We train down to Surrey, Englan for our third title this season. Our first non-links course is Wentworth West. In real life it plays home to the European Tour's Volvo PGA and World Match Play events. For us, it's the Hattrick open.

Mar Mel has a sponsor's exemption if he chooses.

Pending how many spots are filled with top 12 and HT'etrs, the rest of the 24 spots will be filled via a 9 hole round.

I think only the bottom two don't qualify, you are in next week no matter what, it's a Major.

Yeah, I'll throw u in the qualifier and give you the option of bumping a player out if you don't automatically qualify.

Remember, you carry that exemption until you use it. Same for K.A.Ton when he doesn't finish in the top 12 too. As a tour winner you earn that "free spin" card.

FYI- Major winners are exempt until they defend that Major.

We had 12 players for 9 spots...All eyes, however, were on Hollywood c-list actor Roy McEvoy, whose biggest claim to fame was portraying Kevin Costner in the epic, "How to Ruin a Movie", decided to join the tour, bringing a gaggle of reporters from Hollywood to mark his progress for Entertainment Tonight.

While the sight of Mary Hart in a windblown skirt made the guys relax, it was time to get on with the round. Grouped with tour winner and Victor's Secret model Mar Mel, and Shane Kormelink. McEvoy promptly bogied 1 and 2, putting his chances in jeopardy early. A series of pars calmed him down until a missed fairway on 6 caused anouther bogey. Three over for nine holes and a quick trip to Paris to get ready for next week's major.

Kormelink bogied 2, birdied 4 and bogied 7. He needed par at 9 to make it at +1. His approach was long, but not horrible. Thinking his birdie putt was slower then it really was, he slammed it 8 feet past. Needing a par to get into a sudden death playoff, Shane had the right line, but not enough oomph coming back. 2 inches for a bogey and a +2 37.

Jeebs Eckberg needs to relax this week, a quick 3 over after three holes, he never sniffed birdie the whole round. Head shaking, he left a cold +5 after 9 holes. Some soul searching for next week, the good news being no cut for 54 holes.

Briefly...Angus MacHaggis was the medalist, -2 33. Erick Daschel at -1 34, Mel, Matt Jones, Ty Whit, and Ron Juckett with even par 35, AJ Tucker, N Waeltz, and Sarah Juckett avoided a playoff with a +1 36.

As we start coverage, Matt Jones has seemed to solve what most cannot on this well baked course. Jones is taking advantage of the easier back side by birding 11 and 12 to push him to -5. AJ Tucker bogied 12, while the Juckett couple remain well back. Ron with bogey on 10, birdie on 12. Sarah doubled 10, then birdied 12.

Jordan Lee is taking full advantage of his first round, ace on the short par three 10th to pull level. He then did the David Gonzalez dance and bogied-birdied-bogied the next three holes. Woody Driver bogies 10 and 13, Brian Fowler bogey on 11, David Yellope bogey on 12.

Hot on Matt Jones heels are the entire last group. Eric Dachel birdied 10 and 12 before an unfortunate double on 13. Kevin Heath got hot, birdie on 10 and 11, eagle on 12. Todd Henry birdied 11, then bogied 12 and 13. Al Mighty traded birdie and bogey on 12 and 13.

Everyone else made all pars or hasn't teed off on 10 yet except David Gonzalez who bogied 10.

I expected scores overall to be a bit lower this week, and that still may be the case, but our first look at the cut shows it being at even.

Matt Jones is shooting a very impressive round. A birdie at 13, he has the par 5's at 17 and 18 coming up and could post a very good number. AJ Tucker is right now doing a 180. doubles at 13 and 14 have him 12 shots behind. Ron Juckett birdied 15.

Al Mighty can pretty much count on a spot in the final foursome in round 2, birdies at 15 and 17 have him right in the drivers seat. Todd Henry doubled 15.

N Waeltz, who was so extremely frustrated by the links courses the last two weeks has fired off three straight birdies, and with the back playing easier, he could also shoot in the 60's by the time the day is done. Angus MacHaggis birdied both 11 and 12. David Gonzalez refuses to make par, bogey-eagle(added length to course being dry)-bogey has him at +5. Ty Whit bogey-birdie at 11 and 12.

Mike Tokunaga eagled 11, Dylan Airhart birdied it, Jesse Ewiak bogied it. Tim Watts bogey came on 13.

Woody Driver birdies 15, Jordan Lee does 14, Brian Fowler also birdied 15. Dave Yellope found trouble on 15 and 16, dropping shots on both.

The breeze has kicked in of the Irish Sea. Accuracy will drop a pont, but Iron Play increases one as we get to cut day. Really only the fates of five of our 24 golfers are known. Matt Jones and Al Mighty are crusing towards recod low scores and, barring catatrosphe, are playing tomorrow. On the flip side, Sarah Juxckett, AJ Tucker, and David Gonzalez need lights out rounds to play tomorrow.

My guess is that this cut creeps under par and -1 or -2 may be required. We'll get everybody on the course and see you in a bit.

Remember that the front 9 here is the harder side. Apparently Mar Mel and Sarah Juckett missed that memo. Juckett, who once again was placed in the given up for dead group, birdied 2, eagled the par 5 4th, before giving one back at 6. Karl Schexnayder doubled one and birdied 3. AJ Tucker birdied 4, and David "Question Authority" Gonzalez made par on the first six holes, which I think was more pars combined then his last three rounds.

Mar Mel birdied the extremely difficult par 4 1st putting himself from a six way tie for fourth to a two way tie for third. Kevin Heath bogied 1 and 3 along with Ron Juckett. Todd Henry birdied 2.

Don't let Dave Yellope's +3 lull you into thinking he's made 4 pars, double at 1 followed by eagle at 4. Airhart bogied-birdie at 3 and 4. K.A.Ton tripled 1, birdies at 2 and 4 stopped the bleeding. Tim Watts doubled 3, birdied 4.

Ty Whit bogey at one was cashed in with birdie at 4. Deacon Palmer cannot right the ship, bogies at 1, 2, and 5, with only a birdie at 4 to balance. Woody Driver tried to charge early, birdiesat 1 and 2, but a double at three has him level so far. Jesse Ewiak dropped shotsat 1, 2, and 4.

Top 8 golfers are very early into the round. Eric Dachel suffered bogey at 1. So did Jordan Lee and N Waeltz. Brian Fowler doubled 2.

When Titelist signed Matt Jones at the beginning of the tour to a nice ball contract, little did he know it would potentially cost him more than it was worth. His tee shot on three found the deep right rough. The volunteer marshal was kind enough to think he spotted Jones drive. Jones took his time, pulled a 7 iron and blasted just short of the green. 165 yards ahead, a rules official watched the nicely struck shot miss the bunkers right of the hole and marveled at the skill of the shot until he noticed something.

"Hey Matt, would you come here please?"
"Sure." He said strolling to survey his tiny chip to get up and down.
"What ball are you playing this week?"
"Titelist Pro V-1."
"I thought so." The rules official pointed at the ball.
"Fu......" The ball had a swoosh. ;)

Jones found his correct ball, nearly hit it in the same spot as his first second shot, and did get up and down, for six. Tied now going to the easy 4th.

Jones, obviously flustered, shanked his tee and approach on four, while Al Mighty split the fairway, and glided a 3 wood within 15 feet for eagle. Jones dropped one, and Mighty converted. In two holes, a six shot swing. Wow.

Last Group- Eric Dachel does his "Gonzalez" dance from 3-6, double-birdie-bogey-birdie. Jones settles in for a par on 5, then plays awful shots on the tee on the under 400 yard 6th and 7th, making bogies there from the rough. Mighty could not get up and down from a front bunker on 6, but a stinger iron sets up par on 7. Canada's Sushi Express, Mike Tokunaga has stayed mostly quiet so far, but birdied 7 to sit 5 back and in great position.

3rd to last Group- The Thong is back. Mar Mel's birdie at 8 was his third on the front side with six pars, six back when he teed off, he now is three back on 10 tee. Todd Henry added a birdie on six, to be at -2. Kevin Heath and Ron Juckett aren't factors at the moment.

Elsewhere- Dylan Airhart from 3 to 8 went bogey-birdie-bogey-birdie-birdie-birdie.

When the round started, half the field was at par or better. As the leaders stand on the 11th tee, only 7 remain under par.

On the lead group, Matt Jones has settled down and made all pars as he turned the corner. He needs to forget his front 9 40 and take advantage of the trio of par 5's on the back. Al Mighty smiled a bit too often when he claimed the lead and let his concentration go, bad approaches on 8 and 9 led to 3 putt bogies. You can't leave putts short and win. Mike Tokunags added birdie at 8 to his birdie at 7. Two back is more than he could have hoped for after starting the round six off.

The third to last group has clicked. Mar Mel is hitting fairways and greens and getting birdies on par5's, this time on 12 and for the share of the lead. Ron Juckett, for the fist time, got into a zone. While content with a +1 front 9, he stiffed his tee on 10 within 5 feet. His confidence grew as a solid 6 iron put him 12 feet away on 11 for birdie. As he stood in the 12th fairway, a dead solid perfect 1 iron to 12 feet set up eagle. Three holes, four under. Todd Henry bogey-birdie-bogey.

First what happened to the leaders.

Al Mighty started clicking again, solid birdies at 11 and 12 had him back to -7, and under par on his round. The 13th hole, however has water, which Mighty found. From the sea to the beach, Mighty had no chance at making 5, and goes to the 14th tee thinking about a double. Matt Jones took advantage of the par 5 12th and made birdie, and was noticeably relieved after Mighty's 6. Mike Tokunaga also birdied 14, and quietly is making a very nice charge.

Two groups ahead, Mar Mel also found water at 13, His 3rd out of the rough airmailed the green, he ended up making 6, 2 back. He settled down rather quickly with two pars, knowing that he has 2 par 5's to close, -5 is the target in his head. Ron Juckett's iron play continues to shine, he birdied the par 3 14th after yet another brilliant 7 iron off the tee. Todd Henry birdied 15. Elsewhere, Dylan Airhart's birdie on 15 has him within a shout tomorrow.

Now the cut. Karl Schexnayder and AJ Tucker played lights out coming home. Following a bogey at 13 to make him +6, Schexnayder bore down and deposited birdiesat 14, 15, and 17. At +8 on the turn, Tucker birdied 11, 12, 16, 17, and 18, 31 on the back. Right now 14 golfers are +3 or better with 11 at +2 or better. Brian Fowler is the key guy, bogies at 12 and 14 have him on the bubble. Even for him from now to the finish means all 3 plays, he goes at least -1 the rest of the way, +2 becomes the cut. Dave Yellope, earlier, birdied 12 to sit at +4. Kevin Heath also has the pair of closing par 5's to play. Six straight pars on the back for him.

Finally, David Gonzalez has something to buld on next week in France, birdies on 12, 14, 17, and 18 got him back to +5.

The forecasted heavy rains for Sunday arrived after midnight. No real wind, no thunder, just heavy showers. The course is playing much longer today, (length is -1 for everybody), but the greens are slow and receptive, (+1 on all putting).

Scoring should be good today.

Your players today are:

1400 BST

ANGUS MACHAGGIS(71-71=142)- At -2, a 67 is not out of the realm of possibility. Keep drives in the fairway, and approaches in greens, he'll have a shot.

K.A. TON(73-72=145)- Last weeks winner and tour leader in points and money. Ton needs a 69 or better to have a realistic shot at the points. His excellent sand game and deft putter should help with the Sunday charge.

JORDAN LEE (71-74=145)- This week's rookie will be happy to get a paycheck his first time out.

KEVIN HEATH (72-74=146)- His eagle on 18 got him here today. Fairways and greens should bump him up some and draw money.

1415 BST

MAR MEL (71-69=140)- Along with K.A. Ton, he's the best player on tour. He's already won, and shown he can go low. The tour's best putter, a 65 would win him a second trophy.

TIM WATTS (75-67=142)- The rains will hurt his length off the tee, put his work on the green should make up for that. The Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde rounds needs to stop. A 67 would go a long way into doing that.

DYLAN AIRHART (73-69=142)- The receptive greens are his best friend today. Expect lots of irons off the tee. While certainly not out of it, he hasn't shown the signs of success yet on payday.

TODD HENRY (72-70=142)- Final group first two weeks, he knows how to get here. Needs to forget his being intimidated by Mel at St. Andrews. Another 70 round has him in good form heading towards next weeks major.

1430 BST

AL MIGHTY (66-71=137)- Al took advantage of the longer driving conditions on Friday to be within two. His eagle on 18 yesterday, is why he leads today. Mighty needs to play fairways and greens to win.

RON JUCKETT (72-66=138)- Juckett shot 30 on the backside yesterday. He's not exceled so far on tour, but his sand game is better then most and he did shoot a 30 on the back 9 here. 68 today, and he should win.

MIKE TOKUNAGA (70-68=138)- Only one bogey yesterday. Played well i nasty conditions last week. Not as flamboyant as Mel, not as reserved as Ton, but in that class. Avoid the big numbers early and work the closing par 5's hard.

MATT JONES (64-75=139)- His magical iron play failed him yesterday, plus playing the wrong ball hurt him too. He should be tied for the lead. Lets see if he channels that frustration into a special round.

Tim Watts bogey-biridie on 3 and 4. Airhart dropped shots at 3 and 5, while Henry has navigated the minefield so far, picking up his shot on 4.

Angus MacHaggis vaulted up the board with eagle on 4. K.A.Ton has caused the rest of the field to mumble has birds on 4 and 5 have him on the red side of par. Lee and Heath got the shots lost on 3 back on 4.

This may have been the most 45 minutes in tour history.

3:30 PM- Al Mighty finds the bunker off the 5th tee while Mike Tokunaga hits a beautiful 6 iron within 8 feet for birdie. While Juckett and Jones make their pars, Mighty failed to get up and down for par while Tokunaga sinks his birdie putt....meanwhile Todd Henry finds water on 6 and doubles.....also, Angus MacHaggis takes advantage of the small par 4 7th and nails a 9 footer for bird, he's tied with Juckett and Jones at -5.

3:45- Ron Juckett hits a combination of 1 iron and pitching wedge to 6 feet and joins Mighty and Tokunaga at -6, Tokunaga misses a longish 25 footer fir bird by 3 feet. Then, Matt speeds a bit too much on his par putt and makes 5, dropping out of the share of the lead....at the same time...Mar Mel hits a rough approach shot on 7, leaving himself a 35 footer for birdie. Disgusted with himself, he takes a few seconds longer to read it. A firm stroke and in the hole, -4....as the roar from 7 reverberates around the course, Angus MacHaggis confindently sinks a 12 footer on 8 to move him to -6, and tied for the lead.
