Man this sucks...so I found out this past spring that I only have a job until the end of the year. So in April I start sending resumes to every and any job in my field (IT), in a huge radius, one that could even require me to relocate an hour or so north or east. So after sending out and applying to close to I don't know, hundreds of positions, I finally get my first interview (I've had a few other calls, from contract recruiters :( ), 2 hours north of me. So I drive up there, and am prepared for the interview...everything goes well, and then, the dreaded how much are you looking for question. Ok, I work in the Metro NYC area, so I make a bit more then I would in upstate NY...but they're looking to pay like $30G's less then I'm making...damnit...I can't freakin win..this is just getting so damn frustrating....sorry, just needed to vent...

You might want to consider relocating to Northern Virginia. Lots of IT jobs there.

I've considered it, but the wife doesn't want to move away from her family...oh well, got a call today for a phone interview, so maybe things are starting to turn around....

I don't know how much of this you've already tried, but you really have to pimp the hell out of your resume. Put it on Monster.com, and buy the upgraded premium package - it's not that expensive, and it shoves your resume to the top of the heap. This is huge.

Also, be sure to post on other job sites... dice.com is big with technical recruiters. Careerbuilder.com and hotjobs.com are pretty decent, too.

Most metro newspapers will have a resume profile option... use it.

Network as much as possible. Get in touch with others in your field. Talk to recruiters for contract agencies. Contract work is a good way to get by, get experience, and sometimes get hired as a full-time employee.
