Just because they have four year degrees, doesn't mean they aren't "stoned slackers." :)

Comedy Central had no statistics on how many people watch "The Daily Show" stoned.
LOL :)
These are the only two remotely political shows I can stand (The Daily Show and The O'Reilly Factor). I don't know what that makes me. Probably just dumb.

Ha, I didn't see Jon Stewart on the O'Reilly factor (Probably because I don't watch the O'Reilly factor) does anyone have link to a place where I could watch it, or someone who did watch it tell me how the interview went?

Daily Show used to be one of my three favorite shows on TV, but i dont' catch it as often as I used to. I will definitely have to watch it when Stewart gets to interview O'Reilly, that should be some fine entertainment.

O'Rielly is an idiot. This should not come as much of a surprise to most. Most people who watch the Daily Show tend to be liberals and most who watch O'Rielly tend to be conservative.
Liberals on average are better educated (more 4 year degrees, graduate degrees, etc.) than conservatives. This shouldn't surprise people that much either.
My turn to use it:

Althoguh HB's statement may seem like pure partisan politics, the statement is basically true. Granted you can probably twist statistics to your own liking but in Harvard Professor James Q. Wilson's American Governement textbook, which we used in my US Government and Politics AP class last year, he has statistics which back up this statement. This does not mean liberals are smarter than conservatives just that overall a larger percentage of people who have earned a college degree consider themselves liberal. People with advanced degrees are even more likely to be liberal. We're just talking education here, not actual intelligence. And for the most part, that appears to be true. I mean most conservatives here on the campus of University of Michigan fault the professors for being too liberal. I have the feeling this is the case at many of the top universities.
This is not meant to be a political statement, just a clarification of HB's statement if I understand him correctly.
My  was more referring to him calling Bill O'Reilly an idiot (and misspelling it twice) as well as the implication in "This shouldn't surprise people that much either." (The implication being everyone knows conservatives are stupid).
This is not meant to be a political statement, just a clarification of my eye-rolling :D

I don't remember specifics, but hasn't Stewart himself made references to his audience between teenage potheads during the show?

While I ageree that college graduates may be more likely to be liberal than conservative, I think that college professors are way more likely to be liberal than conservative. I also think that college tends to institute policies that are more liberal than conservative as compared to other organizations of similar size or structure.
I think that colleges tend to be bastions of liberalism and it might not be suprising that graduates of these left leaning institutions might tend to lean left themselves a little. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I saw part of it (was flipping channels and saw Stewart). O'Rielly refered to his audience as stoned slackers once (that I saw) and Stewart just played along. There wasn't any mean spiritness to it.
Although, there might have been some jealousy in it since The Daily Show's ratings are 4 times higher than his. :)

Random question....if college education (by and large) = $$$, and college education = liberalism, then why is it that conservatives are more often percieved as money grubbing rich bastards?
anyone catch the Bush interview on O'Reilly tonight? He referred to Bill as 'factor'... that made me laugh

simple -
conservatives all inherit their money from rich parents.
liberals have to earn their money the hard way.
(yes, I'm kidding)

Because conservative LEADERS push for corporate tax breaks and tax cuts for the rich. Progressive thinkers usually think that conservatives are "money grubbing rich bastards" because they are against allowing 1-5% of the country to rule over the rest of the equal people.

Ok, so:
conservatives = rule by economically elite (conservatives - aka "money grubbing rich bastards"?)
liberals = rule by intellectually elite (liberals - aka "progressive thinkers"?)

Yeah, I misspelled that idiot's name. My bad. Don't pay attention to him enough to spell it properly. I have also come to realize that I am the anti-Constanza when it comes to last names. You know, George Constanza had that gift where he could hear a last name and spell it perfectly? I lack that gift entirely. I'm horrible. I'm not usually even close... Enough about that.
I also was trying to make it clear that liberals tend to be "better" (see: more) educated than conservatives. I think this is true. But the amount of education does not always equal amount of intelligence. Though your reading was a reasonable interpretation of my post, so I am responsible for that.
As far as conservatives being idiots. Well, that's one excuse. Another is just a lack of compassion or an attempt to understand or sympathize with the plight or difficulties of others (e.g., people not just exactly like you). There is greed too, I guess...

Agreed 100%. Although I might argue that there is a bit something wrong with that. You've got impressionable young kids trying to become adults getting bombarded with liberal views for 4+ years. It's not surprising more of them come out as liberals regardless of how many went in as liberals.

Bombarded is right. I remember my orientaton weekend when I was a Freshman at Michigan (about 12 years ago). It was completely ridiculous. I am (and was then) quite liberal, but I was really annoyed at the lengths some of the orientors (sp?) went to get the "liberal" or "politically correct" view across. I vividly recall one session in a classroom where they would bring up a hypothetical situation (e.g., you come to school and you find out your roommate is gay/a different ethnicity, etc.) and have you sit in an area of the room depending on how "comfortable" you would be with that situation. You had some poor kids from the middle of nowhere who were just being honest about not being comfortable with a certain situation and the orientors (college sophomores and juniors mainly) just berating them for it. It was horrible. It was one of those instances where those folks were so far left they started leaning to the right.

On the topic of the Bush interview, I found it rather dull. O'Reilly said the questions were unscripted, but Bush must have answered the same questions a million times over. There was no originality and O'Reilly just agreed with everything he said. I think they could've changed the name of the show to Softball with Bill O'Reilly (opposite of Hardball, which is pretty softball sometimes).
In all, I think Bush came out as being a very personalble fellow, who is very steady in his thinking and his ways. But he also came across as somebody less willing to compromise and fairly arrogant. O'Reilly asked him about 5 times if he thought the Swift Boat ads were fair, and Bush just kept saying over and over that all 527 ads should've been banned. It was a simple question, but he was fairly unwilling to make a simple concession.
I personally would've liked to hear questions a little more challenging, but I guess there's certain things which are standard and certain things which he wasn't allowed to ask.

If you don't ask the President the softball questions, he doesn't talk to you again (and this is with every Prez, not just Bush).

honestly, Bush has no class at all. Hes brought the presidency to another new low. Oreilly is a hack, he has zero journalistic skills, hes never done a single thing that could honestly warrant a Presidential interview. Of course hes bullhorns the RNC talking points 24/7, so of course thats why he gets the interview, but its just disgusting.
How can a president who touts how hes a uniter not a divider, appear on a guys show whos the very definition of divisive politics?

Colmes has that evil eyebrow. It sometimes just kind of arches on its own, randomly. It really makes it hard to watch that show.

Oh god, that stupid kool-aid referance again. Seriously, what did O'Reilly do (other than being on Foxnews) to warrant getting an interview with the President. Bush probably thought it was "safe" to go on the O'Reilly Factor because O'Reilly wouldn't hit him with hard questions. O'Reilly wouldn't go after him on the war in Iraq because O'Reilly agrees with the war. It's bull. I think it's bull that Kerry went on the Jon Stewart show too, because Stewart is liberal. Kerry and Bush won't face hard questions, Kerry is too afraid of being exposed as a flip-flopper and Bush is too afraid to be exposed as a stubborn right-winger.

I loved hearing Al Franken tell the story of how he called O'Reily out on that.
paraphrased
Franken: You didn't win a Peabody.
O'Reily: Yes I did.
Franken: No you didn't
O'Reily: Well it was like a Peabody.
Franken: No, it really wasn't.
So you're admiting to being a liberal? :D
Like I said before, I voted for Gore in 2000, but now that 4 years have passed, I'm older and smarter.

And that right-wing organization "60 Minutes" absolutely soft-balled him on Sunday, showing that he does have a lot of views that are more Democratic than Republician. He is a right-wing zealot. BURN THE WITCH!!! I don't need facts. If he weighs less than a duck then he must be a witch!
