View Full Version : TCY Version 1.3

Solecismic
09-14-2004, 02:49 AM
Solecismic Software released The College Years, Version 1.3, on September 14, 2004.

This is a minor update to the original game, which was released in July of 2001. We're continuing to update the program simply to thank our customers for their longtime support of Solecismic Software.

The update primarily consists of new schedules matching the college football world as it exists in the fall of 2004. Miami and Virginia Tech have made their way over to the Atlantic. Connecticut has joined the East. And the Sun Belt continues to expand.

In addition, there's a new recruiting magazine, TCY Today, available at the end of each season, ranking each school's raw recruiting performance. This is a change from the other recruiting ratings in the game, which are based on the school's expected performance.

A bug that placed the leader of every division of the two-division conferences into the optional 24-team playoffs has been quashed. The logic for determining Coach of the Year has been tweaked to better emphasize wins and losses, and academic pursuits are slightly less important to recruits when choosing a school (but they're still very important). In addition, a couple of tweaks were made to lessen the ratings difference in players when exported to Front Office Football.

Solecismic Software is a privately held entertainment software company founded in 1998 and dedicated to producing career-play football simulations. You can visit us on the web at http://www.frontofficegames.com.

I've been playing TCY a lot again lately so I'm glad to see it updated. TCY2 does seem a lot less likely now. I think it'll be political with an outside chance it'll be baseball. I'd be happy with either one but happier with politics.

You can continue existing careers after the update, but changes made to city information (names, location changes), team names and conference names are erased.

This update replaces the 1.2a update, issued in 2003. You do not need to install a previous patch before loading 1.3. Nor do you need to uninstall a previous patch. Earlier careers will also remain stable, but the new conference alignments added in 1.3 will create unusual schedules with continued careers.

this is so unlike most companies

update a game that was released so long ago and not charge for the update

thanks Jim!

Thanks a lot Jim for the free udpate. Probably this means that we won't have also a new FOF, mybe just an update for this season. Skydog threads asking about impovements for fof and tcy...probably for next year versions but not this one as Jim wouldn't have enought time to implement them. Let's see then the next Jim's susprisse :)

Thanks for the update though, Jim!

Does this mean the Michigan coach only wins the award 2/3 of the time?

Thanks Jim!

Excellent news !

(even though I can't install the patch right now, because in my current dynasty, I'm playing Connecticut renamed as Yale and I want them to stay independant...I really need to start posting this dynasty some time...)

Thanks Jim!I'm simming some seasons to see which conferences remain strong for the long haul with the changes. After six years:

2008 Walt May Michigan
2007 Walt May Michigan

Thanks Jim. As others have mentioned, this is very cool of you to update the game for free. I'm installing it on my laptop tonight.

I also agree with those who are a little disappointed that a full blown TCY2 probably isn't the next game to be released.

I'd be excited for a political sim, however. I think Jim would do a great job with one of those.

While this repeated discussion has been fun (I really have been enjoying it :)), Jim really needs to let everyone know about whatever the new game actually is. What was fun for the last couple of months is starting to get annoying.

I'd just like to know IF there is going to be a TCY2 at this point or not? How does the MP league that I'm in (where we use TCY players) prepare?

Well I agree with the Draft grades (alas they will flame me for picking a punter in the 2nd round, my grade will be lowered because of this; although it was a good pick !)

As for the green page, I think it is the league wide's consensus no ?

Someone needs to quick finish a season and export the draft class.

Remember last time Jim updated TCY, it was to make it compatible with FOF4. And even the draft class file name reflected that. Could be that this is preparing for a new FOF?

Anybody? (I'm at work)

Franklinnoble
09-14-2004, 12:12 PM
I'm guessing a new FOF is a very strong possibility here.

It sort of makes sense. I think Jim developed the FTP client to work with some multiplayer game, and if it were integrated with the next version of FOF, it would make online league play a little easier.

No. Different teams see a different green page. We found that out at some point last season.

Among the more amusing new bowl names from Jim in this patch:

Fair and Balanced Bowl in Washington, DC
Benifer Bowl in Los Angeles, CA
Smoking Cessation Bowl in Winston Salem, NC
Forged Document Bowl in San Francisco, CA
Amber Frey Bowl in San Jose, CA
Swift Boat Bowl in Boston, MA

It also appears that Jim has taken liberty and taken away the automatic BCS berth of the Big East.

OK, so this is making me want to give TCY another shot. Problem is that I erased the game from my hard drive awhile back. I still have the reciept from e-license, so that part won't be a problem...I just need to find where to download the .exe. Anyone know where I can get that?

Oh, and I'm guessing that it's probably somewhere in the All Inclusive thread, but I haven't looked there yet...

Is the demo for TCY still the 2 weeks of the season one, or is it a unlocked version that expires in 3 days. I remember trying the demo a few years back, and not liking it all that much, but was thinking about trying it again. But only if its the 3 day type of demo.

Tom Tupa... the ultimate double-threat.

It's a brilliant pick... until you realize that you can't start a punter at QB in FOF2k4. Maybe Jim can make this doable in an upcoming version...

For those curious who are reading:

- there are no additional export options after Front Office Football 2004
- the TCY Today Recruiting Rankings is a simple list of schools in order of Recruiting Class

Sorry, uh, back to "work"

Did anybody notice that in Week 1, USC doesn't play Virginia Tech. Why was that game excluded?TCY only supports 11 game schedules for any team not named Hawaii. Since the VT-USC game was a pre-season 'classic', it makes it easy to decide that's the game to drop to get the teams down to 11.

I didn't get the new bowl names and my colleges didn't revert back to Evanston, Central Houston, South Bend, etc. like they had in previous updates. Is something wrong with my update? It does say in the about section that it is 1.3-CD.
