Long story, but my family and I have been having a ... heated... discussion about who makes McDonald's ketchup. One side is arguing that McDonalds makes it, and the other is that Heinz or Hunts makes it.
Anyone know who actually makes McDonald's ketchup, and could you point us to proof??

It's Heinz.

The closest reference I can find are sites from individuals -- from a make-your-own-McDonalds website, which recommends using Hunt's ketchup if at all possible. But it doesn't actually say that's what McDonald's uses.

Now this site does come out & say it -- That it was Hunt's from the 50's to the 80's and then McD's dropped Hunt's & started making their own "clone" ketchup

I have been under the impression that McDonald's do not make anything - everything is supplied through contractors.

I just got back from McDonalds and I have a packet here. It doesn't specify, it says, "Made in the US for exclusive use by the McDonalds corporation".

Its probably your basic generic ketchup, made by the same people who make your local store brand.

I think Burger King might have a Heinz bottle on the back of their packet. I know one chain does... but not McD's.

I believe a number of chains use Heinz, and it's marked on the packet.

By the way, I just think it's scary that there are people out there actually wanting to duplicate McDonald's recipes.

Everybody and their mom knows Heinz is by far the best ketchup..

Unless they don't.

But it is NOT a matter of opinion.

Edit: fucking punctuation and grammar... :p

Yep our McD's has those packets with the "distribution by McDonalds corp" type wording on it. Thanks for the help. Now to go end this never ending discussion so that I can play some Madden in peace!
:p
Thanks all.

You know I think the easiest way to satisfy a hunger for McDonald's is to get in your car and drive to McDonald's. It's not like there's a shortage of them.

As for ketchup, my friend from Pittsburgh would not eat it unless it was Heinz. It was almost scary how fanatical he was about it.

Edit:

Definintely hit the "Entrez" button on the McD's France site:

For me, that never happens (especially now that we have an In-N-Out Burger in town to satisfy the cheap chain burger cravings).
