View Full Version : Had my fantasy draft last night....It went badly for me

I have always felt that RB was THE position in fantasy leagues, but I strayed.

My first two backs are Shaun Alexander and Marshall Faulk.

Considering that Faulk is ever so brittle, I landed Steven Jackson to replace him when he is out. I can sorta live with that.

The bigger issue is I waited too long, and ended up with Kevin Jones of Detroit as my third back.

I have two rookie running backs, and one of them plays behind one of my other backs. I'm doomed.

what were you looking for Holmes, Tomlinson and Green?

Who else did you get?

Faulk/Jackson looked at as one back is not that bad.

Alexander is not consistent, but he is an undisputed starter and will give you the occasional 800 yard 17 touchdown game (followed by four weeks of crap.)

Kevin Jones is also an undisputed starter. I would honestly rather him than someone like Duce Staley who may be a better back, but has the Bus looking right over his shoulder. And running backs can have good rookie years.

If you were able to get some top QBs, WRs, or TEs by virtue of not picking RBs 1-2-3, you may have done better than you realize.

Kevin Jones will have a big season this year.

I have to point to Hearst and Barlow in the Mooch offense, they have always done well.

And Gary was placed on IR, so Jones will be the primary back.

heh, I'll trade you my backfield of Edge, Domanick Davis and Chris Perry for your's ;)

Friggin 16 team league's kill the old RB pool very quickly.

Poor baby. ;)

I'll trade my Ahman Green and Chris Brown with Deshaun Foster and Emmit Smith as backups for yours. Then again, I made sure to snag two good QBs because we start 2 QBs in a 12 team league. So RBs aren't quite as important. Not to mention, I also have Torry Holt at WR and Tony Gonzalez at TE so Chris Brown was taken in the 6th round, hence why my 2nd RB isn't that great.

Kevin Jones is a fantastic RB3. You have no worries.

Suck it up, buttercup.

.. Jackson is the 3rd back on the Rams depth chart still isn't he? All I've heard is negative stuff about him, and it's going to be treated like a red-shirt year if it keeps up.

WTF, unless there's less than 10 teams, you did fine. Alexander is a top 6 back and Faulk/Jackson is top 10 material. Kevin Jones is also a solid back and is in my top 20.

I guess the deal is I'm in an 8 team league, and I have essentially three running backs, and one and a half of them are rookies.

I like to be three deep at RB, and last year I left myself similarly bad situation. It was only mitigated by the fact that Priest Holmes was my one good back last year.

Also regarding Kevin Jones. I think he's going to have a good year too. That is why I essentially gambled on him when I could have gotten someone like Eddie George or one of the Philadelphia backs. It is just that right now I have a solid guy, that I used to think was too inconsistent, A guy that is likely too brittle to last the season, and his backup(I hope he isn't 3rd on the depth chart), and an essentially unproven commodity.

Oh and as for the rest of my team.

Def tackle=2pts, assist=1, sack=4, half sack=2, int=5, safety=7(I think)

It is a pretty high scoring league.

Not sure what you've been hearing or watching. Jackson has played well all through camp and has had a solid pre season: 54 carries, 251 yards, 4.6 average.

He's the second back on the depth chart and has been sinse the first week of the preseason.

I dunno Gleng. . . for an 8 team league, that's not a terrific stable of RB's, but it's not horrible either. You should get by.

As far as rookies go, rookie RB's are consistently the highest producing fantasy players. As long as they can hold onto the football and have a chance, they usually produce just fine.

Rookie WR and QB's are a completely different story.

Indeed Jackson has been great. It might not be the right thing to do, but if I was making decisions for the Rams I would just stick Jackson in there and either trade(Miami may jump on that 1) or cut faulk. Ride the young RB's while you can.

I was just going off of what people on ESPN and other sources were saying before that game (i didn't watch it by the by). they said jackson was a liability blocking and doesn't know his plays, but i guess they were mistaken

Fear not, Kevin Jones will be a top 15 back, and a very good number 2 for you.

So Kevin Jones is the guy in Detroit?
I read Artose Pinner is supposed to be the Lions' goalline RB, so I picked him in round 14 of 16 rounds (12-team) to make up for my mistake to pick Arlen Harris in round 5 instead of Steven Jackson.

Did I also go wrong on Jamal Lewis, Quentin Griffin and T.J. Duckett, or are those worthy nr 1-2-3 RBs?

Most young backs struggle with blocking. Steven needs to do that better, no doubt about it. Still, he's running the ball incredibly well. That's what the Rams care about most.

I think you're ok for RBs. Not the greatest, but good. I'd worry more about your QB situation. :)
