CARSON, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Galaxy fired coach Sigi Schmid on Monday despite leading Major League Soccer with 34 points.
Team president and general manager Doug Hamiltion said he expect to name a new coach soon.
Schmid's dismissal follows Saturday's scoreless tie against the Columbus Crew that extended Los Angeles' winless streak to five games.
The Galaxy is 0-1-4 during that stretch, scoring only three goals, and 9-6-7 overall.
"This is a painful decision,'' Hamilton said in a conference call. "I regret having to do this. Sigi is a good man that has given a lot to this club and this community.
Los Angeles has a two-point lead over Kansas City in the Western Conference, but has played two more games.
After winning the MLS championship in 2002, Los Angeles went 9-12-9 last season, the team's worst record in the league's eight-year history.
Schmid, 51, was named the Galaxy coach on April 22, 1999. He guided the team to the MLS Cup three times, with Los Angeles' lone title coming in a 1-0 overtime win over New England.

Sorry, we're so used to seeing MLS threads get threadcrapped by folks we are a bit jumpy.
In my case, at least I can blame it on the painkillers.. : (fucking DC pieces of crap)

Eh, while the Galaxy have arguably been the best team since MLS ineption, with the talent they have and have had throughout the MLS seasons, the one title is rather disappointing. The Galaxy have been on a 6 game winless streak right now and he barely kept his job after they had a nightmare season last year with the 0 home wins as well as the Bonds like choke job vs SJ in the playoffs.
Before the season started I remember that Steve Sampson was rumored to be the front runner.
They gotta do something because I have a feeling Chivas USA will probably dominant the MLS

Does this have anything to do with the thread on bigsoccer.com ... nevermind I just went to get the link and saw that it was in fact related.
As a United supporter, I would like to add my apology (not that I had anything to do with it) and would ask that you give RFK another chance. Most of the time, the supporters are wonderful and the game experience is great.
And of course, anytime supporters from out of town are making their way to RFK, you should let us know...

While sarcasm can be interesting or amusing, when used in non-obvious situations on a medium that does not translate sarcasm well (say, a text medium), it is not always effective.

P.S. Wow, what odd timing on Schmid. Wonder if there is more to this story we don't know?I was reading something about where a forward he substituted for just walked off the field. No handshake, no acknowledgement of him or anything. That makes me think that he has lost the team. Basically, I think unless management were going to back him and deal with that player or he would have to go.

Jesus Christ, you guys need to relaxOr just folks who would like to be able to have a decent discussion on a topic they find interesting. But, hey, since it is not something of interest to you that gets shit on or interrupted constantly, it must not be important and these people are just overreacting, right? Obviously.

Ok.. here's the story.
Spent most of the day seeing the sites in DC, doing the tourist thing, of course, with the remmnants of Charley around, that means I got soaked to the bone. But I made it over to the stadium, met up with the about 20 Rev fans who had came down via a variety of ways to catch the game (plains trains and automobiles).
We go in, and our seats are way back under a covered area. Now we realize the steps are slippery due to the rain (some of the really small steps caused troubles, I saw several people fall during the night)
During the game, we see a field level section just about at the end line completely empty, and we move down, because we're fans, and we didn't want to bother the kids in our section with some of our chants.. The DC Supporter section (which is at Midfield), takes this in stride, and just doubles its noise output, they'd be durned if they're going to let any New Englanders even compare to their level of noise :D)
about ten minutes to go in the half, I see a couple families move from where they were seated (a couple sections over) and sit in the front row of our section. I turn to one of the guys who were standing next to me, and I quietly murmur.. "We're being set up.."
and guess what, I was right! With about 2 minutes to go in the half, CSC security (ha!) comes down and asks to see our tickets, and tells us we'll have to move back up, because they are "reserved" seats. Of course, they were completely empty, but they were reserved. So we move back. and the families move back to their seats with plenty of laughter directed at us.
At halftime, some of the liquored up bravos apparently challenge Monty (the president of the Midnight Riders, the Revolution fan group that sponsored this trip) and a couple others to fight. A couple of DC United supporters (real fans, their supporter sections), manages to smooth things over, and get the liquored up yahoos away. Monty asks the CSC Security woman if she shaw that.. she just laughs it off. (!?!?!!!)
So we spend the 2nd half cheering from our covered seats.. A lot of the DC fans come by and shake our hands late in the game on their way out (2-2 draw).. we give each other the razz during the game, but we're all soccer fans.. so before/after the game, we'll even tailgate together, etcetera.
Ok.. so the game ends, and who comes back, but those three idiots, who are talking trash to us.. Monty's girlfriend tries to be a peacemaker, but they see her yellow jacket and assume she's part of security and pushes her away to continue to go after the Revs fans (this sets Monty off BIG TIME).. about this time.. one of the other fans hops up on the railing and attacks one our drummers (split lip, bleeding like mad), and our fans are about to go over the railing back at them). Trying to keep this from turning into a donnybrook, I'm going down the steps (I was on the 2nd row), to try to grab Monty, who had one leg over the rail and was ready to go down)
I slip on one of those tiny small "in-between" steps (you know, the kind that aren't even a full sneaker length), and catch myself before I fall, but I torqued my knee pretty hard.
Some more of the DC Fans, come over, and drag the idiots away, and right now the adrenalin is masking the pain, I know it hurts, but I don't know how much I hurt it.
Apparently, there's no cameras in the stadium and no yellow jacket radios, so there's no way to identify the idiots who did this, but we wait 10 minutes for a supervisor to come over, and a police officer, with the help of one of DC fans, we explain the whole thing.. they advise us to leave as a group..
This is about a half hour later as we were heading back to the van. I went up a flight of stairs, and the knee was starting to really scream in pain.. About ten steps later, the leg just crumples under me, and down goes Fozzie :/
A nearby police officer calls the ambulance.. and the rest of the Riders make sure I didn't hit my head, and they're just waiting for the ambulance..
and waiting..
and waiting..
and waiting..
When Monty goes off to check with the police officer about the status of the ambulance, one of the other Riders mentions to me "Don't say this to him.. he doesn't know yet, but apparently some idiots, don't know if they are the same ones or not.. attacked our rental van) (did at least $800, probably over $1K in damage.. they're looking into initiating legal proceedings, I guess)
So.. 40 minutes after requesting an ambulance, one finally gets dispatched and off I go to the emergency room. On a scale of 1-10, painwise it was a pretty constant 4, but a 7.5-8 when bumped or moved. I know emergency rooms are pretty busy, so I don't have a problem when they put my stretcher in a corner, and it's a while before they see me. (by the time I got registered, it was 11:25.. and I had suffered the injury about 9:25)..
They give me some pain killers, and eventually do some XRays of my knee and leg, and determine there's no break or tear, and that it was a strained ligament. So they give me crutches, a leg brace, and a couple of prescriptions, and I call a taxi to get back to my hotel room (discharged at about 3:30 AM).
So, unless RFK improves security, I won't be back. I can understand it's a balance between a reasonable cost and providing safety, but although 95-99% of DC Fans are decent folks (they really know how to make noise in their supporters sections), thanks to the idiots, I don't know if I'd really feel SAFE going to a game again at RFK
