Most of us have played as the lowly underdogs before. Trying to build up one of the lowest ranked teams, whether it be TCY or NCAA from EA. How many of us havetaken over one of the lowest ranked team (like Troy State) and tried to take them up the standings?

This years Troy season has started as one of those classic computer game turn arounds. Troy scratched out a 6-6 season last year, but was beaten severly by teams in the Major conferences. They're big success last year was their victory over Marshall. This was following the 2002 season that saw three wins (the "powerhouses" Utah State, Florida Atlantic, and Florida A&M).

Now so far in this year (in which they open the season in a 30,000 seat stadium, compared to 17,000 last year and are officially members of the Sunbelt), they have beaten Marshall (who then gave Ohio State all it could handle) and number 17 Mizzou. The team has come a long way in Divsion 1-a in a short time.

So, my question is....is this a computer game? Has someone's fantasy made it on to the real life gridiron? If so, which one of is it? :)

Dola: I know they are supposed to be just Troy this year, but when their official website doesn't recognize it: www.troystate.com (http://www.troystate.com) Why should I? :)

The university formerly known as Troy State was my first extended career in TCY. They were a very good school to pick if you were looking for a challenge (at least in version 1.0) because (1) they had a very bad roster - barely above SC8 quality, (2) they had a bad academic rating, (3) they played in a tough region to recruit from, (4) they played in what was the Independent 7 conference, which had one bowl game opportunity - and Notre Dame usually got it, and (5) they played Miami, Fla every year, which was an almost sure loss.

I added some tough but realistic house rules just to be sure I wouldn't dominate too much.

My first year with this motley bunch I went 1-10, and the team slowly improved. By year 20 I had had three winning seasons (6-5, 6-5, and 7-4; no bowl games for us), had beaten Miami once and Notre Dame twice.

I've always had a soft place in my heart for these guys and I'm glad they're doing well. And no, I'm not running the team from behind the scenes.

I think they were inspired by Ruben Studdard.

I took over Troy State in NCAA 2004 when I first got it, and turned them around way faster than they should have been turned around (though their halfback last year was awesome in the game). I had a roommate who was in the dynasty as Virginia Tech, and he didn't want to turn the difficulty up, so I kept it at the default. I ended up wiping the walls with just about everyone -- including my roommate as VT.
