A work project has me trying to come up with a list of U.S. sporting events that take place between early March 2005 and mid/late April 2005.

So far, I've got:

March/April - NBA regular season
March 4 - March 19 - NCAA Div. I Wrestling Tournament (in St.Louis)
March 13 - April 23 - NASCAR/Nextel Cup (LV,ATL,Bristol,Martinsville,Texas,PHX)
March 15 - April 4 - NCAA Men's College Basketball Tournament
March 19 - April 5 - NCAA Women's College Basketball Tournament
March/April 10th - end of NHL regular season
Early April - start of MLB regular season
April 7-10 - The Masters
April 13th - start of NHL playoffs
Mid-April - ATP U.S. Men's Claycourt Championships (Houston?)

So ... who might have something to add to the list?
Or have I managed to hit most all of the obvious highlights?

And does anybody have a betting site or other site that would have a 2005 calendar of events that might help? I've googled this morning but haven't found much that was helpful outside of one int'l betting link (alas, Euro football isn't what I'm looking for)

Thanks in advance,
Jon

Looks like Feb-end of May is the AFL regular season...

I don't know if you want more regional-type events, but the NCAA hockey tournament/Frozen Four is around the same time as the b-ball tourney. Also, of course, the NFL draft, but that probably isn't the type of thing you are looking for.

Frozen 4 is April 7th and 9th in Columbus.

Isn't the golf world match play championship in March? I could be wrong...

I think it is typically in late February.

However the Players Championship is a big tourney and is in March.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'm taking notes as we go along.

And, just in case anybody revisits the thread, or anybody comes along for the first time now, I'd like to add a second question. Just consider yourselves part of an informal focus group ;)

Think about the events you watch from: MLB, NHL, and NBA
Do you watch more total minutes on
a) National telecasts (NBC,TNT,ESPN, etc)
or
b) Local/regional telecasts (TBS, WGN, FoxSportsNet, other local broadcast outlets)

...WRESTLEMANIA! :-)

Doh!

What on earth could I have been thinking. If there's ever a vehicle I want to attach my client's adv. message to, it'd be the WWE.

Yeah ... when Hell freezes over twice :D

So, are you planning a wedding for spring and wanting to miss the important days? :p

Although that isn't the case, don't laugh too big -- I've known of at least 3 weddings in the past decade that were planned specifically to avoid interfering with UGA football broadcasts. And a couple that were shifted around to avoid opening day of hunting season.

In my case, the need is simpler -- client wants to tie some advertising to specific sports events, my job right is to help him figure out what events are possibilities. And I don't happen to have a current copy of
"The Great Big Book of Every Sporting Event Scheduled Six Months From Now". :(

Did a wedding a couple of years ago were the wholes groom's party gathered around the my mini-tv to watch UGA-Kentucky. Did the ceremony at half-time and watched the Dawgs take complete dominance during the pics. BEST WEDDING EVER!!!

More national. I hate the Braves and while I do like the Thrashers, I also like to watch other teams on ESPN's national broadcasts. I guess, in general, I'm more of a national sports watcher and don't really like to just focus on the local team (for example when I was in Jersey, I never understood those people who just watched the Yankees and the AL East and had no clue about the NL; my best friend is like that, she has no idea of anything in the NL, except the biggest stories).

Are you speaking just about the games themselves? Or are you talking about highlights and other stuff as well?

When you limit it to NHL(watch 0 minutes a year), NBA(watch less than 10 hours a year) and MLB(watch as many Cubs games as I can and the occasional interesting Sunday night game), and again limit it to just games and exclude Baseball tonight, THEN, I watch more local/regional telecasts.

Take away any of those parameteres and my answer would be national, as the only regional broadcasts i watch are the Cubs on WGN.

I probably watch more national just because a) most of my favorite sports teams (San Francisco-based) aren't in the market I live in and b) I like college more than pro, and most of the games are on ABC/ESPN. Of course, there are games on FSN and TBS as well, which I will watch. But basically I watch more national stuff.
