Turn on the radio, or just check a news website, and your bound to have the suspense blown of who will win what before it is shown on TV. Errrrrrr....

AGREED!!!

And I'm on the West Coast which is even worse.

Exactly! I meant to rant about this earlier, but what gives? They don't even warn you (If I remember correctly, in 2000, they'd always say "Now here are the results, turn away if you don't want to see them).

Now they actively promote it. Its really sad, and to be honest, it kills the ratings. NBC's gotta be pretty pissed.

Yep, though I've really tried to steer clear of any news sites the last few days.

I seem to remember that, too. I checked the AJC while ago and they not only had the latest on their fron page, but frekin pictures of the medal presentations so that you can't miss it! Stupid gits.

The local stations here in Indy give a 30 seconds warning before giving info and they only talk about it, no pics.

They're pretty nice about it.

I recorded the Phelps/Thorpe matchup which was listed as 2.30 in the morning here (Australia). The next morning, not wanting to wake others up with the tv, I was going through my list of web sites, avoiding the Australian and US sports pages, and logged on to the BBC site (British, surely they're not going to highlight this race). Even so, I covered the centre and right side of the screen with my hand so that I would not see the headlines and only see the list of web pages down the left hand side to click on the soccer page.

Damn me if the BBC didn't have a picture of Thorpe punching the air in celebration on the left of their home page

Worse still, when I came to watch my taped recording I found myself watching beach volleyball - the 2-30 am time was Eastern Australian time and we are two hours behind here :(

I've had to change all of my radio listening patterns to avoid ruining the suspense. No Jim Rome show, no Dan Patrick show, no web surfing to ESPN or anywhere else I usually go during the day except for here, DKBL, and the eNFL. Despite all of those precautions, I still managed to hear about the results of the swim races earlier today from a colleague at work :(

I was thinking the same thing this afternoon when tonight's results were plastered all over the New York Times website.

Are we related?

I've managed to avoid it because I decided to listen to the local Lawrence sports talk (Rock Chalk Sports Talk) which is a really nice little show and they didn't talk hardly any about it. I just changed the station when they did the half hour updates and haven't looked at ESPN much the past few days. This has worked remarkably well.

In that vein, you have to check out the 4x200 relay tonight in the pool. It's as excited I've ever been about any sort of swimming race and that tends to be my favorite summer Olympic sport. To see a race measured in minutes decided by less than a second... I don't want to spoil it but that should tell you how close it was.

I dont know what other stations are carrying the games in the states, but NBC doesnt know what there doing....Today, at 4, I tell my dad the Greece-US game is starting....he changes it to NBC...it's not on, they are showing swimming which happend like 4 hours ago....CBC ofcourse carried it live.....We are lucky in Canada....CBC's coverage of the Olympics is 2nd to none.....If something is happening live, CBC is showing it....When CBC is of the air, TSN is showing live coverage......I really dont understand why NBC must tape delay everything for primetime, it doesnt make sense to me....

It was on live here, too, but on USA network (I believe that was the one).

The basketball games are on USA on weekdays and NBC on weekends. The lowest ratings NBC gets is for basketball, I heard Dick Ebersol today say they lose 40% of the audience when it's on in prime time.

Random thought of the moment, as they were just covering women's gymnastics here.

Once, just once, I wanna see one of those girls go out on the floor with like some rock & roll tunes. Go call up Joe Satriani or something and have him spit out some amazing guitar solo for a routine.

Awesome. I can't wait for the shot put from Olympia. I'll miss the MSNBC coverage that starts in an hour or hour and a half but the finals are tomorrow night and I can't miss that. It's one of the events that I've been wanting to see badly ever since hearing about it.

I think its funny how ESPN posts the results right there on the front page where you can not miss it. That is not for ratings purpose or anything.

I just want to add that I appreciate that the FOFC crowd has been nice enough to not post spoilers for those of us that are even more tape-delayed then the rest.

I figure that would be pretty tastless in a thread about how someone hates spoilers from time delayed Olympics ;)

to be honest, it kills the ratings. NBC's gotta be pretty pissed.

Actually, I think the ratings have been very good - up from Sydney 2000.

Here is my Olympics ESPN tip... Go directly to one of the other sports pages. For example, I start at espn.go.com/mlb and then read the baseball news and then jump to the NFL page.

I do recall one of the girls in Atlanta '96 doing "The devil went down to Georgia." That's the closest I've heard to rock and roll, at least.

or a rap song, Missy Elliott or something

Those girl gymnasts seem like a serious bunch.

The Gymnastics can be hard to follow. It looks like they are totally kicking ass with a bunch of flips and summersaults and the commentator is like "oh, she didn't follow that spin with a prance to the left, that just ruined her routine and her teams chances" Also, the scores look like they are created by a random number generator, but adding a point if the gymnast is from Romania and 1/2 point if they are from Russia. Swimming, for example, is so much easier for my small mind to follow. One guy or girl is winning and the others are furiously trying to catch them. Sometimes its close, sometimes it isn't.

Finally, I posted like a month ago that I didn't believe synchronized diving was a real event and that it was made up by franklinnoble or something. I saw it and it was ok. it seemed more legitimate to me than synchronized swimming.

I've always thought that "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica would be a great song for a floor exercise...

Bah. I had nothing to do with synchronized diving. And the IOC refused to entertain my suggestion for nude women's water polo.
