Just to finish out the bunch here is any easy one.

Santana but I'm willing to believe Rivera gets a lot of votes.

I can't believe people are voting for Schilling. Did you miss the 2nd half of the season? For the Sox fans this is Pedro in 1999 Part 2.

He might get votes, but with the year these two had he won't win so I didn't include him.

Santana should in easily- best pitcher in baseball this year- but some geniuses will vote for Schilling because he has more wins.

25 year old left hander who is already arguably the best pitcher in baseball. I shiver to think how much money Santana is going to get in free agency. We're enjoying him while we have him in Minnesota.

These polls should really be public - I want to know who the Schilling voters are.

There shouldn't even be a question about this.

just us red sox homers :)

of course Santana will win and should win, but all these polls need a margin for error right?

That was my exact thinking when I saw a NL Cy Young thread pop up.

Well the NL Cy Young is very debatable. Do you go with the guy who pitched the best, or the one with the most wins?

Santana should in easily- best pitcher in baseball this year- but some geniuses will vote for Schilling because he has more wins.

And lets examine why that is. Schilling's last two losses:

5 IP, 10 H, 6 ERs, final score 8-3
7 IP, 7 H, 4 ERs, final score 4-1

And Santana's

8 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, final score 2-0
8 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, final score 2-1

Santana had two excellent starts that he lose because he got next to nothing in the way of run support.

Also, Santana was pulled against the Yankees yesterday after 5 innings with the playoffs looming, the Yankees took the lead in the 7th, something not likely to happen if it's a usual start and Santana is in the game.

There's no way 1 extra win in this situation should top a 2.61 ERA with an opponents batting average of .192.

Santana, no doubt.

Much better ERA, Ks, WHIP and he plays for a playoff team as well.

Not that the last part should be mentioned in a discussion of an award for the best pitcher in the league. Its the not the Most Valuable Pitcher Award.

I think you misunderstood me and I can see how. I meant that I was just wondering whether someone would be silly enough to start an AL Cy Young thread next..after the NL Cy Young thread. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif
