Just saw a screener for this. I liked it. :) I didn't know the story of it or anything going in, so I don't know how accurate it was. I loved the soundtrack too.

I didn't like the really close shots of faces though... and I spotted one thing that didn't make sense football-wise. But only one. :)

Anyone else seen this, or plan to?

And does anyone have some crazy breaking tackles videos of RBs? I remember one of Alstott getting a 2-yard TD and breaking through a shit load of guys. I ask because a friend that saw the movie with me says it's impossible. I know I've seen someone break through multiple crazy tackles....

How was Billt Bob's performancE? From the previews I have seen it looked like Any Given Sunday meets Varsity Blues.

It doesn't seem like he has that big of a role... the speeches, etc. that happen in the movie seem to be delivered by other actors, not him...

I'm definitely going to see it, the book is one of my all-time favorties. I had to keep from rereading the book when I heard the movie was coming out, though. If I had read it again I'm certain I would have noticed numerous inconsistencies that would have pissed me off...

Same here. Read the book a few years ago, and now I'm keeping myself from reading it again. Looking forward to see the movie though...

um, he had just as big a role as the important players.

the biggest thing i was surprised with was how well tim mcgraw can act. his scenes were brutally good.

also, lets just say the last game in the movie has a bit more importance than the last game in the book. easy enough to figure out, without it being a spoiler i think. really doesnt change the story, anyway.

overall, i found the movie to be very good. i read the book a long time ago, so id forgotten most of it, except for a few scenes here and there, and just about everything i remembered was correctly shown in the movie.

by the by, the director of the film turned out to be the writer of the book's second cousin, so he really felt he had a responsibility to be true to his cousin's work, which im sure helped.

I have a video somewhere of Tommie Frazier breaking out of like a 7 man gang tackle v. Florida for a 70 yard TD run...

Billy Bob's lines/scenes weren't as memorable to me as the other actors'. One of them being Tim McGraw. I was surprised by Tim McGraw's acting. That was good.

Is it on VHS or DVD, or on your computer?

There's always Barry Sanders' run against the Bears in Chicago from a few years ago. The play where is wrapped up by about 3 Bears players at around the 25 or so, spins out of the tackle and sprints in for the touchdown.

Sounds like your typical Sanders run, but I'm sure any Bears fan knows the exact run I'm talking about. Every Barry highlight reel has this run in it. I'm sure its not too hard to find.

I have a Joe Washington video...its mostly a make 'em miss one, but there are a few good tackle breakers in there. Problem is its 64 MB. I might be able to find a download site for it though.

no, not even... Had this been a movie about a little known hockey team, it would have been on until Christmas, but no, it's only about football... oh well... I will get it the minute it comes out on DVD, that's for sure...

Bump cause I finally got around to seeing the movie (read the book when I first heard the movie-related publicity, and loved it).

I completely understand how you can take some dramatic license when doing a rendition of a true story, but damn...couldn't they at least used the final play that took place in the book? Sure, the movie ending was more exciting, but it really bothers me that they did this.

I just bought the soundtrack today and Track 5 Home is worth the 12.99 price.

The book is really worth the read just for the following stories:

-Boobie's conflict with his uncle/life after the injury and refusing to deal with it.

-Backstory on an academic issue that almost kicked one of the teams out of the playoff scenario.

-The TREMENDOUS amount of history detailing the town's dependence on oil and how it led to economic booms/busts.

-The racial issues that were much more prevalent in the book than the movie (movie really only addressed it during the final game negotiation)

-SO MUCH MORE character development (the movie just kinda threw all the characters at you real fast. You got a sense of what type of guys Boobie and Winchell were, but thats pretty much it).

One question, concerning the book-to-movie "legalities" I guess is the word to use. When a book is optioned to be a movie, does the screenwriter automatically get the rights to use any name that appeared in the book? Reason being...the Dallas Carter team who appeared in the finals was led by future NFL LB Jessie Armstead (his dominance on the field was talked about in the book at length, and his future success was brought up in the epilogue). Anyway, I found it surprising that they didn't at least have a guy on Carter named Armstead on the field (at least that they didn't show him...I guess its possible his character was there somewhere). Could they have used him? Or did the rights to use actual names in a movie only include Permian, who presumably signed some sort of agreement?

What Todd said! The book is brilliant...

it is a terrific book. but if youre only reading it for the football story, youll be very disappointed.

"Odessa then played the team from XXX. It was a hard fought game heading into the third quarter, but then, town XXX was a hard fought town. Now let me tell you town XXX's history for a chapter. By the way, team XXX lost."

While I think your version is a very large exaggeration (they go into a decent amount of depth about the lesser games), your basic point is correct.

The movie is about a football team set in a town.

The book is about a town that has a football team.

I think that's the simplest way to describe it.

and I bought it because it was in theaters around here for about two weeks, in the original English version. Anybody want to hear Billy Bob Thornton in French? yeah, me neither...

I have not found time to watch it yet though...
