Sigh. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif This is still the single biggest thing the NFL does to piss me off. It really sucks that a substantial part of the population will have no chance to gladly pay up the wazoo to watch the NFL games they'd like to see. I actually do have the opportunity to get a dish now at my house, but as a former apartment dweller, I feel their pain. Obviously, the NFL believes it makes good business sense, but I have a hard time believing the additional revenue source that cable provides wouldn't be able to beat that, and overcome any losses in the network packages.

Greg Easterbrook wrote an interesting article about that in his Tuesday Morning QB column basically arguing that the original agreement violates federal anti-trust laws. A little tongue-in-cheek I think, but it doesn't make sense to let Canadians get it through cable and US residents have to buy a satellite.
What really puzzles me is why Comcast didn't shell out some serious dough to get the package on cable. They would have made a killing and surely they have more cash than Direct-TV.

If the NFL wanted multiple carriers getting into the NFL Sunday Ticket, they would have already let them in the door. The fact it has not happened proves they aren't really that interested, or cable companies simply aren't willing to bid high enough.
More people could put in a DirecTV system than you think. Many simply do not want to bother, or aren't willing to choose an apartment/townhouse/etc that would make it easier to do so. I had two apartments where I could have done it, if I had really wanted to. It was a no-brainer when we moved into our house over three years ago. Any apartment or townhouse complex I have been through over the past couple of years has revealed DirecTV and Dish Network dishes all over the place.

I have Directv and usually buy the sunday ticket package every year. It's more than worth it IMO. And it's not very expensive here in Brasil either, something like $US30 for the whole season. Didin't bought it this year though (no time to watch tv) but I should get it next year. That separate Red Zone" channel sounds interesting...

While the Red Zone channel sounds like a good idea, I would much rather see LaDanian Tomlinson run for a 99 yard TD score than see Emmitt Smith run 3 times in the Red Zone to score.
I have the Sunday Ticket (gotten it every year since 2001), and it's great. I only have two complaints:
#1: I have a cable modem, so I have to pay for DirecTV and basic cable....DSL is not available in our area, and I refuse to go through AOL again.
#2: All the games aren't shown on the Sunday Ticket. If they're on regular cable, they won't be shown in your area. This forces me to switch from my satellite box (Input #2) to regular TV. It gets to be a pain, because I'm lazy and I just want to switch channels. Week #1 wasn't bad, but now it's pretty annoying.

I won't go satellite just for Sunday Ticket, but it seems the NFL knows that and isn't worried about it. I'm sure they've studied it, and know what they are doing.

How do you get DTV in Brazil?? Don't you have to live in the US?
