Just a reminder that we take to the high seas and rape, pillage, plunder, and pilfer our weasly black guts out tomorrow! Whoo!
('Course, I gotta drive about 45 minutes to get a copy of the damn game. Freakin' nowhere towns.)

I haven't really followed this one much. Any rundown on what the game actually is?

I am still worried about this game. Anything with a 'dancnig' mini-game makes me stat to think sellout. I so badly want this game to be like the original that I hope my expectations aren't too high. I would love to see a great sequel to Pirates, Autoduel and Starflight.
What you need is a good sailor. I'll let you know when I find one.

I was going to go buy it separately and return the copy she got me after Christmas. There could be collateral damage if I just take it.

Fixed that for you.

If you get the limited edition, the original game will be on the disc, in case the new one doesn't suit you too well. ;)

Autoduel. One of, if not my favorite game ever. Alas, I don't think we'll ever see a sequel unless it's, well, simply another arcade race/combat game. :(
I'm really waiting for this game, what a good amount of hours spent on the original one. My only worries are the dancing minigames and that your pirate ages so fast, it's said that the game ends in 10 hours or so and you need to start with another pirate.

Autoduel was the very first game I played on my very first PC. As a result, I have very fond memories of it, and it is one of my favorite games as well.

I was trying to think what was the first game I had on my very first PC and while I can't be certain, I'm pretty sure it was Pirates, oddly enough.
I know I had and loved Pirates on the C64 and I can remember buying it right away when I got my xerox. I bought it again when I upgraded to my fancy new IBM PS2 model 50 because I needed a 3.5 inch drive and no one I knew had both drives so I could just make a transfer. :) Times have changed slightly since then.
So, I had three copies of the darned game and could still never find a map when I needed one. I had no trouble with lost manuals though and in fact I still have two of them but no disk or map alas. :)

What's in the special edition that is different or extra that makes it worth getting?
Pre-ordred the DVD so I could get the old game as well. First review shows promise. I felt that dancing added to the game. Another way (optional) to add to your career.

What's the synopsis of the review (for those of us at work)?

Closing Comments
The original Pirates! came in at number 3 in our list of the best PC games of all time and while this new version isn't as revolutionary as the original, the fact that there have been almost no imitators in the fifteen years since the first Pirates! make this remake a sure bet for fans of great games.
There are a lot of great games for the PC this year, particularly for fans of shooters and strategy games. Don't let those distract you from also trying Pirates!. It may not be as technically innovative as titles like Half-Life 2 or Rome: Total War but the combination of ideas and experiences it contains easily make it one of the most original games of the year. It may not depart much from the original game but, truthfully, it simply doesn't need to.
Pirates! is unlike any other game in the current PC catalog. Unless you hate fun, you'll love it.
Score 9.2
Reader Score 8.5 right now

Ack, I hadn't heard about the agin in the game, let alone the super fast kind.
Hope there's a way to shut that off, I imagine there would be. Dunno anything about the mini-games either. I've really been trying read as little as possible on it.
Can't wait though, probably going to try and hunt it down this afternoon.

I've been checking out the impressions from the GameFAQs boards about this. So far, they seem to rate it as being above average and all. Still a bit too early to tell, I guess.

Other than the 120 disks it should be a blast on the C64.
