I have been humming the Sound of Silence for the past few days. That's not an entirely *bad* thing, but it gets a little annoying after a while. Especially since I don't know all the friggin words.
Next time FOFC has a special occasion that warrants a song, write it to the tune of "Allentown" to bug the bejeezus out of QuikSand. You know, "and we're posting here at F-O-F-C" has a nice ring to it.
Lastly, I'd like to request that WSUCougar's title be changed to FOFC Lyricist, FOFC Poet, or FOFC Songwriter.

That we can help with:
Hello darkness, my old friend. I've come to talk with you again.
Because a vision softly creeping left its seeds while I was sleeping
and the vision that was planted in my brain still remains within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone, narrow streets of cobblestone
‘neath the halo of a street lamp, I turned my collar to the cold and damp
when my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
that split the night and touched the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking, people hearing without listening.
People writing songs that voices never shared, no one dared disturb the sound of silence.
"Fools," said I, "you do not know, silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you, take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell and echoed in the wells of silence.
And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made
and the sign flashed out its warning in the words that it was forming.
And the sign said "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
and tenement halls and whispered in the sound of silence."
(I started to just type them in, got stuck early on a bit I thought I remembered, so I grabbed them from http://www.geocities.com/WileyMike/6Sounds.html).

I think a song to the tune of the Pianoman would be nice...

Yes, one honoring QuikSand would be quite amusing.

Gee, thanks gstelmack...
for posting the words to The Sound of Silence. Now, I've gone from humming in my head to singing along as I read the lyrics you posted. My boss is not amused.
Gee, thanks Franklinnoble...
Now I'm singing Pianoman to the tune of The Sound of Silence. Just great.

I'm afraid this thread (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?t=25270) already qualifies for the Billy Joel entry.
I'm not really in the mood for a melody.
So now we know that Desnudo is not actually Robert Plant.

You're the one who said it was "especially" annoying since you didn't know the words. I just tried to get rid of the "especially" part for you :D

You have succeded, so I thank you. It is no longer especially annoying since I don't know the words. It has moved to insanely annoying because I DO know the words now.;)

Ah yes. I remember now. I'm sure QS will be happy I prompted you to post the link.
I have a great idea. For QuikSand's birthday we should each PM him a Happy Birthday wish and paste in a Billy Joel verse as his present. I'm sure he'd love that.

Alright... it's not "Cougar-worthy," but it's a slow Friday around here...
Sing to the tune of Billy Joel's "Piano Man":
It’s nine a.m. on a Monday
The f’ing elitists log in
There’s JeeberD posting rapidly
In every new thread within
He says, “UTEP football is the greatest
At least until coach Mike Price goes
But the Cowboys suck, and Vinny’s a schmuck
But at least we still have Bill Parcells”
La la la, de dola
La la, de de da da dum
Chorus:
Post a new thread, you’re a football fan
Post a new thread today
Well we’re all in the mood for some comedy
And you’ve got something to say
Now John’s in Iowa, he’s a friend of mine
He likes the patriotic undies
He gives legal advice, thinks liberals are nice
And quotes from the Big Lebowski
He says “Franklin’s a troll and a homophobe.”
And everyone else might agree
“I’d probably ban him forever
If I were the H.N.I.C.”
Oh, la la la, de dola
La la, de de da da dum
Now Cam is an NRA mouthpiece
Without any hair on his head
And he’s reading The Afoci’s post about pork pies
Oh, why did he click on that thread?
And Fritz is posting a parody
As Kodos whores for EA
Then Sov posts a photo of his ex-girlfriend
Quick, go get it, before Ben takes it away
Chorus:
Post a new thread, you’re a football fan
Post a new thread today
Well we’re all in the mood for some comedy
And you’ve got something to say
It’s a pretty slow day for a weekday
No political posts to attack
What we really need back is the QOTM
Or to reinstate HornsManiac
Now go put on your robe and your wizard hat
And pick up your squid and your trout
We need our next text sim, someone should go and ping Jim
So he’ll tell us when his new game comes out.
Oh, la la la, de dola
La la, de de da da dum
Chorus:
Post a new thread, you’re a football fan
Post a new thread today
Well we’re all in the mood for some comedy
And you’ve got something to say

You know that line is a crossover wonder because it's part of Piano Man too. "Because we're all in the mood for a melody and you've got us feeling all right."
Truth be known, I prefer Robert Plant. Big Log baby!

What you really need is a cover of Sound of Silence in Gregorian Chant.
It's the shit, I'm telling you.
(I would link the mp3 here, and I'm fairly certain it's public domain, but I don't know for sure, and well, we don't wanna open up THAT can of worms on the board.)
