Oakland quarterback Rich Gannon has a broken vertebrae in his neck that will sideline him at least six weeks.

I am very impressed that Gannon was able to walk off the field. I broke a vertebrae in my lower back and couldn't stand until getting a lot of painkillers and valium. Then the next day I couldn't even get out of bed. It took two paramedics and two cops to lift me out of bed and get me into the ambulance. The pain from a broken vertebrae is so bad that I wouldn't wish it on anybody. Time to retire Rich. Don't risk it. My back still isn't right 3 years later.

At least Collins isn't that bad... so the Raiders aren't in a horrible position (well at least not from this ;)).

EDIT:Who am I kidding? I'd have dropped to my butt if Derrick Brooks looked like he intended to hit me.

That was a nasty hit. I don't know why he lowered his head when it looked like he saw Derrick Brooks coming.

I was astonished to see Gannon go head-first into that tackle - I thought for sure he'd slide feet-first to avoid getting hit. I'd never wish that (or any other) injury on anyone, but it really looked like that injury was his own fault. Could've, and should've, been easily avoided.
Edit: head-first isn't the best description of what he did, but you know what I mean.

Anybody know any QB's Available on the free agent market for the Bears? The only two I can think of are Tim Couch and Ryan Dinwidde. :S

That clip could be used throughout the nation to teach players how not to prepare for contact.

I wonder if the Dolphins have considered trading Fiedler and Feeley for RB's, then going with a 3 back backfield and just scrapping having a QB all together. Run the 5 man line, load up with 3 tight ends, a pair of RB's and a FB. Could even have a triangle backfield where the other two guys just each grab a leg and slingshot the ball carrier over the line of scrimmage, could be a consistant 4 yard gain type offense.

re: Huards, Brock at the very least is out for the year, he was placed on IR by the Seahawks.
The other one, well, he might be backing up Dickenson in the CFL by this point, oh wait, Dickenson is backing up too, HAHAHA!

not a bad idea...except what kind of RB do you think they'd get for a couple of 3rd string QBs?

I'd think that the Bucs might listen to offers for Brad Johnson. And he might not cost much. Griese too. And Todd Collins knows the offense, but KC probably wouldn't give up their backup. Jeff George would cost nothing and he's easily better than Quinn. Hell, Drew Brees would absolutely love to get out of SD...

I'd try for some player who langusihes ona bench but had shown flashes. You don't want to elevate a random nobody (Like Mike Quinn or something). Anthony Wright, Shaun King, (Batch is injured, right Pitt fans?), and so forth.

Batch is out for the season. Shaun King has shown flashes but can look really bad at times. I honestly think Jeff George would be a good fit.

Now how about Chicago deals with Philly. A-Train for Jeff Blake and a conditional 3rd rounder.

Chicago signed Chad Hutchenson.
It was a brilliant move by the Raiders to pick up Kerry Collins. There was no way Gannon was going to play 16 games this year without getting hurt. It was just a matter of time. Collins and the Raiders O-line looked very good last night. Gallery completely shut down the rush on the right side.

Why would Philly want the A-Train?

Why would Philly want the A-Train?
Who do you have behind Westbrook? Thomas would be a damn good backup, and you could use a former 1,000 yard backup RB more than a former 20 pick 3rd string QB. But the question is moot. As we have seen, Da-Bears have signed their next QB capable of throwing 20 picks!

I just don't see the A-Train as a good backup. In any case, the point is moot. :)
Edited to add: I'm not saying he wouldn't be an ok backup for some team, but I don't see him fitting in Philly's offense.

I think that is a good description. It's like his brain said 'slide', but at the last second he naturally leaned into it. Quite an awkward hit. I'm glad that you could hear Derrick Brooks (who was mic'ed up) say "I hope he's OK." It's good to see someone who wants to compete all-out, but doesn't want anyone to get hurt.

I hate the bucs, but Brooks is class.
