EHM: I get too many penalties

I'm playing with Phoenix and I'm getting frustrated with my team. I played through a full season on 1.0.3 and led the league in PIM's by A LOT. I've started a new career under 1.0.5 and I'm once again spending way too much time in the box. I seem to average about 7 penalty kills per game.

Is there a setting or tactic I could use to stop my team from ending up in the box so much? Or do I just have a bunch of goons out there? I haven't changed my team orders at all from the defaults, except to play man defence (and I had the same problem under zone defence). Any thoughts?

Check your board play and checking settings. If either of these are elevated and you have guys with high aggression, you will take penalties.

What are your coaches ratings?

Hard hitting with high pressing using guys with high aggressiveness was what was killing me. High pressing means players will hassle opponents longer and risk taking a penalty.

Take a look at who's getting the penalties. If you have an undisciplined player (Jarkko Ruutu), get him out of there.

Backchecking = Normal
Pressing = Normal
Hitting = Normal
Boardplay = Mixed

As for the coaches, they aren't all that great. Which ratings would effect something like this? My head coach (Rick Bowness) has a 14 for both coaching forwards and defensemen.

As for aggression ratings, what would be considered high? 15+?
