OT- GUI toolkits

Has anyone ever done much programming to lookaround at cross-platform toolkits? I have limited my choices down to two: wxWindows (http://wxwindows.org) and GTK+ (http://gtk.org). They both seem to be pretty simple. What I am concerned about is which creates more overhead? I have searched on google for information but really could not find what I was looking for. If anyone has any information, please pass it along.

I have a programming friend that swears by GTK+. I haven't personally used it but he said it was the it was the best one out on the market FWIW.
