Way to go Detroit fans no class.

Schmidty

Yes. NONE of us have class because a few morons (out of 23,000) acted like jackasses.

It's amazing how much garbage is being dumped on us, when the vast, vast majority of us would NEVER do something as asinine as throw stuff at another human. I submit to you that this could have happened in ANY other city, because I think the ratio of idiots is pretty much equal throughout the country.

The_herd

Philly fans are stereotyped the same way. The garbage being dumped was earned by those that acted like assholes last night and the rest of the fans in Detroit are going to have to live with the actions of the minority.

Over-generalization. The Palace was one of the best arena in sports last year. It was an amazing atmospher. Completely awesome. Also, during the city's four last major championships (Wings 3 Cups and last year's Pistons championship) there were no riots, no trouble at all. It was a major lovefest really. Detroit showed the world how to win like a champion and celebrate like one. The same cannot be said for the likes of Denver, Boston, etc, etc.

A handful of morons does not make the fans classless. What those idiots did was inexcusable and embarassing, but is not indicative of "Detroit fans" in any way.

Apparantly, since this guy directly called Detroit fans out.

While it's still a small minority, the tapes show far more than a single handful taking part. Looks to me like at least 2 dozen or so. It was probably about a handful behind the bench, then another handful on the court, then several handfuls along the Pacers exit area.

Out of what? 20,000+ It's a substantial minority. The handful started it, once the players forayed into the stands it all went wonky. The fans should have never been on the court. It was a complete meltdown. Chaos. It's still not indicative of Detroit fans in general. They can be annoying as fuck (trust me, I was born and raised there. Lived there for 27 years), as any fanbase can be, but it's not the way they are in general.

Aside from your first sentence, I agree with you.

About that first sentence, however, why did you choose to read the original post that way? He didn't say that NONE of the Detroit fans have class. He could've been directly referring to the ones who were throwing things at Indiana players. Now, I don't know whether he did or not, but what's the point of taking these generalizations personally? Evidently, you know that they don't apply to you. Are you trying to prove it to the rest of us?

I'm not trying to pick a fight, and I do feel that the original post wasn't necessary when there's already a thread about this, but isn't your response coming deathly close to "feeding the troll"?

It would be nice to see Detroit fans step up here. The dumbass fans that played a major role in last nights incident should have their pictures posted all over TV in the Detroit area and they should be heckled relentlessly at any sporting event they attempt to go to in the future.

So you defend Detroit out of one side of your mouth and condemn Boston and Denver out of the other side of your mouth. Come on. Every city has its share of idiots. Unfortunately for the city of Detroit, theirs were on display last night.

And just to try and keep this on a light note... This never would have happened at the Staples Center in LA. Beer is much to expensive to throw.

That's a point that was made last night during some of the ESPN commentary -- Detroit just replaced Philly as the poster child for asshole fans.

And that isn't exactly an easy group to surpass, they have years of tradition on their side ;)

Well fuck you very much too. Although I strongly agree with them (and for some reason you've spent last night & now today hell bent to prove the point), the observation wasn't mine originally, I was paraphrasing what a number of talking heads said last night.

It isn't my fault you're choosing to associate yourselves with the worst behaved group in U.S. sports history. But from what we've seen from you since last night, you fit right in with 'em - a classless jackass who can't handle the truth on or off the court.

Apologize all you want, but at this point, it's wearing pretty damned thin. With the repeat performance, I honestly don't believe you're sorry about anything except being exposed. The best thing you can do right now is STFU, but I'd just about guarandamntee you won't have the good sense to do that.

See ... you're as predictable as the shit we saw on TV last night.
You're exactly like those fans last night, you can't stand reality -- the Pistons got their asses kicked on the floor & they turned into whiny little bitches. Their fans couldn't take it, and they turned into whiny little bitches. You don't have everybody kissing your ass here, and you turn into a whiny little bitch. Like I said, they're the new poster children, and apparently you're determined to become our local version.

So have at it, you're doing a great job.

Dola.

If you actually look at what I've posted in the past, I have said that the people that did those things are total losers and deserve jail. I have also said that I, nor anyone that I associate myself with would ever do something as idiotic.

I have also said that I am a Piston fan. You have continuously insulted Pistons fans, and I'm sick of it. If you had simply said that the morons that did what they did are the scum of the Earth, I would have agreed; however, you have continually taken pot-shots at the entire fan-base and city of Detroit. I'm certainly not going to allow you to that without saying something.

Keep insulting me and keep egging me on.

I have also said that I am a Piston fan. You have continuously insulted Pistons fans, and I'm sick of it.

Jesus H. Christ, you've started to hallucinate. I doubt I've ever said two words about Detroit fans until last night's incident. "Continuously"? Good Lord man, they're the fucking centerpiece of the entire topic. How in the blue hell is somebody supposed to talk about it without covering them in the process.

No, I don't buy the whole argument about "it was just some of them", and I can tell you very specifically why -- unless an atmosphere of acceptance existed, unless such behavior was believed to have gotten the support of the crowd (not just last night, but in general), none of it would have happened.

If there was an enviroment, an atmosphere, that discouraged such behavior (through active means, or through "peer pressure" whether direct or subtle)
it would ... not ... have ... happened. Those who provoked the incident did so because they were confident that enough of the 15k "had their backs" --
a combination of beer courage & mob courage.

They didn't do it because they were drunken idiots, they did it because they were secure in their belief that they were surrounded by people who would support their actions, and defend them no matter what.

See, it's not a conspiracy, it's not just random pick on Schmidty day, or pick on Detroit day -- it's an evaluation of a group based upon their actions. Or in your case, based upon your reaction.

Since 1984, how many incidents can you tell me of that would paint ALL Detroit fans as classless idiots?

There was last night, I will accept that and won't defend it.

But when else?

Michigan States riots? That shouldn't go against Detroit, had nothing to do with Detroit.

Were their riots post Pistons win last year? Nope. Did anyone die? Nope.
Were their riots post Red Sox ALCS? Yes. Did someone die? Yes.

Were there riots post Red Wings cups? The first, and not much of one, yes.
Did any one die after said cups? nope.

And hell, the Lions and Tigers haven't won a lick, so rioting has been out of the question.

I can tell you from personal experiences that Cleveland fans are the worst I've ever encountered. Throwing batteries on the field at baseball games, throwing beer bottles at the field during NFL games.

Yet, because of stuff that happened twenty years ago, Detroit now are the worst fans ever?

Sounds like a great argument to me.

as a former resident of Detroit I have witnessed especially appalling behavior from Detroit fans (especially the red wings). I seem to remember stories of fans going out and flipping over cars in "celebration" of getting the Stanely Cup.
Heck one even appeared on a radio show on a morning afterwards, with absoltely no remorse for flipping over peoples' cars. The host was threatening to call the cops on him.

that one dude who stood in front of artest to get jacked was being interviewed..

they even went as far to show his name.. you know he'll be getting arrested for criminal trespass :)

Honestly, i don't think all detroit fans are this bad.. but they are gonna pick up the same rep philly fans(aka battery chuckers) have..

The worst fans as far as rioting goes is probably.. ohio state.. they practically turned columbus into a war zone after winning a football national title..

I just wish Detroit didn't get a black eye over this when the city has NOTHING to do with what went on. THe Pistons have not, to the best of my knowledge even played a game in Detroit since '88 or '89 when the roof of the Silverdump came down in a snowstorm and they were forced to play in Cobo. Because the Pistons continue to use the name "Detroit" Detroit looks bad with this and Auborn Hills continues to rake in the cash while looking fine.

Teams should only be allowed to use the name of a placve they actually play in. The Dallas Cowboys don't play in Dallas. The New York Giants/Jets play in Jersey... It ain't right!
