I feel like such a dope.

my wife is normally an early Christmas shopper, and this year she's starting even earlier since she'll literally be 8 months pregnant when December rolls around.

so, a few months ago, she warned me not to open any mail addressed to her, even if it seemed like something mundane like a utility bill (I had accidentally spoiled a birthday surprise a few months ago by doing just that). No problem, I said.

well, today we got our stock statements for the employee stock purchase plan at work. being that we're in need of some cash flow (see Bat Thread), I figured I'd check to see how many shares we were holding. Never even though about her warning, and opened her statement. I noticed an error on hers - it had her owning 10 shares of Dominoes. No biggie, I thought - this is the same financial people who deposited $250,000 by mistake into my account once.

come to find out, the stock wasn't a mistake - it was planned to be a Christmas present, and was the very reason for the big warning. I feel so badly that I've fucked it up - especially because that's such a cool gift idea that I would have NEVER thought of.

I think I mentioned this in the "Unique Christmas Gifts" thread last year... but I bought my wife a share of Disney last Christmas. She loved it. And the cool thing is, she gets financial statements from the company and even gets to vote on corporate issues now.

Well, since you have ruined Christmas, you now have to buy her an amazing gift...like diamonds! Or a luxury car with a BIG bow on it! Or some really amazing trip around the world (minus the kids of course) :)

luckily, she's pretty cool about stuff like this. she's just really disappointed (as am I). it was such a neat idea, and now I've spoiled the surprise. so, no couch for me (the couch is in the room where the bat may be, so she'd really have to be pissed to banish me there)

Well, the scary thing is that there are a lot of girls who actually would do what you said ("I'm going to be mad at you until you buy me off or emasculate yourself for me for your accidental mistake"). And strangely enough, guys don't really like that mentality.

This coming from the person who, if told "don't open any mail addressed to me, even business looking stuff" in relation to christmas, would beat me to the mailbox every day, and open all my mail until she knew what she was getting? ;)

This is true, there are women like that, but I am not one of them so it was meant completely as a joke :)

That is not true and you know it...I would just whine, beg and pester you about it until you gave in and told me, or gave me my present early :)
