Saw this (http://www.softwareandstuff.com/CES10384.html) early this morning. It looks like a heck of a deal.

Couple of questions, though. Does anyone know anything about SurplusComputers.com or ever ordered from them? Does this look like the poker chip sets that usually sell for at least 80 or 90 bucks?

Bump

Has anyone used SurplusComputers.com before?

I know a guy who has that set. I'd say they are a good deal at that price, but are a long ways from Casino Style chips, if that is what you are looking for.

Those chips are plastic, and apparently weighted with a "Clay Composite", or maybe Clay Composite is just a new way to say plastic.

Oh really? I thought clay composite was quite a bit different than plastic. Granted, I don't know what I'm talking about, but... :)

I was under the impression that casinos used clay chips which are very expensive and that clay composites are meant to be cheaper but are still similar to the clay casino ones.

I have. The delivery was prompt, but I never had to go back to them for any kind of customer service, so I can't say much about that. I bought a cheap computer from them. You'd just be buying poker chips, so I doubt you'd need any additional after-sale service from them anyway.

If you think you'd be happy with these chips, I say go for it.

Nah I have played with that exact chip set a number of times. They are nicely weighted, but you would never confuse them for actual clay chips. It is obvious that the outter "shell" is plastic. They are a cut above my chips though, so I can't really knock them too much, and that really does appear to be a good deal.

That's what I wanted to know, just to make sure they were reputable and everything.

Thanks for all the feedback. I've been wanting to pick up some chips but definitely can't afford the full clay casino chips. Is there anything in between this and the full clay or is this the best without shelling out several hundred bucks for a true clay set?

I have another friend who found some 13.5 gram clay chips(heavier than casino chips) somewhere for on the order of $80. The advertiesment said they had the look and feel of Casino Clay chips. I can't recall the website. I think he may have originally found the link on EBAY. I haven't ever played with them, so I don't know how they worked out. Or for that matter if he actually went ahead and bought them.

Good Luck

Hey that friend of mine, just called me on the phone. The site where he is looking to order his chips is

viptrades.com

He still hasn't bought them, so I don't have a review.

Just checked that out; you can customize your chips with personalized lettering on them. That's pretty sweet. Unfortunately, I don't think I can afford the 13 gram ones, and all the sets look to be 11.5 or lower.

I've looked around for some chips for a while now, and that looks like a pretty nice deal. They might not be top of the line chips but they are certainly well above the full plastic chips that you may see.
