Talk about home court advantage. The Greek fans just don't let up.
And it looks like the US will probably get outshot from 3 again this game.

It's now 36-28 US with 1:24 to go in the half.

Impressive - a 6 point win by an NBA all-star team over a team that was 5th in the 2003 European Championships and only in the tournament to begin with through the exemption for the host city.
"Every time we lose a game it is like the end of the world, an apocalypse" said Stephon Marbury.
Oh, sorry Starbury - apparently the nation has your group confused with players trying to proudly represent our country on a world stage in the sport we invented. Terribly sorry to interrupt your summer vacation with demands that you play defense and win basketball games against (allegedly) inferior opponents. Then again, if you're a ball-hogging, no defense playing, never going to win a thing in your career primadonna DURING your job why should we expect anything else outside of it.

Both teams played hard.
If we only won by 6, either we didn't play hard or didn't play well because we sure in hell had a huge advantage in talent.
You guys obviously don't recognize the Rasheed Wallace "both teams played hard" comment. Oh well.
And I dont think the US has a huge advantage in talent in this competition, at least not in regards to how the international game is being played. They have more athleticism, but not talent. Other teams can actually drive inside, not put up 20 turnovers a game, and make a shot from the outside.

We had a huge advantage in people who are talented at the NBA game. The international game is setup to eliminate the skills and abilities that lead to success in the NBA.
Post play is removed by the sagging zones. Oops, Tim Duncan is removed.
Basically all fakes (including head fakes where neither of the offensive players feet ever move) are called travels. Thus what makes wing players successful in the NBA (beating your man for a drive to the hoop) is illegal in international play.
The struggles of this team have far more to do with a lack of understanding of the international game by the players and by the people who chose the team than it is the players not taking this seriously. It is like they are having to learn a whole new game (one they have some talent to play) in just a few days, against experienced, talented players.

My thoughts:
1. I cant bought that the FIBA basket is other game than NBA Basket. I believe is player in a different way. Nowadays, no NBA team has really used the zone. Yeah it is used from time to time but no in a regular basis.
NBA game is more spectacular, more flashy. In FIBA basket Kobe is a 15-point-man. In tactic, I believe that Europe is far away the US.
2. US team is a group of strangers. All good players but with 15 days of experience. Lithuania, Spain, Serbia, Argentina, all the team works like a team.
3. US has better player, but with less variety. Spain (as example) has 2 defense especialists, a center who shoots 3 pointers, and forward who add a lot of energy. The bench knows that they are the bench. US is an all star team. But they have no different things. I miss Ray Allen, I misss Nick Van Exel.
Just personal opinions

The rules (and enforcement of rules) are very different. Thus the games are different. Not really hard to figure out.
Put any of these national teams against an NBA team, under NBA rules, with NBA refs, and any NBA team (ok, maybe not the Hawks) beats them by 30, with regularity.
Not to endorse the NBA's style of play over the international game (I think a mix of the two would make a good game) but right now, our players are trying to play their game, and not being particularly successful. Their players would struggle even harder to play our game.

Richard Jefferson is now 3/23 from the field. Fotsis had a hard time getting playing time on a less than 30 wins Grizzlies team. Hopefully Brown becomes logical and benches Jefferson's ass, and plays Lebron more.

Yeah, those bums like Dirk Nowitzki, Manu Ginobili, Peja and Yao will never amount to anything in the NBA. ;)
What do you mean its a different game? You mean because the refs aren't being told by their boss to not call travelling and to call infractions against the league's superstars in a different manner so as to a) not impose on their ability to make flashy plays and b) not take them out of the game because of fouls that its a different game? You mean because our players are inept at shooting the ball into the hoop from anywhere outside of 8-10 feet that its a different game? You mean because the other teams don't stand around on offense waiting for whoever has the ball to eat up the shot clock with pointless dribbles before firing off some shot with little to no chance of going in its a different game?
Hell yeah its a different game - the difference is the other teams know how to play it. Its still basketball - its just that our guys only know how to dunk and talk smack. They are not being paid millions of dollars to be individuals - they're being paid paltry by comparison wages to play as a team in a system. Why should the world change how it plays because we're too lazy to play the right way and why should we get excuses made for us because of it?
I actually think that these teams and players could have success in the NBA. If you can't make a jump shot you can't make a jump shot regardless of whether the refs are NBA refs calling NBA "violations" or not.
