Well I'm an Alum, but I can't say I'm a fan. I usually like to laugh at my football team. :D

I really hope Rutgers can have a good year. I'd rather them move into the spot where they're usually 3rd or 4th in the Big East than UConn. Of course, I also hope WVU beats them 80-7 every time they play.

Timmy, are you a WVU alum?

Not without a QB.

PS. Thanks for the link, Logan.

and the sad thing is... MSU could probably whip Rutgers without a QB. :)

Gee.. when I saw a topic saying "Ping: Rutgers' Football Fans".. I thought you were arranging for all of Rutgers fans to be at their home opener... All you need is a VW Bug Right? :D

Goooooo EAGLES! :D

I'm not a WVU alum. I've just been a fan since I was kid cause I was born there and lots of people from my family went there.

I still have Rutgers pegged as a 5-6, 6-5 team. I'll concede though, a win Saturday vs. Mich. State, and suddenly I bump them to a 7-4, 8-3 possibilty (until I see them with a win over a team of Mich. State's caliber, I still have them playing a level below Syracuse, Uconn, and Pitt. A win vs. Mich State, and I can practically see them splitting or even going above .500 within the conference.)

As much as it pains me to say, I think it will be hard to wrestle the Big East from WVU. Personally, I think their preseason ranking in highly overinflated (top 25? definitely...top 10? I have my doubts). They are still the class of the Big East as of now though. Pitt's game vs. South Florida on Labor Day will go a long way on determining how far this young Panthers team can go this year...beating South Florida, I can possibly see 8 or 9 wins. Losing to South Florida, I see 4 or 5 wins tops.

Good luck to Rutgers though. It's always good to see an underdog rise up from the bottom, and I have to give some love to the few teams that stood by the Big East. Although, it was always nice to have Rutgers as a security blanket in the conference, knowing you could never finish last as long as Rutgers was still around :p

RU are getting 6. That is my gambling lock of the week. Take RU and the 6 and walk home with some money.

I am a big fan of RU. Anyone have NCAA that is a spartans fan? I'll play ya online!

MSU's gameplan is to intercept the ball a lot so they can lateral to all of last years running backs now playing D.

how exactly is Rutgers playing at a level below Syracuse? Do on-field results (particularly head-to-head results), count for anyting?

Syracuse had a better record vs better competition last season. Rutgers upset them in a "letdown" game after they lost a close game to WVU and before playing Notre Dame. The way Rutgers got to "a level" (if not more) below Syracuse is by winning only 8 games in the past three seasons (or two more than Syracuse did last season) and not having a winning season since, I believe, 1992.

Like I have said before, I hope Rutgers does well for the good of the conference. They will have to earn their respect, though. They need to have a breakout season (hopefully this year), but last season's 5-7 wasn't it. Until they have that 8 or 9 win season, solid teams are going to look at them as a "W" on their schedules, even after they pull the occasional upset.

What Swaggs said ;).

Though if they become decent, I lose being unique as being from the school which sucks ass in football :(.

This is the best shot Rutgers has of stepping up, though. 19 starters back. The two best programs in the Big East are out. Syracuse has been down the past couple years and Pitt is going to be young. I think Syracuse better get it turned around this year or they could be in trouble.

For the record...if you had Rutgers on the sites that were favorable, and you bet RU every time, you were 11-0-1 ATS like I was last year.

Something to keep in mind.

P.S. I still set the unofficial bet number of wins at 5.5. Anyone who is willing to throw $$$ down on the under, send me a PM.

The BIG EAST insider article made me chuckle at one point.

It points out that Villanova was almost a victim of Temple's spread offense last season.

Wow, you almost knocked off Villanova, pretty impressive. :)

I don't think any posts have been deleted from this thread, and CThomer has no moderation privileges in this forum.

Are you sure you are not thinking of the other Rutger's thread on the front page?
