so I am required to use LaTeX for a comp sci class. I've been given resources by my professor on how to write the files, so that shouldn't be the problem. The problem is I can't figure out where to write them, or what to write them with.

I downloaded TexLive. When I open it up, I get options for DVI Viewer, and Maintenance. Under Maintenance are options for creating all format files, create missing format files, and create Latex format files. When I try any of these options, it just runs a console app that I dont have any control over.

When I select DVI Viewer, the window opens and I go to File thinking I can create a new file, but it doesn't have that option. It gives me the option to open a file, but I don't know what kind of File I should be looking for (not have I created any files to open yet).

I know there are a lot of resources out there for beginners, but nowhere dO I see anything that says how to get started. Anyone familiar with this that can help me out?

I heard Quicksand relies on Leather and Lace in his class, he's oldschool.
