I will give Carolina one thing, hot ass cheerleaders.
And I believe in bad signs, and when Grady Jackson went down for the Pack, my 4 yr old girl looked at me and said "They aren't going to win without him." CRAP!
Good start so far though....GO PACK GO!

That looked like it was likely a pretty bad knee injury. And I suspect he's even heavier than the 350 lbs they quoted him at.

i drive through there, even Green Bay, but I will get up there for a game sometime again. Last and only Packer game I went to in Green Bay was almost 5 years ago (my kid was concieved after Reggie Whites last home game as a Packer). :D
This year though, they play in Houston, and we are going to that game.

That last scoring drive by the Packers looked bad for the Panthers front seven. They were getting manhandled like they did in the 2nd half of the Superbowl.

BS call on the intentional grounding. 2 receivers near the pass, doesn't matter if it won't reach 'em.
Did they change the rule on the offense advancing a fumble? I thought only the guy who fumbled could advance it, other players on offense could just fall on it. That came up last year when Muhammed had a ball knocked out of his hands, bounced back into them, and he ran it in for a score.

Yeah. For such an allegedly dominant front four, they can certainly disappear for large spans of time.

It's now a time related thing (it came up on the last play of the Giants game yesterday - when Manning got 'jacked up'). If it's inside the last 5 minutes (or is it 2 minutes?) then only the fumbler can advance the ball if recovered.

I could be wrong, but I think the rule is that a team can't advance a fumble on 4th down. Although maybe only the player who fumbles can advance it on 4th down, I'm pretty sure anyone can advance it on a normal play.

I looked it up. We're both right.
4. On a play from scrimmage, if an offensive player fumbles anywhere on the field during fourth down, only the fumbling player is permitted to recover and/or advance the ball. If any player fumbles after the two-minute warning in a half, only the fumbling player is permitted to recover and/or advance the ball. If recovered by any other offensive player, the ball is dead at the spot of the fumble unless it is recovered behind the spot of the fumble. In that case, the ball is dead at the spot of recovery. Any defensive player may recover and/or advance any fumble at any time.

I tell you what, I expected a much closer game then this has become. But momentum definetly pushed that Pack ahead and kept them there. Before this game I was all ready to justify a loss as the game being in Carolina, and aginst a damn good team......now I just feel damn good........ :D

Although they were pretty much out out of it, that had to have been the worst 2 minute drill I have ever seen run. Panthers still had a shot, but went for the run up the middle with no timeouts left, good playcall. Also, good to run that no huddle offense but just walk down to the next play. Most teams would've rushed down to the spot of the ball and at least spiked the ball for the next play.
Who hates you?

Smith fractures fibula
by John Tuvey - Senior Editor, Fanball.com
Tuesday, September 14, 2004
Panther wide receiver Steve Smith, who had a breakout season last year with 88 catches for 1,110 yards and seven touchdowns, will miss at least a month after fracturing his left fibula in a season-opening loss to the Packers.
Smith sustained the injury in the with about five minutes remaining in the game, as the Panthers were mounting a late drive. He made a catch and was dragged down from behind by Hannibal Navies as he neared the sidelines. Smith was in obvious pain as he went down and had to be helped off the field.
Panther head coach John Fox said in his postgame news conference that Smith had suffered a fractured fibula. He will be out at least a month, and possibly longer depending on the severity of the injury.
After Smith left the game, Muhsin Muhammad caught a 30-yard touchdown pass on the next play to pull the Panthers to within 10 points. On Carolina's following drive, Karl Hankton took Smith's place and caught two passes.
Hankton will likely see more action in the coming month, as will rookie wideout Keary Colbert, who was inactive for this game. Without their prime downfield target, the Panthers may also have to scrap plans to rely more heavily on the pass and turn to the running back tandem of Steven Davis and DeShaun Foster.

ok well heres an analysis on the game... im the biggest panther fan in the world and ive never seen such a horrible coaching performance. fox and our oline gets the loss here. the dline wasnt dominant but not as bad as people say, green ran good but not great. he was inconsistant after the 1st quarter. delhomme played well but the playcalling was horrible...
now that smith has broken his leg , colbert must step up immediatly. muhammed will do well, and proehl will be fine, but colbert has to go from rookie to veteran fast in his mindset. we definetly need to run more then we did tonite. davis looks slower then last season, but hopefully we can give him some snaps off the rest of the year and run foster and davis at about a 60-40 ratio davis at 60...i think that would work out pretty good, but 13 carries combined... that just throws us off our gameplan ...and forces the D on the field for too long. i gues s thats it... hopefully fox and henning call a better game next week against KC...

The fears about the Panther OL were pretty much confirmed by last night's play. Jake did as well as he could while running for his life most of the night.
I knew Smith's injury was a break when I saw the replay. Lower legs are not supposed to flop back and forth like that. Ouch.
Combining these two bad points, the Panthers will be fortunate to return to the playoffs. It's a dim view after only one game, but if the line can't block at all, the offense can't move the ball. If the offense can't move, it can't score and then it won't matter what happens on defense because the defense can't hold out forever.
Oh, and I don't think Carolina should play on MNF at home ever again. This was their second such game and they've gotten blasted both times. The other time was a 34-21 waxing against San Francisco in 1997. They did win a Monday Night game later that year against Dallas, but that was on the road.
Craptacular

Carolina's D goes from playing one of the best two O-lines in football right to the other. Good luck!
