You know what's sad...I didn't even realize until this morning when I was putting the teams together what I had done here. Silly JAG. Sorry for you Easterners who voted for Mr. Milner.

ZFL East Coach (Knoxville Rednecks): "Although we're fortunate to have a great QB like Thumbless Jackson throwing for us, I think our team's greatest strength will be running right at the heart of the West team. We've got the premier running back in the game on our side with Rajah Saleem and two incredible guards with Tom Sanders and Fort Sumter Jackson. We're gonna take it to the Military Middle like no team has ever done. On defense, we plan to bottle up Sizzlack's favorite receiver The Cheat by sticking Odysseus on him all day long and let Superman roam around to make plays. This is our year to break the West’s hex.

ZFL West Coach (San Antonio Margaritas): "This game'll be a cakewalk and I'll tell you why: our offensive line. We're gonna blast open huge holes for Dirtpounder and let league MVP Sizzlack's favorite protector Ralph Wiggum keep him upright against Atlantis and Another Atlantis. On defense, we're gonna win with our pash rush. No way can the East tackles handle All Pro and "Spiderman" McGwire. Once we get a lead and watch them play catch-up, Thumbless is gonna hit the turf hard.

Good luck to both sides, I'll have the game up ASAP.

Bipto and McCormick with Ray Lewis behind em? You're getting 1 rushing yard. Total.

Let's just say Billy wouldn't have made the cut in the West...how did they end up with all the tackles anyway?

Go figure.

ZFL Pro Bowl

The West opened up the game on offense at their own 20-yard line with the East coming out with their athletic front four looking to do some damage. But the West wasn’t going to get ‘athletic’ with the front…they were just going to run them over. On the first play of the game, Eric Flamebeard took DT No Name Necessary to school and carved out a good hole for Lothar Dirtpounder as he reeled off 8 yards. Next play: run to Ralph Wiggum’s side, where he flattened Another Atlantis and Dirtpounder went for 6 yards and the first down. They mixed things up again with a run behind Freddie Prinze Jr. who had easily handled Atlantis on the play, but OLB Superman swept in and kept Dirtpounder’s gain to two yards. On 2nd and 8 from the West 36, Sizzlack faked a 4th straight handoff and turned to hit The Cheat, but had to back off as he had been run out of bounds by Odysseus. Sizzlack, with time, turned to his second option and watched as Manfred von Richthofen burst behind CB Deion Jackson who was slow to turn his hips in pursuit. Sizzlack let one fly to Richthofen who snagged it one-handed and was forced out-of-bounds after a 36-yard gain by a sprinting Jackson. Sizzlack hit The Cheat on a quick out but Odysseus landed a crunching blow and the West had only a 5 yard gain. On the next play, the West struck with a big gain on the ground as Dirtpounder followed a pair of great blocks from Lone Star on Hera and fullback Rashaan Salaam on El Capone and then turned on the jets to score on a 23-yard scamper up the middle. West draws first blood, 7-0.

The East offense came out and tried to respond immediately. On their first play, Thumbless dropped back 5 steps and launched a long ball to favorite target Jackson Jackson. Jackson had a step or two on Master Hu Li and hauled in a 42 yard bomb from his signal caller. On the next play, they handed off to Rajah Saleem and sent him up the middle behind Tom Sanders. But All-Pro slipped his block from Keith “Slap” Slapinski and disrupted the run, giving Ray Lewis a clean shot at Saleem. Lewis flattened Saleem and the ball flew out of his hands and was pounced on quickly by Toby McGwire.

The West, on offense again, went back to their running game. Dirtpounder continued to have success against the smaller East front and Sizzlack mixed in some play-action passes to keep Superman from keying solely on Dirtpounder. The drive stalled when Odysseus made an athletic grab of a ball thrown for The Cheat.

The East went back to the running game and ran Rajah up the middle, but Ray Lewis charged hard and flushed the play outside, where All Pro made a solid tackle for a loss. A sack from McGwire, an incompletion to Bruce Spinner, and a good tackle of Master Hu Li on Jackson Jackson resulted in a 4 and out for the East.

Taking over with good field position, the West came out in their running formation except with Rashaan Salaam split out wide. The East sent El Capone to cover him rather than taking Superman off of the central run defense spot. Bad move. Sizzlack faked the handoff to Dirtpounder which froze Superman, then threw a quick dart to Salaam. The powerful fullback broke a tackle from Capone and rumbled down the field. Odysseus broke off his man and tried to save the touchdown, but couldn’t reach Salaam in time. 38 yard completion from Sizzlack to Salaam and a 14-0 West lead.

Things were looking bleak for the East, but Saleem helped turn things around. On a 3rd and 5 from the East 42, he took a handoff up the middle behind Tom Sanders and Fort Sumter Jackson. The powerful guards knocked the Military Middle off the ball and opened a seam for Saleem. He hit the seam and cut sharply in front of Ray Lewis. Lewis had done a pretty fair job on Rajah to this point, but he couldn’t quite make the grab on Saleem this play. Saleem broke two more tackles (Kearney and Patrick Bates) on his way to a sensational 58 yard TD run that had the East whooping and hollering on the sidelines. Rejuvenated, the defense held the West offense to only one first down as the half finished with the score 14-7 West.

At the start of the third, the East decided once again to look for the big play, with Thumbless dropping back to find Jackson Jackson on a repeat of their earlier long completion. This time, they weren’t so fortunate. JJ got held up on the line by Master Hu Li and the timing for the play was off. Thumbless had to wait a couple of extra seconds to find a receiver, but got blasted from behind by All Pro and lost his handle on the ball (recovered by Saleem however). The East couldn’t get anything going and gave the West great field position. Sizzlack was all too happy to play a complimentary role as Dirtpounder followed his offensive line as they reeled off gains of 4, 8, and 9 yards on his way to his second TD of the day, giving the West a 21-7 lead.

The East pulled themselves together and reeled off two straight completions to JJ of 13 and 11 yards, and picked up another first down on a 15 yard scamper by Saleem. On the West 45, Thumbless dropped back to pass but was dropped quickly by a surging Toby McGwire for a 9 yard loss. That total proved to be too much to make up and the ball went back to the West.

The West sensed the game was theirs and went almost completely to the ground game. The East’s defensive front was starting to look ragged under the constant pounding from the Western Front and Dirtpounder had no problem running for first down after first down, stopped from long gains only by Superman's tireless efforts. Finally at the East 2 yard line to start the fourth quarter, after a 9+ minute drive, Sizzlack handed off to Salaam who pounded the ball in behind a Prinze Jr. block of Atlantis for the third rushing TD of the day and the West led 28-7.

At this point, the East was forced to give up the ground game and look to their main passing game target of Jackson Jackson to keep them alive. It was not meant to be for the East though, as the relentless pressure from All Pro and Toby McGwire kept Thumbless from having the consistency he needed to complete his passes. In addition, Ray Lewis’ excellent coverage in the middle of the field meant Thumbless had no easy outlets for his passes. The results were sacks, incomplete passes, and a generally ineffectual offense. The West cruised through the fourth quarter and the game ended with their victory; a 28-7 stomping of the East in the biggest margin of defeat ever for a ZFL Pro Bowl. It was hard to overlook the contributions from All Pro and Toby McGwire on defense, but the impressive play of the offensive line completely neutralized some of the best defensive linemen in the league, and so the Pro Bowl MVP award was shared by all four members of the West squad’s offensive line. Congratulations to the West, once again simply the best.

I’ll be making a new thread a little later outlining some changes for next season and then we’ll go to the moment you’ve all been dreading: offeseason injuries.
