Well I finally decided to play madden online and I gotta say, its alot better
than last year(which I only played once and lost 52-0, so that might have
something to do with it), probably just the game being better tho. My friend
and I decided we would take turns playing since he can pull out shit plays on
offense and I shut people down on D. We went to the beginners room and
found someone who looked like a good match. He was 11-3 so we went to
the game.
After arguing over what team we wanted(I wanted to vikes b/c of Moss and Culpepper, he wanted the seahawks b/c of alexander) we decided on the Hawks. The other guy took the Colts and I knew my work would be cut out for me. He wins the toss and the 1st play we pick it off. That was easy enough.
I give the controller to my friend and two plays later Alexander is in the endzone for 6. The extra point makes it 7-0 good guys. He asks if he can play D since I made it look so easy so I give in and the colts drive down the field. When they get to the 6 he hands it over to me like I'm supposed to stop them. Needless to say 2 plays later and they were in the endzone. 7-7.
We get the ball and go 3 and out. At this point I begin to realize this guy runs over the middle with harrison from the slot in single back 3 WR almost every play. I decide that with only 2 carries in the 1st quarter I will try nickle on every down with a spy in the middle. The guy goes for 2 incomplete passes on crosses to Harrison on every play. Obviously not one for stategy my friend and I begin to laugh, but even more so when he calls the same shit the next play and I pick it off. 5 plays later and Alexander is in the endzone, however on the extra point the server freezes and messes up the meter resulting in a miss. GRRRRRRRR..... 13-7 good guys.
He comes out with the same shit only this time single back 4 wide. He must be serious now. I switch to Dime cover 1 for the 4 DB's and the LB in the middle being a spy to shut down crosses. I also begin to play bump and run to stop him from doing any short screens to the WR's. He gets a first down, but then throws 3 straight incompletions.
We get the ball planning to maybe finish up the first half with runs and screens. On 2nd and 3 we try and drop it off to Alexander and Harper steps up and makes the pick. He takes it to the house for 6. The XP makes it 14-13 Colts. That was the score at the half.
We talk about observations and easily figure this guy out. He runs Quarters cover 2 on D every play. So we can obviously just run it for 5-7 every play with only 3 men up front, however he's also not covering the corner route so we want to try that out in the 2nd half as well. On O he isn't hard to figure out. Same play, I figure he'll switch to trying shotgun in the second half and get really serious.
With us having this guys game completely figured out he's in some trouble now.
We get the ball to start the 2nd half and after running in on first down for 6 we try a play action with a corner route, 72 yard touchdown. Wow this guy sucks. 20-14.
He comes out and does what he does best, tosses a pick on 2nd down, and yes he was in Shotgun. We run several times for first downs. Why would you run quarters against a team that is running the ball almost every time? And actually stick with it through the 3rd quarter? Well, I guess he figured incase we do pass he's got it stopped, but he's wrong again as another corner route gets over 40 yards. He begins to blitz everyone(still in quarters I might add) and stops us on 3rd and short. Oh well we'll settle for a field goal. 23-14.
We kick off and he only gets it out to the 14. This is bad news for him. He comes out in Shotgun 4 wide(whats new) and we sack him 3 straight times and pin him for 4th down on his one. My friend jokes that he's going for it and he actually does. He drops back and is sacked for the 4th time in a row, safety. 25-14.
By this time it is well into the 4th quarter. We take over with plans of running the clock out. We get a 1st down as it rolls to the 2 minute warning. On 1st down we down it, trying to end this guys misery, only he actually calls a timeout. We run it up the gut again, this time for 63 yards and a touchdown, this is great. Wait a minute, that wasn't Shaun Alexander, that was Maurice fuckin' Morris. And this guy is still running quarters. 32-14.
He gets the ball and once again comes out Shotgun, 4 wide(give it up already man.) After an incomplete pass he hits Harrison on a corner for good yardage, only problem is Harrison gets rocked and drops the ball. On 3rd down Peyton gets rocked as he throws a cross to Harrison and the pass is picked.
