are the league's best team.
Correct!!!
We don't need to lose home playoff games like some to know we're good :D

I doubt it was a birthdate that got Skippy busted. It was probably this post...
If I remember correctly, didn't mrskippy vote "Too bad she's married" and say that going after married woman isn't his style. Now, if he shows up at her door in Phoenix, I'd be worried.
How someone who registered just this month would know nearly word for word what Skippy said is beyond me...

Ah, yes. Such shame I feel in losing a conference championship game.

dummies :)Agreed, but it is the same mindset that causes a number of criminals to be caught because they bragged about their crimes to someone. That's how the two teenagers who killed the grandparents in Georgia were caught, for that matter.
tho your welcome for getting you to look around so you could find mrskippy.Nope. The Bubba Wheels check had nothing to do with uncovering mrskippy. That was a case of a heads-up from an Alert Board Member.
how dumb can someone be to use the same birthdate if they're trying to start a new identity. Not much I can say to that one...

However, if someone is using a separate ISP or IP masking every single time they sign in as Bubba Wheels, then there's really not much that I can do about that.

Ha! Rest your mind, Skydog. I just don't have that kind of time for all those shennanigans. I am flattered that I have occuppied so much of your though, though, sadly I can't say you do the same for me. Peace in Christ. :)

Good thing you dug up that week-old sugarplum of a thread to post that. Does Christ teach you sarcasm, or is that self-taught?

Right! Of course, anything you don't like is wrong, and your the very essence of sweetness and light (right, sugarplum?) Maybe the fact is I just don't get around to this board like I did. Matter of fact, rooting around in the past threads is how I even came to find out how this whole story unfolded in the first place. Thought Chubby was banished to the cornfields for good like lil' ol' Billy Mummy used to do in the Twilight Zone.
But to be very clear, I don't appreciate my NOT posting something to be cause for alot of idle gossip and speculation (wrong at that), especially from someone else claiming the faith himself.

We nicknamed one guy "Ghost" because when he played basketball on your team it was like he wasn't even out there.

You know, with the missing comma before "shithead," it appears that you're referring to Sister Teresa and your friends as shitheads.
Just an observation. Carry on. :D
