Anyone get this game yet?
While I was at the local EB by my house, I noticed this game is apparently out. It's for all 3 consoles, I noticed - I'm assuming the XBOX version is the better looking of the 3.
I haven't gotten around much to reading any reviews - though I'm surprised a game like this went by relatively quiet. I did see a commercial for it (just once), and I thought this was still under development, but apparently it's out and about.
I know my buddy is pretty excited about it, and decided to take the plunge and check it out, but I figure somebody out there must've gotten their hands on this, and can post some impressions at the least.

I've been playing it since the day it came out.
I like it. It's an action RPG, like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. You eventually have 15 X-Men to play with. The story is interesting. It's a bit of a button masher, for me. I'm not sure how far I'm into it, but I am 17 hours or so in and most folks say it runs about 20-25. Other than deciding to level up your characters differently, I don't see much in replay value. There have been a lot of folks asking if you can go through the game a 2nd time with all of your X-Men once you beat it, but no one has confimed that from what I've seen.
I do like the game. I was really looking forward to it and I'm not disappointed. At the very least, it's worth a 7 day rental. You could beat it in that time.
I'm willing to answer specific questions.

I read about the gameplay, being akin to Dark Alliance and Norrath (sp?), but I've never really played either. Are there any videos of in-game play out? I've only been able to find CGI animation sequences and cut-scenes.
My friend's been really curious about it - I imagine he's already picked it up, but I'm considering doing the same thing. Is it all entirely mission based? An Action-RPG of this title sounds promising and all...and I'm assuming it's nothing like the old arcade game of X-Men.

Gamespot has a view videos, a dozen or so.
It is mission based, mostly linear. There is a part where you have 3 different missions to choose from, completely one, you get to choose from the other 2, then you do the last one.
It is similar to the arcade game. There's a lot of fighting and using special powers, just from a top down view, not a side scrolling view.

Ahh... so it's like the NES X-Men. Gotcha. ;) I'll go rent it right away.

Well, I caved in and bought into the game. Apparently, the guy who was working the counter at the local EB was a bit "so and so" on it, in the sense that he wasn't sure if he would plunk down $50 for the game. He didn't get around to playing the demo or anything like that, but eh.
I'm pleasantly surprised by this game, actually. The only questions I really have, and I couldn't find it in the manual anywhere, was if there was an option to "block" or "defend" attacks manually, and targeting..

I don't think there is a block like you're looking for.
For the characters with range attacks, I think there is targeting when you hold down the R1 button, but I don't know if you can switch it from target to target.

I was wondering about that. I was hoping for some kind of 'auto-block' or what not to be enabled - moving away and stuff trying to 'dodge' when you're low on health was a bit troublesome for me.
As for the targeting, I haven't really been able to nail it quite on the head. Before finishing off one guy, it seemingly switched to another and so forth. I was hoping there was some kind of target lock or what not...but other than that, I've been enjoying it so far.

Hey spleen, quick question.
I'm a completionist and all, and I've been trying to find and talk with all of the X-Men at the mansion with Magma. I contacted Forge, took the tours and stuff, chatted with Rogue, Beast, Iceman, Storm...but I can't seem to find Cyclops, Wolverine and Colossus. It won't let me exit the mansion to the grounds and all, and I don't quite know where else to find them. Is this something that can be done later on, and I just go right ahead and start the first mission, or something that has to be done beforehand?

I dont have the game, but gamefaqs.com could probably answer that question for you.

That mission sticks around for a while. You can't find some of the guys and some of the others you can't play with until you find them in missions.
I'd say you're safe to start that first mission.

I've gotten this game and have been enjoying it quite a bit. However, with so many games out I'm only about 10 hours into it so far. However, I've been very happy with my purchase.
I couldn't find some of the X-Men til later in the game. Heck, I finally just was able to find Colossus 10 hours into the game. You should be safe to start that mission.

Went ahead and played through the game. It took awhile, but I finally managed to best Pyro. However, the Flashback mission that I got the opportunity to play (after meeting with Nightcrawler), was very unexpected.
I thought I'd be able to revive some of my team members through the extraction points, but apparently that's not the case during a flashback mission (at least, this one!) :eek:

Yeah, because it's history. :p
There's actually two flashbacks, at least that I've played.
As far as blocks go, certain X-Men get feats that automatically reflect damage.

I think this is the first XBOX game that I've actually "finished". In any case, I apparently didn't get all of the characters...which is a bit confusing for me.
If I recall correctly, there's a total of 15 characters that you can assemble into a team - now, barring the occasional use of Professor X, who exactly is that 15th character? Or is Professor X the 15th?
By the time I finished the game, I had:
* Cyclops
* Storm
* Iceman
* Wolverine
* Colossus
* Jean Grey
* Emma Frost
* Jubilee
* Psylocke
* Magma
* Nightcrawler
* Rogue
* Gambit
* Beast
...but that '15th' slot was still empty. Did I miss something here? Anyone have an idea? If Professor X was indeed the 15th character, I guess I just got a bit confused with that empty slot. :confused:

As far as I know, Professor X is the 15th.

I'm beginning to think that's the case as well, though I still don't see why they would have an extra character slot that remains "empty" if he's only available for use in some missions...
