I have the MLB package on DirecTV, so I see (listen to) just about all of the announcers in the game at some point.
I have come to despise a few: Namely the morons for the White Sox and the guys from Texas. Both broadcasting teams are absolutely awful, especially the dumbasses who announce for the Sox.
Anyone else have any guys they despise?

I mentioned this in the "punch in the face" thread - the White Sox guys for sure. I love the Red Sox guys. Jerry Remy is terrific.

The Sox guys are horrible. They easily top my list. I also can't stand to listen to Joe Morgan, although John Miller makes up for how bad Morgan is.
The Braves broadcasters are high on my list as well.

If I hear the phrase "He gooone" one more time, I will be buying a ticket to Chicago. Considering the fact that they're playing my Tigers, I should be checking Expedia right now.

It's funny, I always kinda enjoyed John Sterling as the Atlanta Hawks announcer, but good grief, I'd rather have my ears ripped off than hear him do baseball.

At least our guys are uh, distinctive.
But hey Harry Carey rooted for the cubs when he announced and the White sox before that in the 70s! And he was beloved! So why cant modern day announcers do the same thing. It is the hometown station and hometown fans appreciate that sort of thing.

McCarver-actually no clue if he works for anyone regularly but he is the most worthless I've ever heard. No question.

Got nothing to do with being homers. I hate their "we're ex-players and know more than you" attitude. It's like they're calling the game in some inside joke language. Bugs the shit out of me.

Back in the late '80s, Ron Fairly was about as bad as anyone I've ever heard when he was doing Giants games. In fact, I stopped listening to games on the radio because of him. And then, he was apparently surprised when they replaced him. Not sure if he's still doing games anywhere, though.

Oh man...Fairly was terrible. I was so glad when they dumped him. He was so bad he made Wayne Hagin look like a hall of famer.
Bip Roberts has been ok as a dugout reporter for the Giants this year, but when Krukow was unavailable, the Bipster filled in a few games in the booth. VERY raw.

I agree about Joe Morgan. For a HOF'er, he adds absolutely nothing to the broadcast.

Of course, although we had to suffer through the Fairly years, we've also had Lon Simmons, Hank Greenwald, and Jon Miller, so I guess we Giants fans don't really have all that much to complain about on the broadcasting side.

I have to agree, the most worthless piece of crap in the booth. I hate that guy when he was with the Giants. Also, Greg Papa is annoying too, all I wait for during the Giants broadcasts is for Papa to say "touchdown rrrraiderrs" F*cking raiders sh*t.

At the risk of being repetitive, HAWK HARRELSON. Worst announcer EVER. And it's not about being a homer -- it's about being an annoying idiot redneck, about being in love with yourself over your little asinine "folksy" catch phrases. It's about not being able to multitask while watching the White Sox -- you have to always watch the TV, because when the opposition does something good, HE LITERALLY WON'T SAY A WORD ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED. Completely unprofessional.
Always amusing to think he once fired Tony LaRussa in his disastrous stint as GM.

Just recently, I watched the game between WS and Indians, the last I heard was:
"Go Timo!, go Timo!, go Timo!, go Timo!,....and going!
I hate Chris Wheeler. I feel bad for Phillies fans.

Joe Morgan. Tim McCarver, and Joe Buck- also anything involving Stucliffe or Dibble is automatically crap. The thing with Morgan is that I love listening to him when he's explaining things like how to better turn the double play- but he's awful when he's discussing strategy, or that book Billy Beane wrote (his words)... McCarver is a just a typical bitter old man- that's all.

Did you know....
That if you foul off 2-4 pitches in succession, regardless of what you do after that, it's a good at bat?
Chip Caray said it (and says it EVERY damn time), so it must be true!

Yeah -- while not reaching the depths of awfulness that Harrelson does, Chip Caray is fairly terrible in his own right. But at least Chip is balanced out by the superb Steve Stone (at least until Stoney can't take him anymore and retires again).

Up in Seattle, we get Fairly, who once uttered during a broadcast "When I was a young boy, I was young" God, what an idiot. Also, up here, we have Rick Rizz (spelling?), who you might remember from replacing Ernie Hartwell in Detroit for a season. Although, Dave Henderson does do a good job.
And, as I said in another thread, lets go visit the White Sox announcer FOFC style... Bring the Wiffleball bats!!!

I can't even watch the Reds on TV. George Grande and Chris Welsh are horrific. I have the MLB package and watch alot of tiger's games (friend pitches for them), and their color analyst is pretty darn clueless, don't know his name.

I hate to say it, but Astros radio play-by-play man Milo Hamilton. I have a soft spot for Milo - he was the recipient of the Ford Frick Award, the ultimate prize for MLB broadcasting, in 1992, and he also called Aarons 715th HR. But it's just sad to listen to him call a game now. He relays the information of what's happening in a game so slowly and so vaguely that it just seems like the entire game is on a 7-second delay.

Regrettably, I live in the ChiSox FoxSportsnet viewing area and I absolutely refuse to watch White Sox games because of Harrelson. If the prospect of Hawk being hung from the scoreboard was ever introduced, I'm sure many people would be enthusiastically screaming, "Put him on the board......yes!!!!"

Chip is annoying, but I can tolerate him when he's with Steve Stone. He seems to talk less. Now, when he was with Joe Carter... Ugh...

Rod Allen. You're right, he does suck. I dislike him even more since he's the guy who replaced my favorite color analyst, Kirk Gibson, when Gibby became bench coach for the Tigers,

Steve Stone is the best announcer I've ever heard, particularly before he retired or whatnot in the late 90s. Put him as the color man with John Miller as play-by-play and I'd watch every game they do.
But that's not what this thread is about. Joe Buck really grates on my nerves. People love to point to him as the best announcer but I just don't see it. Along with Bob Costas, they have this sanctimonious streak to them as if they are above the game and their audience. For instance, in game 7 of the NLCS, he sits there and calls out Cubs fans for going after Bartman (Batman, Barman, whatever). Then he goes after the media for putting too much emphasis on him and creating the problem. Never mind that IT WAS HIS STATION which showed the replay at least 10 times and talked about it the rest of the game yet he never apologized for himself or his station which was the primary culprit.
