Jason Schmidt just can not beat the Padres. He just walked the pitcher to load the bases and that was followed by a 2-run single off the bat of Jay Payton.

So far this season Schmidt's numbers vs. the Pads look like this:
<table width="772" border="0" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0"> <tbody><tr bgcolor="#aaaaa4"><td class="SCHEDbold"> <table width="772" border="0" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0"> <tbody><tr bgcolor="#aaaaa4"><td class="SCHEDbold">By Opponent</td><td align="right">ERA</td><td align="right">W</td><td align="right">L</td><td align="right">SV</td><td align="right">SVO</td><td align="right">G</td><td align="right">GS</td><td align="right">CG</td><td align="right">IP</td><td align="right">H</td><td align="right">R</td><td align="right">ER</td><td align="right">HR</td><td align="right">BB</td><td align="right">SO</td><td align="right">AVG</td></tr></tbody> </table> </td><td align="right">

The Giants need to win tonight.
1) Their ace is on the mound (even though Tomko and Lowry have been the hottest pitcher's on the team).
2) the Cubs LOST.
3)With only 5 games after tonight, we cannot afford to not make up ground when we have the chance.

What I can gather, is that we're just happy to be over .500 this season. I know I am.

EDIT: Er, Padres.

By 'we' do you mean the Giants? No, 'we' should definitely not simply be happy to be over .500. 'We' should be tremendously disappointed at not making the playoffs.

No, I meant the Padres. I'm not a fan of the Giants.

Go Pads. But I think they are out of gas and Lawrence has not come through down the stretch, both in SF and in tonight's game. If it can't be the Pads as WC, I'm hoping it would be the Giants. No way in hell I would want the Cubs in the playoffs.

Are we about to see the usual happen here? I don't know how many times Schmidt has lost a win thanks to the bullpen, but I'd bet it ranks up there pretty high in all of MLB.

Schmidt has been the suk in this game- he looked awful. The Giants really need to pull this out.

And we win...tied with the Cubs for the wild card.

Anyone watch the end of the Dodger game? Chacon is the most worthless piece of crap reliever ever. How in the friggin' hell do you blow a 4-0 lead in the ninth inning?

With 4 walks, a double, and a single, Vince! Weren't you watching? :D

Amen, brother...

Dodgers magic # to clinch the wild card is 2, though, so I suspect the Astros and Cubs fans had better root for the Dodgers to win the West. Otherwise, the 2nd place teams in the Central are probably gonna get left at the altar.

Get I get a "Beat S.F."? :D

THANK YOU REDS!!! GO PADS GO!!!

If the Giants lose and the Astros win tonight then the 'Stros are in the WC lead... :)
