Now that the results are posted, may I ask my fellow voters why an overtime loss on the road to a team that has a net rating of 3 deserves a 5 spot drop to #12?
I've never understood that.

Their offense managed to score 3 points.
Either Miami is that good or Florida State is not that good. I don't consider them a top 10 team based on that performance. But of course that can change as early polls by competant people tend to have wild swings.

I can understand that. But then why is Miami #3?

I assume you are asking why Miami is ranked so high at #3? Probably reputation and they did beat a good football team. Even though Florida State didn't look that inspiring they should be a good football team.
My own personal preference is not to bother ranking teams until they have 4 games under their belt with the assumption that even the teams that yearly schedule cupcakes might get tested a little bit in one of them. But this is for fun anyways.
I think the Top 10 isn't too far off with the exceptions of California (shame the Southern Miss game was postponed) and maybe West Virginia (they will get tested against Maryland with whom they always have problems)
Michigan's drop isn't too surprising as Notre Dame was absolutely demolished by BYU their previous game.

I kept Miami the same in my poll despite having Michigan lose ahead of them. I moved other teams ahead of them. Neither Miami or Florida State looked all that great and beatable. It's hard for me to punish them from losing, but I wouldn't rank them higher on that performance.

Yeah, the poll isn't that bad in my opinion. I have issues with:
1.) The 9 spot gap between Miami and Florida State, as discussed.
2.) Texas too high at #5.
3.) West Virginia way too high, first place vote seems silly to me. Cal too high.
Of course, all opinions are equally valid at this point. I also wouldn't rank teams until October if I had my way.

Well the gap should close if Florida State beats some of their ACC brethern, it's a pretty strong conference this season. Miami I would assume is pretty well stuck where they are unless/until the other two lose.
Personally I put Florida State out the top 10 not because they are not a top 10 team but because others won and deserve to move up.
HFP - I don't know how to answer you but after watching the game over for the fourth time I fully believe Florida State made Miami's defense look alittle better then they actually our.... Not to say Miam's defense isn't one of the Top 5 or 10 in the country but I saw alot of things on tape that would have been touchdowns for Florida State had it not been for a number of things( Oline breakdown, QB play, etc...) Miami and Florida State believe it or not have a very good chance of playing each other again... Although for now I say a Big-10 or SEC team will win the national title.

I understand Noop, I was just saying that based on that one game which is the only one I have seen of Florida State that it was not a top-10 team in the country performance. Not to say that Miami looked like a dominant powerhouse either... so who knows right now?

I watched 2 teams without A Quarterback, I don't care how good the defense are, they win a bunch of games in dominating fashion and i'll give em respect, I don't respect either of those 2 teams i saw on Friday night.
Defense wins championships... In my opinion if Florida State can gather its self they are a top-10 team but that will be hard to show based on the face they have a good schedule and dont play any powerhouses other then Miami.

in response to the huge drop by Michigan:
I like seeing you lose and frankly you don't deserve to be in the top 25 if you can't be that pathetic Notre Dame team....
