Attempt #2.

The first time I went way overboard. Just too many boxers, too ambitious. Better to try too much and come down to earth than to not do enough. :)

1812 boxers to start. They will be grouped into 360 groups of 5 with 3 groups of 4. The 2 top boxers from each group will advance.

That leaves 726 boxers. They will be grouped into 142 groups of 5 with 4 groups of 4. Again, top 2 advance.

That leaves 292 boxers. Mini-Round: The 72 boxers with the worst records will be randomly paired and fight a best 2 out of 3 series (or First To 2 if draws occur). This will cut it down to 256 boxers. Then, the top 64 boxers will get seeded, and the rest randomly placed to fight out in single elimination tournament. In the event of a draw, the two will fight a best 2 out of 3 (or First To 2 in case of more draws) to figure out who advances.

So we begin....again.
