View Full Version : Week 3 NFL- Thoughts
A few good matchups today.... looking forward to the Green Bay/Indy game. All I'm asking from the Lions today, is a close game.....
Go Lions.....

Oh man. KC's offensive line looks pissed. They're just crushing Houston's front. Oh, and Priest, who might not play, well, he's got something like 30 yards already.

Tony Gonzalez, inbetween 3 guys. Touchdown, Kan-sas City. They just manhandled the Houston defense that series.
I'm not saying this is what's going to happen, but I've seen them come out looking like this before. It has all the looks of one of those games where KC just blitzes the other team and it's salted away before the half. But who knows- lots can change that (turnovers, etc).

The Vikings entire kicking game is just plain ugly this year.

looks like the lions are coming back to earth. McNabb abused their D on that last drive.
The Browns are looking pretty bad....

Yes they do. And while I'm not a big fan of him, they need Rosenthal when Adam Haayer is the alternative.

I disagree. The Eagles drive was basically one big play where a middle linebacker was matched up with a wideout. Then there was two shitty pass interferance calls and a QB sneak for a TD. I wouldn't call that abuse.
The Lions look way outclassed by the Eagles.

The Browns are looking pretty bad....
They're looking terrible. The Giants are looking alright, getting some good special teams play to keep the Browns pinned back.
man.... I was trying to hold off until after football to start drinking.... the Lions are making that really hard....
so can I say that McNabb is abusing the lions yet? 16-18 for 204 yards and 2 TD before the half seems like abuse to me

the Browns look T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E.
Every time they've even thrown a pass, it's under 5 yards.
Garcia is currently 2/6 for 5 yards. 6 minutes to go in the half.

IMO, a bad call during the KC game.
The guy probably never heard the whistle. I know I didn't.
The Jacksonville offense is pathetic. Leftwich just isn't doing anything. 0 points in the first half... :(
And yet, once again, the Jags are winning. They almost remind me of the Panthers last year, although more disfunctional on offense and maybe not as good on special teams.

Unfortunately the Giants play not only boring games, but long ones. I don't even have the hope of this game ending early and coverage switching to another game.
Warner just ran for a TD, that should be the knockout punch in this game.

I can argue with 10 for 20 with a interception and two fumbles lost. I'm not saying Vick stinks, but he does get fustrated way to easy. He needs to learn to think "pass first" or he is never going to develop any further.

Okay Denny Green let me get this straight. You preach ever since you got the Arizona job that McCown is your QB, dont draft an elite one when given the chance to prove your point, then bench him in the third game after he has his best performance of the season going 20/26 for almost 200 yards. Nice Denny that will help with his confidence.
That was one ugly game though. I have to say the Cards defense has been impressive, which I'm not sure I've ever had the occasion to say.

Your defense looks good, and I really think Denny shot himself in the foot pulling McCown. First, he might have won the game with McCown in there the last couple of series. Second, he may have messed up is confidence in the long run. Dumb, dumb, move.

Yup. He didn't look good. McCown made same great throws and really handled the pressure well. He used his feet to actually throw the ball. He did have three fumbles which had to be why he was benched. To be fair, though, I'd only blame him for one. The other two were just great defensive plays (the play were Brady Smith blindsided him was just amazing).

Only if you make some adjustments to the "NFL game engine," I think the Colts first half was a little unrealistic as far as the passing stats-rushing stats go.

Arizona should have won that game.True dat, but hopefully it'll take a while. The Falcons are going to have to get a solid receiver corps to make this thing work. However, a .659 winning percentage in his first 22 NFL starts is nothing to sneeze at, particularly with that supporting cast on offense. The Falcons need to hire Franco Harris to teach him to run out of bounds a bit more, though. :p

this might have been the opening Collins needed, although I don't think Collins' play has looked as good as his stats do. He's sailed a number of passes out of bounds, and has gotten away with a couple of bad passes into coverage.

Yeah, he is fortunate that the Bucs DB are playing with stone hands. However, he has been much more effective than Gannon has been.

My fantasy team with Javon Walker thanks the NFL for this game ;)
SI
so how did you like them revoking 3 yards from him at the end to 198? my brothers league only gets points for yardage per every 100, so he was obviously pissed.

Is everyone safely aboard the Seattle Super Bowl bandwagon now?
They appear to be this year's 3-0 bandwagon team. Last year it was the Chiefs.

Interesting day in the NFL. Jacksonville is looking like Baltimore in 2000 (remember the span of 5 games where there was no offensive TDs from that team?), but lost in that game is Chris Brown became the first RB to run for over 100 yards against Jacksonville in like 17 games. Brown has run for 100 yards in all 3 games so far and looks like he's going to be a GREAT one!
And damn, did I wish I put Walker in on one of my fantasy leagues :(.

Without having seen them yet, I'm not sold on them.
Philly on the other hand appears to be playing with a level of ugrency beyond anything I've seen out of them previously (including playoff games). With most of the NFC looking shakey, I think they are the clear-cut favorites to represent the conference.

I think Taylor has actually made it through at least 2 seasons without missing any games. His groin finally seems healthy.

Agreed, although the Eagles haven't had the toughest schedule to start out the year. If they don't get a boatload of injuries, which essentially is the only reason they didn't make the Super Bowl last year, they should make the Super Bowl.

Uhm, they had a pretty solid win over the Vikings, which is probably considered one of the top 3 NFC teams right now by most people I think. (as much as I hate to say that, but my Packers D keeps them from being up there)

I think it's worth noting that all 3 of their wins are against 2-1 teams. The fact is, they've techincally played a very tough schedule so far.

I'll give them that one, although they were at home and so I would expect them to win, but their other two games were against the Giants and Lions, neither of which I would consider powerhouses despite 2-1 records. Anyway, as I said, I wouldn't be surprised by a Super Bowl appearance for them (barring a string of bad injuries) and probably 12+ wins for good measure.

Yeah, not too much I could disagree with there. Although I seem to be more against the Eagles now then previous seasons, must be T.O. So I will be hoping someone will knock them off again.

1) I keep hearing people rip on Vick, but all he does is win. The one downside with him is that I think he plays to the level of his competition too often. Still, he hasn't had the greatest offensive cast around him and when he's been in there the Falcons have won a lot of football games.
2) The Chiefs are simply horrible.
3) Jax will improve on offense as the season progresses. I think it's very similar to the Panthers last year. (as others have said) If the defense keeps it up, that team will be VERY dangerous as the season progresses.
4) Philly and Seattle are the class of the NFC right now.
5) Culpepper is simply on a roll right now. He looks so comfortable in the pocket. Incredible.
6) So Kurt Warner sucks and can't throw it in a conventional offense: 57-88 (64%) 721 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT. 94.0 QB rating. With one of the worst offensive lines in the league. Yeah. . . he sucks.
7) I love Quentin, but when Tatum Bell gets healthy, he'll have the full time Denver Bronco running back job. Another Bronco note: Ashley Lelie is finally coming into his own. He's played extremely well this year.
8) Sunday, October 31 - Indy at KC. Monday, November 7 - Minnesota at Indy. Buckle your seatbelts.
9) The Dolphins have the worst offense I've ever seen.

I must have missed this injury while flipping through 57 games at a time. Too bad if this is the case.
Officially, the Bears are saying franchise quarterback Rex Grossman has a sprained right knee and will undergo an MRI today. The real fear is he will be lost for the season.

(and for that comment, the HNIC will probably put me in the Penalty Box. You can't say anything negative about the great Mr. Excitement and the worse 3-0 team ever in the history of the NFL. :p )
A) Don't get me wrong. I think Vick will be a top 5 QB in the league in the not too distant future. The 49ers game showed what he can do when he thinks pass first. I just think there are games when he gets out of his game-plan.
B) Not even the worst 3-0 team this year, much less history. This team will be a playoff team. I'm really coming around on Mora and staff. The O-line will only get better as the season goes on, and the defense is going to stay good (though not to the level they are playing right now.)

It's official. According to a release on the team's Web site, "The Bears' worst fears were realized Monday when an MRI exam confirmed that Rex Grossman ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Sunday's loss at Minnesota and will miss the rest of the season."

If Seattle ever get's their offense going, they can challenge Philly. Right now I think a NFC championship between the two would be interesting indeed as Seattle has the secondary to at least (I hope) limit T.O. and still maintain decent coverage on the rest of the receivers. Would come down to containing McNabb's running, and which offense shows up for the Seahawks. Best part is, our D will get better once Chad Brown is healthy and ready to go.
That said, I don't think the Vikings are going to go quietly, so much may come down to having home field advantage which could be the Vikings doom.

The teams who don't take the backup position seriously (Bears) almost deserve to have this sort of stuff happen.

I'm extremely disappointed in the Bengals this season. Not because of the record, but because they just look so much worse than last season. Somehow the defense is even worse and Palmer isn't accomplishing anything near what Kitna did last season. It could be another long season for Bengals fans...

I don't recall many 14-2 predictions, but I don't think it was unresonable to predict an improved team. Right now they seem to have regressed in mos ways which I certainly didn't predict. While you're at it though you could dig up those posts from people predicting the chargers might not when two games all season "or some bullshit."

And what happened to the Titans. They have just fallen apart at the seams. They didn't get hit by the injury bug but a full scale plague down there.Maybe time to trade McNair or even Mason since next year is it for both and resigning them is very slim.I would say they should start looking at retooling. But boy what a run Fisher had with them. They were the winningest team in the last decade I do believe.I guess the fall can be attributed to the Nfl as it is and free agency.
