BAGHDAD, Iraq - A string of bombs killed 35 children and wounded scores of others as U.S. troops handed out candy Thursday at a government-sponsored celebration to inaugurate a sewage plant. It was the largest death toll of children in any insurgent attack since the start of the Iraq (news - web sites) conflict.
....
Some of the children, who are near the end of a nationwide school vacation, said they were attracted to the neighborhood celebration by American soldiers handing out candy.
"The Americans called us. They told us: 'Come here, come here,' asking us if we wanted sweets. We went beside them, then a car exploded," said 12-year-old Abdel Rahman Dawoud, lying naked in a hospital bed with shrapnel embedded all over his body.
I'm a sick of how they are reporting this. This is horrible and makes us look like Nazi's. I am not happy about this at all. It's just the wording of it all that pisses me off. It just makes it "appear" like we were setting them up. I could be wrong.

I don't read it that way at all, and I can't really see how this makes us look like 'Nazis'. If anything it makes the terrorists look worse for the method of the attack.

I agree - I think its fairly clear that the Americans were being nice (for a change :D), and that some insurgent thought it was a good way to scare people off.

Wow. For those who know I heard we really went to war because Sadam was going to switch to the Euro and that many other countries would do the same. Meaning econmically we would fail... is this true? Also another thing is we are planning to get North and South America to become like the Euro and Russia and mos of Asia will have their own currency... basically three major forms of money in the world... is true? That being said I am sad to hear this war is ugly and we really dont need it for as advanced as we are why couldnt we make the leaders fight in a ring or something?
what the hell ? where did you hear this- a crack whore ?

I found this very interesting, and not to pick on you Aadik. But Aadik is under no obligation to call the terrorists "insurgents". He doesn't work for Reuters or the Associated Press, but does. This is a perfect example of the media influencing a reader. Actually, the Associate Press is under no obligation to call terrorists "insurgents", but they do as well (It's Reuter's rule, not the AP, btw). Because when it's repeated, over and over again, eventually you believe it to be true. And in this case, using the word "terrorist" appears to make you "Pro-Bush" which is exactly what the media wanted. To create a division, a controversy. The more controversy, the more money they make.
And to be more clear, the use of the word "insurgent" or "militant" to describe people who kill civilians and (in this case children) are terrorists is an attempt to derail popular support of George Bush's War on Terror. Terrorists such as the Zarqarwi network are far more dangerous than the insurgents/militants like Al Sadr to a free and stable Iraq. The media is not allowed to call Zarqarwi what he is anymore. Why? To make money? To make a very clear choice controversial? The people that run Rueters and the Associate Press are very brilliant people. But very dangerous as well.

Oh, I used the word insurgent purposely Dutch .. :D
My point was that at a greater level there are insurgents- though I dont think any of us doubt these peoples specifically are terrorists.
Expounding on the point- Dutch, do you think anyone who opposes the US by fighting anyway they can is a terrorist ? I guess it brings to light whether there are rules of war, so to speak.

It's 9:21 PM and I'm still waiting from the collective moral outrage of the Arab and Islamic worlds.

what the hell ? where did you hear this- a crack whore ?If John Kerry or any other candidate uses this line in a debate, he will get my vote. Would be a nice response from Bush on any reinstating the draft questions.

Once you start targeting civilians, and even more precisely children, you have lost any claim on insurgent and can move straight into the terrorist group. I don't care what your grievances are at that point, I want you dead or in jail.

Im not defending them Bish- Im arguing as a pure devil's advocate. They cannot beat the US in a conventional war (no one can) so they have to fight back any way they can. lets put it this way- I think suicide bombers that target military targets are soldiers (not civilians- military targets)- however idiotic we may perceive them (or any cause) to be.,
