Yeah, how sad to see him go at only 32...He could have easily played 'till the next world cup.
But then again, if he played there like he played in the Euro in Portugal...

Thread title is a bit misleading... Zidane just quit from international football, which isn't really that shocking as some think it is. He's 32 and will be 34 by the next WC. Plenty of players retire from international play by that age to focus on just playing for their clubs.

What, you mean like slotting in a perfect set piece to win a match? :p

Complete misleading... Rooting for Atletico de Madrid, it seemed to be the best news of the summer :)

Otherwise it would be sad... I still think he's the best player nowadays

Checklist of retirements to make the Dutch football team better:
V - Pavel Nedved
V - Zinedine Zidane
V - Frank de Boer
V - Figo
? - Oliver Kahn

Now if only Ronaldo, Raul, Patrick Vieira, Sol Campbell and Francisco Totti would retire, the odds for Oranje to be a force in Germany 2006 will be awesome!

Anway, sad news for French football, but at least with Zidane, France got the best out of him and the team surrounding him: World Cup'98 and Euro 2000 victories. If great players are partially defined by success by the teams they played on, Zidane made his mark for sure.

Forget about Raul, he's declining, and for the first time in his life, he will see how football looks like from the bench. With Real Madrid adding Michael Owen (as Spanish "Marca" grants for sure) to the "galactic mix", Raul is the odd man in the field
