MJ4H

OK I looked at how things will work in multiplayer (from what I see, extremely simple!).

I am down for being commissioner. Here's what else we will need:

Web space to host the association file and team files
Someone to make and maintain a home page/forum
Those of you who said you were in, tell me what you want your team name to be.
Decide on finances (geography based or equal finances).

Thoughts?

vex
11-26-2004, 10:59 PM
I call the Tulsa Drillers.

Equal finances I think, but I can be easily swayed on this.

What do we want on finances if we go this way? High, low, mid-level?

Are we going to go with a full league size and wait for it to fill?

Roster size? 50,55, or 60?

I'm sure we'll want the injuries, CPU trades, full minor league roster and schedule as well as expansion.

162 game season I guess? Doesn't seem to be way around this if you play a full league.

No DH, DH for 1 league or both?

GoldenEagle

We could use the old site I had, www.thefdba.com. I will have tto check with Primal to see if we can still use it.

Guys shareware release 5 will add some fun stuff for multiplayer leagues

Check out this thread (http://p089.ezboard.com/fpuresimbaseballfrm21.showMessage?topicID=53.topic)

Next I'm adding integrated draft profiles and other stuff to make it all as seamless as possible.

MJ4H

What I would like to do is have a 12 team league, probably 3 divisions of 4 teams each. 50 man rosters, allow expansion, and a full 162 game season.

I suggest no DH. Would we want to do the initial draft or just let the computer fill our teams in to start? If we can get everyone to grab a team, we can get moving on this thing.

(I do have commissioning experience, by the way: I was the commissioner of the Internet Hockey League, using Andy Dolphin hockey back in college -- imo it was the best Dolphin league going at the time and still better than the nonsense he has going now by far).

MJ4H

Groovy Shaun! I cant wait.

Will these types of updates be backwards compatible? Say we start with version 3 (hypothetically) will our league be compatible with version 5 or how would that work?

DaddyTorgo
11-27-2004, 12:11 AM
I'm all for letting the computer fill out all of our teams for us. That in a sense...levels the playing field, creating randomness. That way some people may want to sit pat and others may want to deal, but everyone will have an initial "shakedown cruise" with their team. Should make it very interesting.

Oh yeah, and I'd like the Los Gatos Wildcats if you please.

SirFozzie

We atleast need an even number of divisions for playoff purposes.

Web space to host the association file and team files

You don't need much space. Test your FTP site with some people before you get too involved. The updated league file and team files aren't large. The way that the game updates right in Puresim instead of downloading and unzipping a league file is a 100% improvement on OOTP/FOF/ect.

I was thinking at least 4 of 4. Personally, I'd like to have a full league because playing 162 games against 12-16 teams could get pretty old I would think. That being said, I'm up for 12,16, whatever, I just want to play:)

Well based on the replies to this thread, I don't think we will have enough people for a full league, but if we enable expansion, we can always get bigger. I don't think we will have enough for 16 either.

OK I've got release 5. Im going to go ahead and get this league started. Ill donate the web space unless something weird goes wrong. Im going to put in the teams we have so far and just use random teams for the rest. Hopefully we can fill it up with humans. Im going to go ahead and set it for 1 League, 3 four team divisions with expansion possible. I will let you guys know the location of the league file so you can download it and we will get started. More info to come.

I had to change Los Gatos to San Francisco-San Jose (there are only certain cities you can choose). Vince I think I would run into the same problem with your choice. What larger city is that near or would you like to make another choice?

BTW Shaun, what's the procedure for the others getting the multiplayer assoc. file? Do I send them a file to start or do they download the xml file that gets put in my web space? (I understand that the future transactions are handled via the program, I just mean to get started).

I vote for purely fictional players, though I think that was a settled issue.

I'm also in favor of 50 man rosters, actually 50+ would be fine with me.

The initial draft would have to be a set parameters, and let the computer do it's thing.

The 162 game season would be a must. As for the associaton structure, I am open to pretty much any structure, though admit I am fond of wild cards.

I also say No DH.

One question I do have, is what sort of schedule will we use to play games. Will we sim a week, two weeks, a month at a time?

I don't think I've ever had a pitcher with a 97 Velocity before. It will be interesting to see how he does. I'm actually pretty happy with my whole staff, seeing as the computer considers Tallman my fourth starter.

All of my starters had a great Spring Training. That can't be said about my closer, Peter "Jello" Paulin. He had a Spring ERA of 8.35 over 25 innings. Offensively we didn't clear the basepaths very often, so we need to Balco up a bit. Chris Brundridge was an exception batting .385 with 6 doubles and 5 dingers(as many as the whole rest of the roster).

I noticed that Fresno is listed as Trois on the PSPN page. I matched the salary numbers to identify the team. Is this the "region" issue that TekNeek mentioned above?

Also, with the game checking for an association update when I load the association, does that mean it will recognize that a new PSA file exists and download, and install it at that time? I ask because I'm on a 56k modem at home, and it might not always be convenient for me to download a 10 MB file.

Oh and I also found the draft report for the initial draft. Los Angeles selected first, and drafted Clyde Whitney, a 25 YO pitcher with 100 stuff. Also Daddy Torgo, Thompson and Ingram were the 12th and 13th players taken in the draft. The draft Order is an option in the pull-downs from the Transaction(Deals and Moves) screen.

okay. locked and loaded and ready to go. Can't find the "trading block" feature though. All I see is something in the PSPN corner that's like "rumormongers are confident no one is on the trading block."

Yeah, the PSPN corner is where it's supposed to show up. Maybe get out and load again?

alright. i was wondering if there was another place it'd show up. I'll try quitting and reloading.

edit: still not there. guessing it just hasn't been updated.

Got me then. MJ4H said he uploaded it and could see them. Can someone else chime in?

My region is listed as Pine Bluff. Is there not an Atlanta one? Is this something I can manage for myself?
Ditto here. Please move the Wichita team to Wichita (KS). I am kind of afraid of those crazy Cajuns.

And, when can we submit our Park Dimensions & Name?
