The "John Thompson show" (worst sports radio program I have ever heard) just reported that the story making the rounds among the media is that the exchange which precipitated the chair throwing brawl went something like this:
Idiot Fan says to bullpen: "Which one of you losers is going to blow this game"
Doug Brocail: {unspecified witty remark involving Mrs Idiot Fan and blowing}
So, I am left to ask - which one of you is Doug Brocail?

Is this John Thompson of Georgetown fame? He has quite possibly the worst voice in the world. How the hell does he get a radio show?

Don't know, but its on every day, 3-5, simulcast on the two local sports radio stations. Its just terrible.

Even if I am done with my work at 4:30, I wait until 5 to leave so not a minute of my commute is spent with his show on the radio...

It's a local show from the ClearChannel sports station out of DC. And yes, it's dreadful.

I remember hearing Thompson on TNT doing the NBA pre and post games. I swear it was virtually impossible to understand him. It's amazing he was able to recruit so well.

Ok.. since this has already been threadjacked for this...
John Thompson is terrible. I can get the station down here in Norfolk (go figure, AM is weird) and I will listen to freakin' Dr. Laura rather than listen to him. I am quite happy the days that he is out and it is Al Cokin and Doc Walker without him - they are actually not that bad. The Sports Reporters that come on after him are SO much better and they are not even that great...
He does bring in big stars for interviews considering it's a local sports talk show. Of course, the softball questions he gives them is worse than no interview...

wait.. there is more to it than softball..
the questions make no sense... he jumps from topic to topic...
An example of an interview he might have:
LaVar Arrington: "I think the defense played well. The blitzing schemes confused Brad Johnson and he never got comfortable in the pocket."
Thompson: "Yes yes. So, who do you think is going to win the WSOP?"
LaVar Arrington: "Uhh... I hear Chris Money Maker is good"
Thompson: "*mumble* *mumble* That Allen iverson, he sure is good, isn't he?"
-------------
etc etc... there is just no logical flow at ALL...

The mumble, mumble part made me laugh out loud. That's exactly how I remember him.

very true. I didn't want to go into details, but your example pretty well nails it. And his "joe the fan" takes are even worse than the interviews.
I keep the radio tuned to 980 all day, but turn it off at 3 pm every day now.

Not to digress too much, but I'm not a Cowherd fan either...
But I cannot listen during the day at my job for the most part.. so I don't have to worry about that...
And luckily I prefer Thompson's competition on WJFK anyways...

Same here. Since I was a big Tony K fan, I hate Cowherd, but I listen anyway - I am that desperate for anything to aleviate the boredom at work. Thompson, however, I turn off.
Wade, I actually have come to dislike Doc Walker as much as Coach Thompson, so I even turn it off on the days Thompson is out.
I don't like Cowherd either, but I haven't reached the point of actually turning the radio off yet. (Although I definitely haven't ruled that out as a future option)

I once e-mailed him, which he read on the air. At the end of the e-mail I wrote "You suck, we want Tony back." Colin read it, then said it was from "Rob in Northern Virginia, who listens every day."
So, not only is he awful, he has misrepresented me to a national(?) audience.

Huh. I like Cowherd. I only get to hear about 20 minutes of him 2 or 3 times a week, though. Kornheiser annoys the hell out of me, and I'm glad I don't have to pick between him and Rush.
For pure awfulness, Erik Kuselias is the winner. I regularly switch to the 2 bumbling local idiots instead of listening to him.
